The parrotfish, a small, very common tropical fish feeds on the algae that grows on coral reefs, In doing so, it ingests calcium carbonate (the material the coral is made of). It can't use the calcium cloride itself, so it excretes it as a cloud of sand. A parrotfish can excrete up to 800 pounds of this sand in a year.
