Gooooooooooooooooooooood morning!
Croissants and Lapsang.
Last day before returning to work. I am honestly debating moving up my retirement right now. Last week was heaven. I know it won't always be like that but writing engaged me in a way my work simply does not anymore. And I do have ideas for other things I can be doing if I am not living the daily grind. We are well off to say the least so I'm not really even working for the money anymore. Maybe the health benefits but not the money. So my boss and were discussing August 2028. I'm going to go back and tell him 2027 is more realistic and probably healthier for both me and the company. It means I won't see our big project through to the end (the main reason for picking 2028) but there's more capable people doing the work there anyhow. I will think this through some more, but I am really questioning whether I can handle 2 more years at this point knowing that removing work from the equation for even just a week made me all the happier.
There. My morning rant is done. I'll probably back off in the end, but it's out there.
Now we need some tuneage. How about starting with a beauty queen (Miss World Chile 2025) who is also a metal queen? Decessus is led by the powerful growls of model and metalhead Ignacia Fernandez. Guitarist Carlos Palma is fantastic in this performance, too. This is from the Pulsar Awards, Chile's counterpart to the Grammys.
If metal isn't your thing, how about Tolkien-inspired prog? BrOn is the project of UK musician Dave Bron and is releasing tracks from The Fellowship, an album based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. This one is inspired by the scene in The Fellowship of the Ring where Frodo accepts the mission of carrying the One Ring. Vocalist is Sally Minnear and piper is Catherine Ashcroft, both regulars in Bron's work.

Warning, my writing is about to go weird and dark again!
Hosparus Health has taken over Dad’s care. We met together Friday night and they evaluated Dad. He’s really declined in last month. The nurse said he’s in 1st stage end of life which usually means less than 3 months left, but some do plateau and live longer. He has necrosis starting in a foot. Other foot is swollen many times its normal size. He needs to pass in his condition but I’m not handling the end coming. My bf who passed early 2019 got necrosis in all appendages while in ER. I will never forget seeing that. I feel like an elephant is sitting on me. I don’t think I’ve really released grief from my bf, best girlfriends, Mom because it was one after another I had to be strong for and Dad tanked after Mom passed. I’m going to need help releasing it all, I know.
In the meantime, writing is saving my sanity, but I am having dark and strange ideas in my head.
Kindness is contagious. Spread it! ❤️

Given circumstances, I am not surprised. Good way to get that darkness out, I find. Sending vibes and good thoughts your way. Take care of yourself.

My hubby retired back in 2024 from a job he was ready to be done with. He was tired of being the boss. Now he works for a guy who used to work for him and he's loving the hell out of not being in charge. He's just doing engineering now, no more dealing with other crap. He's happy which makes me happy. And he can often shift work around so we can enjoy the perks of my being retired.
You have to do what feels right for you. 11 years ago, I decided I couldn't teach forever, the way I once thought I could. 8 years ago, when I was finally eligible, I retired. I ended up finding a whole slew of things to do that make me happy, including writing more!
Cheers! I'm glad you have a plan!
The Sultry Siren - my Wherefore Art Thou? competition story tells the tale of a man's obsession.
I have just dropped in whilst sitting in a tent in Kent having had a nice time over the weekend catching up with friends. Packing up later to drive home, our youngest daughter gets married tomorrow. 😀
First of, Kimmi, sorry to hear about your father. My thoughts are with you.
Ape, you need to do what is best for you, but I can tell you at 63 that I don’t miss work at all. I love been retired, like Kat’s husband I was an engineer. I owned an engineering company, sold it a 54, stopped running it at 55 and became a consultant, then stepped fully away at 57. I would suggest consultancy is a good half way house between full retirement and working if you can get it.

First and foremost, Kimmi – you are in our hearts, always.
If you need anything, light, dark, or in between, you got it. 💔 🍷 🤗
Next all this talk of retirement – I guess I'm retired, although I seem to work long hours still.
I worked for myself for decades, and wouldn't have it any other way.
Only once did I have any employees – and that was to help a friend in the States who needed to employ someone in Canada. I don't want to be a manager, and having employees makes MORE work, not less – as Kevin found out.
'Course, now I'm writing a book (again), non-fiction (and non-fuck-tion) (again), so that may have something to do with being busy, and it's my own choice – or fault.
Anyway, I enjoy deciding how I'm going to spend my time.
Except that Lady Jay "helps" me with that, as do my granddaughters. 🙄
But – if you can swing it financially, Ape, go for it! Your life is your own after that.
And with that, let's get some caffeine to help things along.
Tea Kettle is refilled and ready. There are pots of Yorkshire and English Breakfast teas available on the sideboard, plus lotta other fine teas in the box. Sachets of Swiss Miss are available, along with the usual mound of mini marshmallows.
Big Bertha has been cleaned, refilled, and is ready to rumble.
Today we're using Howling Wolf blend coffee from Muskoka Coffee Roasters to kick off a new week.
Is it almost August, already??
I've put out donuts.
And instead of the usual goodies, I've got a new Store Room toy for Kimmi.
Take care out there, 'K?
