I want my votes restored! I think we all do!

Angel said I should say "pretty please." So here is a big PLEASE! PLEASE WITH A MUG OF BEER!

I think you may have misunderstood. The information doesn't exist. It can't be restored. It's not that Gav hasn't or won't do it, it's not possible.

The information existed in v1 as - a number of member votes with scores, a number of anonymous votes with no scores, a temporary total and a temporary average score.

The anonymous votes have disappeared in the transfer because they had no scores attached. When you get a new vote, the temporary total and scores are recalculated from the remaining data, which only includes member votes from before the switch and any votes after the switch.

I'm sure Gav will put me right if I'm explaining this wrong.

Sorry everyone. I've lost votes too, but they are gone.
I believe you that the votes cannot be retrieved and restored but the votes had to include scores (each vote only registers at 1 to 5) because the loss off votes changed the scores in some cases quite a lot.

Nothing can be done but it is still a very bad bummer!

Since the upgrade I'm missing quite a few votes that seriously dropped some of my scores. That sucks!!!!

It indeed does.

That I can't answer. Maybe Gav can shed some light as to how it worked out the average with no scores in the database, lol. I'm voting for magic.

Bummer indeed.
Maybe Gav will have an idea of how to protect our stories that yet have not had their votes decimated.

MOW, you have a in-depth understanding of the code, fancy a job?

So Lush V1 recorded the scores real-time, simple accumulating a tally of 1 - 5. The recording of anonymous votes was simply a way to block the same surfer from scoring a story multiple times. This worked fine in the relational database world.

In Lush V2, we now have a document storage model (not an RDBMS). The member and anonymous votes are stored in a document along with all the other attributes of a story (think of a spreadsheet containing all the fields to a story). When a new score is recorded, it would be too costly to pull back the entire document, add one vote then save this back to the database. So, instead, I simply send the score to the database to append the score to the existing document. I then flag this story as stale (the score needs recalculating). So the next time the story is retrieved from the database, it will recalculate the score before presenting the story to the user.

I'm sorry about this, there is no way for me to recreate these anonymous scores from V1. Would people prefer to leave this as-is, or for me to generate a random score, 1-5 for these missing votes?

I'm confused...are you telling me that I might be losing like half my votes or something from the last two years?

Just asking...not really sure I want to know the answer to this one...

Naw man...you're just losing all those anonymous votes you, yourself, posted over the last two years...on all your stories.
The same GQP demanding we move on from January 6th, 2021 is still doing audits of the November 3rd, 2020 election.

Na, I just live with a code monkey, so I've gotten quite good at translating geekspeak into laymans.

Or was that a sarcastic dig to stop trying to explain what I don't understand
Thanks for explaining it MoW, even I can understand what happened now.

It's very unfortunate, but those anonymous votes have all been lost. They are irretrievable. It is the same for everyone.

Gav - I take it you were joking. You can't assign a 4 or a 5 to all the missing votes! lol

Damn, you mean I'm going to lose all those votes I gave myself and the ones I conned my mother into giving me?

Don't tell me that...my average will drop to about 3.14 or so...

You're going to drive me to drink Jeff, don't tell me that...

OK, first off...I admit I'm not always the sharpest shed around the tool, and I'll never be a rocket surgeon...but, for the life of me, I cannot comprehend how a vote cannot have a score attached to it...that is something I don't think I'll ever comprehend, and I'm not going to try to strain my few remaining brain cells to try to figure that one out...

From what I gather from this whole conversation here is that a lot of people have lost a bunch of votes that were non-member anonymous type votes...I have to admit, because of the number of stories I have which is somewhat more than a big bunch, combined with my limited mental capacity, I really don't have much in the way of a clue as to the actual number of votes on most of my stories...I do however have a fairly general idea of my overall average on this site and the other fine English language sister site...

