Reminds me of the time someone said that they looked forward to me entering the family.

I said, "All of them? Damn. That's a lot of people."

Fortunately, she was older, didn't hear so well, and I was drunk. No one over heard. It could have been a lot worse.

You should celebrate Beltane then.. Another celtic festival on 30th April. There is a huge fire festival in Edinbhrgh every year with the Green Man.

Thanks you, inspirational, plot nailed. Now I only have to find the time to write it.

Do check out my latest story: Emma's Examinations

And my other stories, including 5 EPs, 24 RR's, and 15 competition top 10's including my pride competition winner: On Oxford Street, This Gay Girl Found Pride While Playing With Balls

Sounds like like fun. All though I don't seem to do very well in comps, already had an idea run through my brain now to see if I can get it to paper and win something.

My true identity is revealed. Maybe we'll celebrate Beltane next spring.

You bet. My hope has been pretty eternal for years now. I've entered the competitions here twenty-seven times. I was lucky enough to make honorable mention eleven times. Darned good average. Just keep plugging away and maybe the podium will happen along someday.

For now, gotta get on the present contest. Ideas? Where are you?
Got a concept, but fitting it into the word limit and finding the time to write it is a problem, as usual.

Good Will ---|--- Three Alarm <= Both almost famous, give them a read and get them one step closer!

I have a story almost completed that would be perfect. I just have to find a way to get it under 5000 words...
Damn, at six I'd be golden. It is a real bitch to shave off that much.

At least I have plenty of time to figure it out.

The Wild Girl anthology need not be read in any order but does take place in the following timeframe

Wild at Heart- 1968. The story of Dani’s Great Aunt Evie.

Wild Oats. Part 1&2. -2021. Dani is 16 and sets her sights on her stepfather.

https://www.lushstories.com/stories/taboo/wild-oats-part-2

Wild Child. 2025. Dani is now 20 years old.

talking to Nicky about changing the word count to 4k for anyone who's won comps in the past. figure it'd be a fun challenge for them.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

Ah, but placing isn't winning... Exactly

Maybe time isn't going to be a factor after all. I'm already writing the main culmination, with only a little closer that follows that.

At 3400 words already, staying in the limit is still going to be a problem.

Later: Or maybe not. First draft clocked in at a little over 4200 words, leaving me 700 some-odd to play with when I give it a read after working on something else to get it out of my head. I'm thinking I can add a little more imagery to one scene, which is the "horror" part of it, and perhaps tweak a few more weird details out of the sex.

Twelve hours from concept to first draft. It's so nice when that happens.

My entry's submitted and awaiting approval. If you like old-school Hammer Horror movies, you should enjoy it.

I don't usually read anyone else's entry before I've completed mine (If I ever do finish the one I'm toying with for this comp).

But Damn you, Annie, reading your story is a must for me. I put my lifelong sexual obsession with lesbian action down to viewing Hammer's The Vampire Lovers at our local fleapit at far too tender an age. I should not legally have been in there, but let's put like this: if you shaved at least once a week, it was good enough for the proprietors of small picture houses back then. The film blew my adolescent tiny mind. Women with women had never crossed my mind. It was a revelation, a numinous moment.

I'll wait until it's dark, pour a glass of Jameson's, dig out my Ipad, and settle down in front of the log burner with your story.

Don't mind me, just getting people in the mood

Nooooo.... I usually struggle to write MORE than Flash but for this comp, my scribbled story outline alone has come in at over 2k. I’m going to be knocking at the door of 5k if I actually finish this one
It seems like I'm again in danger of violating one of the rules,

Is horror not allowed in Horrorween stories?

In my story (not that I invented the idea), I wake to find a ghost having sex with me. That's prima facie , whether I resist or surrender and whether I end up being happy or upset by it. The rules preclude it whether it is a real ghost or a dream of a ghost.

Does it make any difference that the story resolves in a positive and romantic way that caused the characters to reinterpret the events?

I don't want to get banned for submitting a story that might be objectionable.

I'm sure it would be fine if all parties ended up with a smile on their faces.

This was my immediate reaction.
I've got about 50K words of a story I started about 10 years ago that the start revolves around Beltane.

My entry for the competition is nearly ready, but it's a total change in my style, no dialogue and all 3rd person. yikes! (ETA - failed... It's 3rd person, but I could not live without my precious dialogue )
Good luck to everyone that enters and thanks to Nicola for putting these on.

Halloween is nearly upon us. It's in the wind ...

fyi, if your story does not fall under the horror or supernatural category please don't tick off the competition button. much as romantic story lines scare me, pretty sure they're not really horror. smile
