It's 30 more than I ever thought I would have though so I'm very happy.
I vote yes to all the new badges. Gives me more to shoot for

I'd love it if we had the extra toolbar features we have here on the forums, available when writing a PM to someone. Even just the text choices, bold, italic, colour etc....

I've always wondered why non gold members get almost as much from the site as gold members. In my opinion, there's no incentive to pay for gold because non gold are getting almost the same privileges.
Maybe a couple of the most popular social features could be available for only gold or silver. Features that aren't going to encourage a reader to go elsewhere.
Invisibility Take that ability away from non paying members. I've only got to look at my friends list to see hardly anyone is ever visible and I rarely see the name of anyone sitting at the bottom of the forums. Taking a guess, I think that would be fairly popular.
No storage space for uploading pictures,
No private photo albums or videos,
No image or video gallery
Not being able to hide the last visit to the site. (perhaps no posting on friends walls) for 'ordinary' members. This option has an extra advantage of taking some of the weight off the servers. Perhaps just one of these options would encourage people to go gold or silver.
It's not taking much away from them, but they're still features I think members would pay to have. Readers can still read, writers can still write and upload their stories here for free but if you want extras, you have to buy gold or silver. Even just to be able to be invisible on the site would encourage some readers to buy gold or silver.

As much as I would like to see, as many would, more members give back in the form of either silver or gold membership I don't think taking away features that have effectively always been free is the right way to go .. it would simply (I must stop using that word) be unfair. All of the things you get on either membership are extra's but perhaps those extra's aren't enough to encourage many of the circa 250k members to hand over their cash. If the site owner is interested in trying to generate more revenue through these memberships then I think it's a case of throwing more goodies into the pot.
I was going to suggest as another extra, in the chat rooms given I use them a little bit, free biscuits and tea/coffee within reason but I've been there and done that and quite honestly they just don't taste the same.
Just my 2 pence.

Thanks John, I meant new memberships, not existing ones. I edited my post above to reflect that.. The coffee, tea and bikkies won't work, they never like what you give them.. They always want better ones.

So there'd be non-gold members who get grandfathered in, and new non-gold members will be the ones without all the perks that other non-gold members already enjoy?
The gold memberships weren't originally created for exclusion. From what I understand, there were people who loved the site so much that they wanted to donate monetarily, so the gold memberships were a way for them to not only donate securely, but also as sort of a 'Thank you for donating, here's a few perks.' Not to exclude those who don't donate.
And I'm sure that's not the intent behind your request, but denying a non-gold member the ability to post on a friend's wall...among other things, seems like a bit much. The site as we enjoy it now was here first. The gold memberships are just a byproduct, not the other way around.

It would still be a 'free' site. Being able or unable to make yourself invisible or other little perks would be classed no differently than the little advantages Gold members receive now.
