Some are seasonal live guava, figs and lychees.

An old flatmate of mine used to pour flaxseed oil on his cereal, his nutritionalist told him he was dangerously low in something or other, and that had the highest concentration in it. I'd never heard of it before then, nor tried it.

Dark chocolate and red wine, yum.

I don't know if you noticed, but it's largely a Mediterranean diet. I thought there would be more fish in there.

I researched a lot of these so called "cleansing" diets too - most are along the same lines, fruit only in the morning, vegetables for lunch, minimal meat. It makes sense, but is quite impractical.

Giving up alcohol and coffee for a few extra years life when you're decrepit sitting in a chair dribbling? That's a BIG ask!

I don't eat meat or fish (I'm veggie) but most of the other things on the list are on my plate.

I use ground flax seed on my cereal - it's high in omega 3 fatty acid (similar to salmon). Benefits of flax seed include lowering total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol (the Bad cholesterol) levels, lower blood triglyceride levels and lower blood pressure. It may also keep platelets from becoming sticky and reduce risk of a heart attack. Flax seed oil is not the same as flax seeds. Flax seed oil is a concentrated source of ALA, which has been questioned for its potential association of increasing prostate cancer risk.

As for wine and chocolate, well...you know.
Okay, okay, but you had me with the Dark Chocolate & wine.

Perversely I also eat 21 of the 25. I'll definietly look into the flaxseed. Figs & lychees kinda hard to come by where I am and the tofu just makes me retch. Sorry Ali, but it would be remiss of me not to make use of my god-given canine teeth and tuck into the odd steak or two!!

It took me years to get hubby to eat tofu, but he and my daughter are both carnivores.
Im sad to see that 2minute noodles and bake beans arent on there since thats Basically what I live one. Though I eat a lot of avo's, so Ive got one down.

I remember being a poor student too. Oh my god, that was nearly 20 years ago when I finished University.

Thanks for the info Ali, I will keep an eye out for the flax seeds.

The other thing a friend of mine introduced me to is Chia, it has been hailed as a "Super food". He works in a health food store, and has access to all the food science journals etc. http://www.living-foods.com/articles/chia.html
Hi Nic, I tried dried figs this week, yuk. Any ideas on how to use them up in cooking or something. They tasted soft obviously but with loads of little crunchy seeds inside. They where weird. So as I type this there sitting in my kitchen.

I have also bought this week Quinoa, my daughter has Coeliac. It looks like cous cous in size, but I need ideas on how to make it interesting.

I like cooking with frozen soya mince, but only because I'm a bit dubious as to what in any kind of mince.

Guacamole! Personally I love avocados but a good guacamole is something else!
Ya know it's rather funny I eat most of that stuff anyways but I HATE flaxseed can't stand the taste of it and don't get me started on tofu that's just wierd tasting to me. Personally I am a meat eater and always will be. But on that note I have never done what you would call a diet and I still lost almost 80 pounds just from cutting back and riding my bike all summer took almost 2 years but I have kept it off. I had people ask me what I gave up and only 3 things on that list regular soda don't hardley drink much these days and white sugar other than that at white bread pasta and all.
Surprisingly I hit 14 out the list, which is actually surprising because I make no conscious effort whatsoever to "watch what I eat". I just eat things I like, and that taste good ROFL!

Im not poor, I just cant cook. I grew up with maids that handled all the nitty gritty stuff. Now I'm basically a domestic wreck.
Oh, I didn't mean so much poor as in poverty, I meant having to fend for yourself.

I was a vegetarian during my Uni days, I ate mainly pasta or rice dishes, easy, if not a little drab.
Ha ha, I'm vegetarian too!
Guava, lychee, nashi pears and figs are rare to come by where I live but otherwise I'm eating everything on that list.

About the flax seed, if you can get the whole seed and get yourself a cheap coffee grinder, you can grind the seeds yourself as you need it. The flax oil in pre-ground seeds tend to break down over time.

Lindt makes a 90% cocoa bar. I have a square after dinner, umm... for "medicinal" reasons.

I always wondered who it was who buys cans of

I have never bought one in my life. I recall my mother serving it to me once as a child, and the sweaty little pink slice remained on the plate. It looked like it had a half-life of about 300 years.
My mom's side of the family had heart disease, and I vowed it wasn't going to take me down. I take the Omega-3s, cook with canola oil, use Olivia, which is a margarine made from olive oil, eat lots of cereal, and avoid the trans-fats whenever possible. It's really not that hard to do when you know what to look out for.

same here, i never bought one too. mom serves it for breakfast back then when I'm still studying, 'cause it's easy to cook specially when you're on a hurry not to be late for school. It tastes good though.

the trick to avocado pear is that it needs to be ripe...mashed up with salt and pepper on toast (orgasmic look) or cut up in salad...or eaten straight out of the skin salt&peppered yummmmmmmmm(craving avocado)
and my favourite bread is whole wheat and seeded with linseed...it's divine
