Would it be possible to add options in the profile description of "Sex:" ? I'm finding a number of instances where a couple actively uses the same account, and would think having something beyond "male" and "female" would facilitate people finding what they are looking for.

I have recently been thinking the same thing. It seems like most couples that share a profile set it up as female. This allows them access to the Ladies room or now user rooms that are female gender specific. The problem is that there is no way of knowing which person is online or if both are.

While I know that accounts are not to be shared according to the site terms, the fact is that there are many couples on here and it seems like the mods look the other way in regards to that. I do not really have a problem with that, as often a household may only have one computer. I just have an issue with them being able to enter a ladies only room.

If an ''couples'' option was added to the sex field, it would allow the couples to openly share an account, and the site terms could be changed to say couples are allowed.

Along theses same lines, the sexual orientation field needs some updating. A Cross dresser option should be added. There are many men who still consider themselves male, but love wearing women's clothing. Their only option at this point is for them to select Transsexual, even if they are not. As an alternative (or an additional) option, perhaps an Other with a field to enter a short description could be added.

Also, perhaps the same type of Other option could be added to the Relationship Status field.
Okay, next suggestion(s) are about the chat rooms.

1) Would it be possible to make the ''says to'' list alphabetical? Leave says to as the default and at the top of the list, but make the rest in alphabetical order. It would make it much easier to locate other actions. Also, the inquire should display as ''Innocently inquires of'' rather than ''Innocently inquires about''.

2) I have asked this one before, but going to request it again. Can a color palette chart be added to the user created rooms in addition to the other backgrounds? The current color options could be eliminated, just leaving the picture backgrounds and the palette. Along the same lines, would it be possible to change the background color in the Lush rooms to something a bit less stark, like a pale grey or beige?

3) I know a lot of changes have been made to the user rooms in the last 8 months or so, most good, but some not as good. The current way it is set up can leave these rooms without a mod. Also, quite often, two people open a room together, but only one will have owner rights. So....

3a) Can an option be added, either during the initial set up, as a member option in the room, or in both places, to add a co-owner. This person would be in addition to the current 4 additional mods that can be assigned, and would have the same rights as the room creator. If added during then initial setup, both names would show on the chat home page.

3b) At one point, someone with a shield could leave the room for 10 minutes (I think it was 10) before losing their shield, but somewhere along the line, that changed. With Lush frequently hiccuping, necessitating people to refresh, or the way sometimes certain things can make you accidentally boot yourself from a room, it leaves a room mod-less. This should be restored to the 10 minute time frame before a shield is lost.

3c) It seems like there are some people that create a room, stay a short time, then leave. Sometimes they assign other mods, sometimes not, but as these rooms often live on for long periods of time, once again, rooms are often left without a mod. So my suggestion here is that if neither the creator or an assigned co-owner is present in a room after a specific amount of time (say 60 minutes), the room shuts itself down.
Not sure if it has been mentioned previously but a way in which you can "tag" another member into forum posts. I know you can quote them and it appears on their timeline so something similar to this but in a way to tag others in your posts.
I'm always looking for ways to track my growth as a writer and find other great authors to read, so with that in mind I would be interested if I could track who the top 100 authors on the site are.

You could do this either using a similar technique as the top author of the month box, or you could go off the number of followers an author has.
Just thought of another thing. When commenting on a friend's wall, or on one of the photos in their gallery or albums, you have the option to delete the comment. If you find you have made a typo, the only thing you can do is delete and redo it. Could an edit feature be added to these areas?
I use my playstation3 for all my internet requirements, including logging on to Lush (i don't have a pc or laptop) but i'm unable to access the chat rooms, i have e-mailed the team to see why but they haven't managed to rectify this yet.... it would be nice to chat with the other members...some of you might think that the audience of playstation users would be a bit young for this site, but surveys have shown that the majority of playstation users are in the 25-35 year old bracket, and i'm older! so please Team Lush... try to sort this out
I'm wondering, if we log completely off of Lush, that when we log on, that there could be a feature to come on invisible or available before coming on. That way if we just want to come on to submit a story, we can do it privately. Or, whatever the case maybe. If we come on available, people see us, even if we jump into invisible right after. I don't like ignoring folk. Is this something we can do? Please.

Or go invisible before you log off? Then you'll be invisible when you log back on- am I right?

