I snogged a pretty Irish girl named Aibreann once.

I once knew (but, alas did not snog, although I was willing) an Irish girl named Eithne, after some queen of some part of Ireland centuries ago. She wore a headband
@Shannon3K

There have been a few, but ONE of the great loves in my life was called Eithne. (Eth-Nah)

I used to call her 'Effie'!

(I won't tell you the story because I don't come out of it very well!)

But, GOD, she was GORGEOUS!

Let me add Mehalah to your list. Love your posts even though your Kevin Barry Index might be a touch low. (Only teasing. No offence.)

I'll just throw this in here because I'm in a CHATTY mood...

(I went to an all-Irish speaking Public School in Dublin. So, the IRISH I learned and spoke was VASTLY different to the language spoken in rural GAELTACHT areas of Ireland in places like Galway, Cork and Donegal.) The WORDS are basically the same, but the INFLECTIONS and ACCENTS even among Native Speakers are HUGE!

In the '90s, I dated a girl, (Sorcha O'***agan) who hailed from the GWEEDORE GAELTACHT in Co. Donegal. When I'd go to the bar to order a drink in her local pub, the bartenders used to gather 'round and PISS THEMSELVES laughing at my accent!!!

Again, IF YOU ARE INTERESTED... NYC comedian DES BISHOP did a show here where he LEARNED to speak Irish!!! This is him in Gweedore, (Which you'll notice from the roadsigns is spelled Gaoth Dobathair up there!!!)

Thank you Steph! I loved this link!
i cant believe you didn't include Aoife on your list... so many vowels in so short a name.. (one of the loves of my life.. a girl from Donegal who ended up in Scotland for a while)

My series about Chloe the dominating stepdaughter who controls her submissive stepmother has finished. It all started with Her Panties but does it end Happily Ever After?

THAT IS A POPULAR NAME HERE!!!

(I forgot LOADS!!!)

Dearbhla, (and you PRONOUNCE it PERFECTLY...) is a LOVELY name...

MY DEARBHLA was called Dev, or Devvie or Dav...

(God, this THREAD brings back MEMORIES!!!)

Devvie Ni Haunessey. (That's the ANGLO version...)

Dearbhla Ni Shaunghsigh.

In IRISH, ALL GIRLS have a *NI* in their name... (It means 'DAUGHTER OF...')

(Irish MEN often have a MAC or Mc in there names and that means, 'Son Of...')

When Irish girls GET MARRIED they take the MAN'S name... (Except in MY FAMILY!!!)

But SERIOUSLY... If I got married to SPRITE SHE would be Rachel Bean Roibin... (The woman of Robinson...) BEAN (BAN!) means WOMAN... (CAILIN means GIRL...) (Koll-Een...)

I DIDN'T MAKE THE FUCKING RULES!!! We're CELTS!!!

xx SF

And THINKING about THAT they'd say her name like, Rah-A-Chelle...

(Deal with it... We're a THREE THOUSAND YEAR OLD CULTURE!!!)

Raachela Robeen has a RING to it???

I have a FRIEND here called KAREN... (There is NO IRISH for KAREN... So WE'd say, CHAIREANN... (which TO YOU would sound like Karr-Ehann... Except with a BURR...)

Irish is a FUCKED language...

(No wonder we are all mad...)

Actually a few of those names can easily be found here in the States and many of those pronunciations are used, just spelled different. There are 39.6 million Irish-Americans. So when are you coming over for your Steph's American Tour? Oh, I forgot, you still have charges pending over here from your rock-n-roll band days and there are those paternity suits.
