Thing is, here in Canada, we aren't even that consistent on short date format. In fact, Windows insists we use dd-mm-yy(or yyyy) but mm-dd-yy(yy) gets used a lot, too. And the ministry of health (my company bills them for much of our business) used to be yyyy-mm-dd but then switched to dd-mm-yyyy. The date area on cheques (which has been standardised since 2002 or somewhere thereabouts) is yyyymmdd.

And don't get me started on British vs. American English (we are supposed to use British spellings, but in practice it's a mixed bag).

I actually think it kinda cool to get dates like this. 06.06.06, 11.11.11, and now 11.12.13. It's cool.

Next year, we'll get 12-13-14 (if you go mm-dd-yy) and, as dpw pointed out, those who use dd-mm-yy still have 11-12-13 looming. Can't think of any others that are imminent. It is kind of neat when thing line up like that, even if it is just simple mathematics kicking in.