For instance, I have a poem over on Sister Stories with over 100 votes...that seems to be unchanged from what I can see...I happen to know for a factoid that most of those votes could not be by members, since it would mean that about a third of the total members would have voted on that one poem...not possible, take my word on that one...

From the looks of things, it would seem that all those votes are still there...last check it had 117 votes...I think it went up at least one since the big V2 upgrade...

Basically, what I be looking to figure out here...did I come out unscathed out of this mess? Or, is there some big surprise yet to come for me?

Or, did a third of the members of Sisters Space actually vote on my poem?

I'm just trying to get a clue as to what is going on...might be first, go easy on me here...

They will all be member votes Alan, plus votes from surfers over the last fortnight or so you guys have been running on Mongo.

Gav has categorically stated that all anon votes have gone. It is a common code base used for all 3 sites, everything is programmed the same.

Otay Nic...I still don't have a clue as to what is going on...but, I guess that's why I'm a porn writer and not a programmer...

I've just been told my blog posts have been showing up as unreadable code...I've seen this mentioned before, but was not aware it was a widespread issue...

Just adding to the big "To-Do" list...I'll try not to let it happen again...

Just noticed I'm having the same problem with this.

My blog post looked fine on my profile while I was logged in but then I changed one of my privacy settings and wanted to check how things looked from the outside. When I logged out and then went to my profile I just saw a big block of code.

I'll leave it up for the time being in case it helps with figuring out the cause.
This may not be a bug, it may just be someone's way of saying I'm not welcome here.

My latest story was on the Story Picks for October list but has gone. It still has a score higher than most of the stories on there even after several scores had been lost in the transfer.

It still appears in the right place in the Most Popular/Last Month list.

Not sure I've seen this one mentioned before:

I have a private album and I received some comments on the photos within. However, when I click on the link in the notification email or the link in the black box pop up, I get a 404 error.
This was probably already asked and answered and I just missed it somewhere but are the birthday listings at the bottom of the Forum going to return? I am just curious.

I'm changing your member name to Bugz

The birthdays listing is a known bug. Gav is working through the entire list, based on priority. The core of the site works perfectly (thankfully).

Hi Nicola!!!
Sounds like Gav has his work cut out for him on that one!

Nicola, I can see that you are right but I promise that my report was accurate at the time. I left it for several hours before posting in case it was a temporary glitch but obviously I didn't leave it long enough.

I think it might have been a site cache issue. When I looked, I'm sure it wasn't there either, and sent a message to Gav.

By the time he responded, you were in the top 10. It's very tight at the top, many of the stories have a perfect 5, so a 4.96 might not be enough.

Glad you're where you should be!

I'm having this issue as well. Also, another minor issue, when I receive a notification and click on it that someone has posted on my profile page it actually takes me to their profile page. The notification says something like Peskyscottishwoman69 has made a comment on your profile. Like I said, when I click on that profile link I go to their page when I know it used to take me directly to my page before the upgrade. Again, minor, but I thought I would point it out.

Damn those blasted, pesky, Scottish women!!!

(rofl)
I'm not sure if this is a v2 problem or a general problem. When I moved a picture from my image gallery to a photo album, I lost all the comments on it

Still having a problem with my deleted blogs showing on my offline profile - not good when you drunk ramble and regret it in the morning LOL

Don't you know that drinking and blogging don't mix? Btw, I just have to ask....when you drink, do you actually go out to a bar? Or do you, um..."brown bag it?"

Just had to ask...

No amount of alcohol would even make me look half way decent to go out to bar, so yeah, I have to bag it. Now you have made me depressed, so looks like I am going to have to bag it again tonight
golly... only FIVE pages of "problems"..?..

should all be simple enough, eh?

i kinda skimmed through to see if anyone else noticed this, but i guess i'm the only true perv on here that scopes people's pics...

on some galleries and albums, you get an ERROR PAGE when you click specific pics. not always, but on a lot of albums i've tried to uhhh... further admire.
