Gene Wilder, whose wild curls and startling blue eyes brought a frantic air to roles in the movies "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," "Young Frankenstein" and "Blazing Saddles," has died at the age of 83, his family announced.

Wilder, whose best work came in collaborations with director-writer Mel Brooks and actor Richard Pryor, died at his home in Stamford, Connecticut, from complications of Alzheimer's disease, the family said in a statement.

Thanks for the thread Liz. Though I have a soft spot in my heart for Willy Wonka, having read the book first then watched Gene bring the character to larger than life, his role in Young Frankenstein will always be my favorite. But beyond that he was such a truly lovely man, and when Gilda passed away it was both his depth of sadness and his strength to carry on and make sure her death would never be in vain that made him the just a bit more special than most. Will miss you Gene.

That's sad news.

I loved his films when I was growing up.

R.I.P. Gene Wilder.
RIP to a great performer. Loved him in 'The Producers', Blazing saddles and so much more. Did you know he played a hitchhiker in 'Bonnie & Clyde?'
Such a great comedian. I adored him in the woman in red
SALUTE!!!!!!
