Why do some want a fwb instead of a relationship?

I have come to realize that I need time away from other people and a marriage or even just cohabiting doesn't leave much of that kind of space. So at the very least, a relationship where we do things together, travel together, and, yes, have sex but don't necessarily live together full-time and deliberately build in some space. Is that a friend with benefits or something more? Hard to say. I suppose you could structure even a marriage that way but not sure.

Learning to draw the human body becomes a lesson of another kind.

I’ll guess it’s that they don’t want any of the responsibilities of a relationship. Like maybe monogamy, or even the negotiation aspect of polyamory.

No birthday cards or presents, no Christmas, Anniversary, no need for the responsibility which romance requires, the poor lazy dears.

No need to accept responsibility for any of it — let’s just fuck. A free hooker. Well good for them but I think it’s a lazy cop out.

I will say I believe that is a relationship. I’ve known some people who didn’t follow the usual steps that move ever toward living together. They don’t have the idea that an intimate relationship must move toward having children, and they live in their separate spaces.

I could be wrong; maybe that is FWB.
