Ahhh I love this film. A fantastic Scorsese.. This film is what really made me love Leonardo DiCaprio. I wasn’t overly fond of him before, but my whole attitude towards him as a serious actor changed once I saw this… The acting is fantastic… Matt Damon is so good as a “baddy” and such a contrast to how he was in The Bourne films. Jack Nicholson again was brilliant and I just loved Mark Wahlberg and his whole attitude, he had some brilliant lines... All in all a fantastic film, exceptional casting, directing and an exciting story.. If you have never seen it.. your missing out!

You do realize this was almost a carbon copy of the Hong Kong original "Infernal affairs"?

Being born and raised in the Boston area, seeing this movie made me miss home (I was living in North Carolina when it came out.) I got excited when they mentioned my favorite hometown hangout, the Dedham Mall! I called it when I saw the movie that Scorcese would finally win the Beast Director Oscar, which we all know was long overdue. The acting was great (shocking for me to say that since I think DiCaprio is one of the most overrated actors of alltime....Nicholson with a Boston accent was insane. Damon & the Wahlbergs, well, they didn't obviously didn't have to try to use a Boston accent.). The scenery made me cry (all part of the missing home thing LOL).

As much as I liked The Departed, I'm with thepainter when it comes to Infernal Affairs being better, but remakes/reimaginings are rarely if ever better than the original.
"Nos laetus epulor qui would domito nos. (We gladly feast on those who would subdue us.)"
"Nil satis nisi optimum. (Nothing but the best will do.)"
"I hate it when things don't go my way. It makes me so...horny." - Sarah Michelle Gellar (Kathryn, Cruel Intentions)
"Sex is just alone time with someone else there." - Taint on The Lex And Terry Show, 11/11/09
"Stupidity isn't a crime, so you're free to go."
"I am The Devil, too. There can only be one devil. One of us must go." - Ozzy Osbourne at the end of his cover of "Sympathy For The Devil"
"Your ego is not your amigo." - Nikki Sixx, The Heroin Diaries
"It's my world. I'm just letting you live here." - Mandy, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy

I'm sorry does it say movie club about 'internal affairs' (rolls eyes) I loved the Departed...I didn't want to because I also think Dicaprio is overrated..but fuck me he blew me away as the underdog in this...This had a great cast...Mark Walhberg was outstanding...The 'Are you calling us cunts? scene was brilliant...it might have been a remake but I loved it even though I was deeply prejudiced towards watching it because of Dicaprio...there was gunfire, love, betrayal, swearing, gangsters and lots and lots of killing...I loved it(huge thumbs ups)

Just creating awareness in case people don't know it's a remake. I saw "The Departed" at the cinema and by the time the final line of the credits mentioned the movie being "inspired by 'Infernal Affairs'" everyone else had long left the movie theater.
Yes I'll admit it was a well-done remake but if Scorsese had any balls he would have had this acknowledgement of the original right up front before the opening sequence started.
All he really did was place the story in the US, make a few small changes in the script and do it in English.
Call me a movie snob if you want but Andy Lau singlehandedly owns all the big hollywood stars in "The Departed" with his little pinky.

Also, I honestly don't get the DiCaprio hate. He even played in "Critters 3" and the "Growing pains" TV series!
But seriously, he was awesome in movies like "This boy's life", "What eating Gilbert Grape", "The basket ball diaries" to name a few, before he got really known for "Titanic".
Maybe I missed a memo that it was cool to hate him but in my not so humble opinion he's always been a great actor with sometimes not so great choices for movie roles. The latter is no reason to dislike him though. How many actors can you name who have consistently played in great movies?

I don't hate him ...I loved him in his pre-Titanic stuff...I just thought he sold out a bit and then he was in everything at one time...though Inception looks good..
Johnny Depp
Stanley Tucci
Christian Bale
etc etc...but I digress he blew me away in this movie...renewed my faith in him as an actor

Selling out means what? Being in a few blockbusters? "The Departed" was a blockbuster. So is "Shutter Island". So what's the difference between these recent flicks where you like him again and his so-called selling out movie roles?

He was overexposed..it happens with movie stars ...It seemed every big blockbuster had him in it
Titanic
The Man in the Iron Mask
The Beach
Catch Me If You Can
Gangs of New York
The Aviator
Blood Diamond

Eight movies in 9 years is being in every blockbuster and overexposed? To be fair, you didn't list "Don's plum" or "Celebrity" from that 9 year period even though they're not blockbusters. So ten movies in 9 years is overexposure huh?
Should we list all the blockbusters from 1997 to 2006 that did not have DiCaprio in it?

It's not even a debate. You're simply expressing personal opinion which you're very much entitled to. I'm too much of a scholar to merely express my opinion, always need to back it up with objective data.
Though icecreamcandy will tell you I have no taste in good movies.

The only movies on this list I'd consider a sellout role would be the Beach and the Man in the Iron Mask.

I think most actors would have worked with Cameron on Titanic. It's a better movie than people give it credit for. It's not my favorite but I do think it had better acting than Camerons other movies.

And his Scorsese movies? Scorsese is hardly a blockbuster director. Can't blame dicaprio if marty wants him to be his new DeNiro.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know shit from Shinola when it comes to movies, but I've always thought that those movies that prove DiCaprio were such a great actor could have easily been played by any number of other male leads and been none the worse for wear. Especially "Blood Diamond". What genius thought he could carry off that accent well? I could have easily seen Liam Neeson in that role, or Daniel Craig... shit, Daniel Craig would have been awesome! Pretty much anybody could have done it... but not Leo.

First I was not a fan of Dicaprio until Gangs of New York,
Second my favorite Walhberg scene was his exchange with baldwin's character with may favorite line being "how is your father. good he's tired from fucking my mother."

And here is the trailer.

First time I watched it I wasn’t overly impressed.. Its very long and I didn’t really get into it.. I watched it again a few years later and I grew to really like it. Not overly impressed with DiCaprio in this to be honest… still very boyish, but he was alright… Loved Daniel Day Lewis as the Butcher.. he was utterly fantastic and despite him being a complete bastard I actually really liked the character. Liam Neeson was also very good…. Never really been a fan of Cameron Diaz either, she annoyed me quite a bit in this I have to be honest.
It’s a film that I grew to like, despite some of the actors and actresses that I wasn’t overly fond of and the more I see it the more I actually like it. I particularly loved the scene at the end where you see New York change over time to what was in 2002 the present day.