I'd like to suggest a sub section in the General Forum for Members Announcements.
This could be for wishing Happy Birthday, Leaving, Taking A Break, New Story Out. Things like that, that would be a go to place rather than them being scattered. It might encourage members to post before they leave as long as they post their user name in the thread, lol.
Member announcement: Nicola is in a relationship with dpw. It may not work out, but we'll give it our best.

I can foresee a forum like that being a drama magnet, but it could have its merits.

You made me spill my coffee, lmao.
I really like the addition of the few new categories (college sex, etc) ... terrific for the authors and the readers to find just what they want with one click!

I would love to see the category "Office Sex" smile

Pretty please ....
Don't know if this is right place to post this. Can we have it be a secret on what we score/rate a story or poem? I'm assuming authors like to have their work commented on, but maybe it's best not to score/rate it?
I just gave a "friend" a score of 4, then wrote a nice comment about enjoying the work.
I got a black box asking why a 4. I gave my reply that it had too many similiarities to other works (or something like that). Then I said I wish I could rate the best work a 5++++++, but I only had a 4 or 5 to choose from.
This was his response: " your reasoning sounds so typical...I am not porn writer...you disrespect my work and that's deceiving and like typical lushers "
Ouch! I said I certainly did not mean to disrespect his work, but feel free to un-friend me.
His response: : “consider it done...you are a disgrace "
I would hesitate to rate any more people if they can see what I rated. That HURT and I don't like hurting others - obviously I did.

Sorry to hear about this Elizabeth. You shouldn't feel guilty about the score you give (and knowing you a little, I'm of the opinion that your votes tend to be very fair and balanced). Sadly some do get bent out of shape for scores below a five, whether they are warranted it not.

You can disable scores in your account settings, so that people won't be able to see when you vote... Pity if you have to do it though...

not going to comment on the suggestion. i AM going to comment on the rest of this, though. they don't sound like much of a friend. i've gotten notes from people (hi Rumple! biggrin) saying, they scored my story lower because it wasn't up to snuff with what i usually write, and i'm okay with that, and it makes me take stock and try a little harder to better myself with the next one. if a friend can't be honest with you, it really isn't much of a friendship, and if someone is willing to end a friendship over something like that, you're probably better off. my opinion? you didn't do anything to hurt them - they, however, were rude and hurtful - calling you a disgrace? seriously? tell them to grow up and act like an adult instead of an entitled spoiled child.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

Where there are scores, there will be drama. There's not much you can do about that.

When you make it harder for folks to figure out who voted what, those who are overly concerned with their scores will begin guessing instead. That can turn out even worse.

If you ever wonder why so few people vote compared to the number who read ( even discounting the various bots and spider hits ) the author reaction posted by elizabethblack above is a textbook example of one reason.

Everybody starts out a little touchy about their scores. Some simply don't grow out of it.

I'm sorry that's happened to you, Elizabeth! Some writers need to get over themselves. Readers shouldn't be rebuked by a writer because they give a story something below a 5.

If people are getting abused because of scoring maybe we should remove the names from the timelines. I don't like that, but no one should be treated that way.

I wonder how often this is happening...
Like anyone here that writes and has their work posted, I certainly like to get "5"'s for my work.

Now, MISS SPRITE may or maynot remember this, but she boldly told me "why" she gave me a lesser score after helping me get a piece properly formatted, etc. for publication. TO THIS DAY, I am proudest of that score because she told me "why" and it has been a big help to me since then.

As for Elizabeth's 'former' friend ... that was extremely rude and UN-gentlemanly to fuss at her for taking the time to be honest with how she felt. Those of us that write and post our work really need people to read our work and feel free to honestly comment on it. WRITERS need READERS and this is the kind of thing that drives readers away.

I'm happy / thrilled to have someone like Mazza, or Sprite, (as notable, talented writers) to comment on my scribblings. But I'm also extremely pleased to have a 'reader' like Elizabeth to read/score/and comment honestly on my work and to say that they were "touched" by it. I think that Elizabeth is due an apology.
Personally, I don't see the problem about scoring stories. I think Lush has just about got the subject covered. I mean you can have a reader score and comment, score without commenting, comment without scoring, or none of the above. How else can they set it up any more comprehensively?

