Tea Kettle is refilled and ready. There are pots of Yorkshire and Assam teas available on the sideboard, plus all the other fine teas in the box. Sachets of Swiss Miss are available, along with the usual mound of mini marshmallows.

Big Bertha has been cleaned, rinsed, and refilled, and is now perkin' away.

Today we're using Salt Spring Coffee, from Canada's Wet Coast, for that laid-back, mellow feeling.

This fine morning, we have coffee cake and butter tarts to go with your coffee and all you tarts…

I'm sure Lion will be along at any moment to spin some tunes for us!

On the one hand, I has a sad that we didn't get any hockey gold this year.

On the other hand, the finals were both good, dramatic games so I can't complain too much.

And what is it with the USA finally grabbing gold in events it's been shut out of for decades? Alysa Liu's gold was the first women's singles gold for the US since 2002. She's a damn fine skater, by the way. Alysa almost retired in 2022 (retired at 16, WTF???) so not sure what her plans are going forward. She's doing international relations or something like that at UCLA so maybe can parley her skating success into some kind of diplomatic career (US IOC member perhaps?)

Here what Terrance and I have to say, the women's teams both Canada and USA acted as Olympians with pride and grace.

But sadly not in Men's Hockey, Gold went to the USA and one player and coach acted like spoiled toddlers.

Well forward Nathan MacKinnon did recieve a stuffed dog. Here is a breakdown

Based on the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Canada men's hockey forward Nathan MacKinnon caused an uproar and faced criticism for his post-game comments after Team USA defeated Canada 2-1 in overtime to win the gold medal. 

Here are the details of the incident:

The Comment: After losing the gold medal game, a "gutted" MacKinnon told reporters, "You be the judge of who was the better team today".

The Uproar: Many fans and commentators labeled the remark as "sore loser" behavior, pointing out that Canada outshot the U.S. 42-28, but failed to capitalize on opportunities, including a significant missed chance by MacKinnon himself in the third period.

Backlash: Social media reactions to the comment included "big crybaby energy" and criticisms that, in hockey, the team that scores more goals is the better team. 

Additional context:

Connor McDavid also faced criticism for failing to win the "big game" and skipping the post-game mixed zone, although teammates indicated this was because he was doing the formal press conference instead.

Canadian coach Jon Cooper also faced scrutiny for "blasting" the 3-on-3 overtime format.

Canadian singer-songwriter-keyboardist and occasional guitarist Gowan (full name, Laurence "Larry" Gowan) had a stellar start to his career, with a string of solo hits here in Canada before eventually becoming vocalist and keyboardist for American rock legends Styx. However, he is back out on tour solo right now and, dang, it's nice to hear him doing his own material again. (Not that that's been lacking in his Styx work. He's co-written a lot of their recent new material and his debut solo hit "Criminal Mind" has become a regular on Styx setlists.). From Pickering, Ontario, just East of Toronto, here's Gowan to liven up your morning. And (swoon) he's wearing a kilt.
