Sharbat Gula was one of the students in an informal school within the refugee camp; McCurry, rarely given the opportunity to photograph Afghan women, seized the opportunity and captured her image. She was approximately 12 years old at the time. This was 1984

My wifes fave ...she took this at a concert many years ago

He had a lot of impact on a lot of people.
South Africa winning the rugby world cup.
Why: Because it proved to the whole world that South Africa is over the racism, and we as a team (black and white together) can win something.

Thanks for that Gypsy. Jinx was beautiful. She reminds me of Kate Winslet.

I hadn't noticed that, but you're right, there is something similar about the two of them. I love this photo. It's just about perfect. The photographer caught her at just the right moment, and Jinx was just so cool, acting as though she didn't know that Ruth was there with her camera. All those guys, so caught up in the lovely young woman, didn't notice the photographer either. That is so unlikely to happen nowadays.

She most certainly was. I loved the other photos of her on the website, too.

I've seen those two pictures before, She was stunning at age 12 really beautiful.
There's this one picture I took when I was in Dachau that is an image I will always keep in my head. Wish i could post it but it is on my memory stick back in London. It's a picture of the crematorium in the concentration camp there. Every time I look at it I remember what my little brother said to me "If I were there I would like to have worked in this kitchen. Why are they so big?"