If you don't like how readers score your stories, get rid of scoring. If you don't like the comments, get rid of them. It's all about the settings you use.

I had a problem once with someone going through and "downscoring" My stories so I changed My settings to prevent that.

We all would like to get straight 5's but if we did that, then we would never improve our writing. And like it has been said above, if I get a lower score with an explanation, it helps TREMENDOUSLY in improving My work!

As writer's we put ourselves out there and hope that we offer something of value to people. Most of the time we do. But on occasion, we come across someone who doesn't see the world the way we do. That's to be expected - it's a big world!

Oh and Elizabeth, had you did that with one of My stories, you would have gotten a very big thank you!

It would be great if there was a more responsive version of the Lush CSS that could handle tablets and smartphones. The mobile version is fine if all you want to do is read stories but there's really no reason why this site can't work as well on a tablet as it does on a laptop.

unsemantic.com produce a good responsive framework - or you could go for adapt.js if you don't want to head down the SASS route

I wished it was not so hard to have a story submiited, quotation marks, paragraphs, ect, maybe the editors that read them and deny them can fix them too

They do little fixes in what I should imagine is a large percentage of the stories submitted. Every story verifier probably has his or her own limits of what's a "quick fix" they can do and post, but there has to be a limit.

If they were doing a full-blown edit on every story they verified, the queue would be days and days long to see your story post. As the site gains in popularity and new authors, that only becomes more of a problem.

The verifiers do a good job of explaining why they reject something, in my experience, and are more than willing to follow up with more detailed information to help you avoid that particular pitfall in the future.

Although it can be disheartening to have a story rejected (and I've had stories rejected), I think it's important that whenever possible, stories should be submitted as correctly as possible.

Verifying stories is a time-consuming process and the mods simply do not have the time or resources to fix or edit every story which is submitted - take a look at the front/home page and see how many stories go "live" every day!

To properly and thoroughly proofread and correct a story can take hours, depending on the original quality of the story.

You have to realise that the mods here are volunteers and do this work for Lush because they are committed to the constant improvement and overall quality of the site and want to give something back for the wonderful community that we have here.

Although they cannot "fix" stories for people, they will steer you in the right direction, pointing out the areas which need improvement and providing useful links to help you with your story's specific issues. They are also very approachable and if you are unsure how to go about fixing your story, you can PM the mod (or any story verifier) and ask them for help and guidance, which they are generally forthcoming and helpful in providing (time permitting of course)

There are also excellent forums here which will help you to improve your work.

I'm not sure that people are quite aware of what a draining and time-consuming task it can be to verify stories, but it really is. It can be a tough and stressful job. They will usually fix one or two small or minor errors, but anything more than that really is the writer's responsibility.

Generally speaking, if you make sure to carefully spell check your work and proof read it (an excellent tip I was once given was to read my stories aloud before submitting them, it really does make any errors much more noticeable). My point is, that if the mods can see that you have tried very hard with your story and listened to their advice and corrected what you can before re-submitting, they will be much more understanding.

Can I also offer that it is very worthwhile to take the extra time to work on your story and make it as good as it can be - your scores and comments will improve and you'll build up a following and take more pride in what you write. Also, see if any of your friends would be willing to read over your work first - sometimes when you're involved in a piece, it's more difficult to be objective and see problems or mistakes...

I have to say that I personally do not have very much time at present to read stories, so I find it rather annoying when I get one which is simply littered with careless errors - I mean, if the writer isn't prepared to make an effort with what they post, why should the reader make an effort to look at it? (not that this happens too much here - sub standard stories are generally sent back to the author to be corrected before they can be posted on the site)

Anyway, good luck with your continued writing!!

http://www.lushstories.com/forum/yaf_topics3_Writers-Resources.aspx

The above is a link to many resources that will help you including some videos on various grammar and editing issues.

I believe that one of the reasons that Lush is growing rapidly is the quality of the stories that are published here. The team of story moderators has been working for some time to raise the bar on the literacy level on Lush and we are succeeding. There is no way that a group of volunteers like this could possibly "fix" all of the stories submitted.

If you have specific questions after reading all of the resources available, please PM any of the story moderators found in "Lush Contacts". We do expect writers to do the work to bring their stories to the standard displayed on the site. You should also read the site guidelines to insure that your story is compliant.
