You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

#5 The Collector by John Fowles, but I didn't see the Terrance Stamp movie. The one I saw was much older. I shouldn't get credit since you gave a clue, but I have read the book. It is also partially featured in an episode of Criminal Minds. That's where I think I first heard of it and then got it and read it.

These kind of games are actually fun. No one is gonna add more clues?
Here are a few if anyone wants to guess. I think I made most of them too easy haha. These contain spoilers I suppose.
1. A vicious half breed is separated from his mother - becomes a prize fighter - retires and eventually finds redemption in california.
2. A science student's experiment turns into something that is more than he bargained for - death and revenge follows - Scientist pays the ultimate price.
3. An Alabama lawyer with two wily children defends a man accused of a heinous crime - the verdict is guilty but the victim's father is still not satisfied and takes matters into his own hands.
4. Two migrant workers flee to a new ranch in california after one of them is accused of a crime - they hope to one day own their own ranch - only one of them survives.
5. The highly motivated and cunning daughter of children's book author disappears from her home - reunites with her husband by the end.
Bonus Clue
6. A struggling artist details his early life - grows conflicted with how politics in his part of the world are being handled - details his ideology with a focus on scapegoating.

Ugh!
2. Mary Shelley's Frankenstein? (I'm sure this is wrong (not a student), will try again if I can think of it)
3. Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird
4. John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men
I'm stumped on the other two.

Those other book themes sound very intriguing. Occasionally I step away from comic books and coloring books.
