It’s an important distinction because currently our country is going a very racist route against Asians and the Chinese in particular.

Lumping every Chinese organization as one thing when they are very different and have very different views perpetuates the racial view of seeing the country as an enemy monolith while taking no subtext into consideration.

Read again what was stated and in what thread:

1. The Epoch Times is literally a Chinese paper pretending to be American conservative news.

It doesn't say 'China backed', as you make it seem and it's posted in a thread about conservatives being stupid.

It’s an example of why people don’t like progressives. They can be ridiculous just like the far right is ridiculous.

In his mind I’m being racist for criticizing something that’s not “white”. I pointed out they’re Chinese.. he says I shouldn’t do that because it stokes anti Asian sentiment in the US.. lol as if not doing that will magically make racist people not racist.

Well that's what happens when one listens to react instead of engage.

I’m sorry for pointing out that you are using the same terminology as racists. I’m more sorry that you see no problem with that.

Anti-Chinese racism is exploding in the US. It’s being pushed by both parties because it’s really the corporations freaking out about losing market shares.

Broadly blaming ‘the Chinese’ for things without specifics or context enforces this rhetoric.

Would it have been so hard to take a few minutes to say ‘The Falun Gong groups, a religious extremist group from China’? Anything like that? But instead you chose a blanket statement that takes in a lot of collateral damage to people that have nothing to do with this.

They’re Chinese, spreading right wing propaganda to the morons.

That’s it.

Defend Falun Gong all you want. They are Chinese propaganda the right wing eats up. Very weird shit.

And you did the exact same thing they did. Blaming China as a whole in broad terms in a way that breeds contempt for the people. What would you have lost from specifying. Or is doubling down on the lack of specifics just tripping on your ego?

On a serious note, can you please cut this out? You’re having an extreme overreaction because someone pointed out the nationality of a propaganda rag. No one in this thread has said anything disparaging about Chinese people.

I’ll say this and drop it. I don’t think what he was saying was with malice or intent to be racist at all, but the reality of the situation is anti-Chinese and anti-Asian racism is on a huge rise in the US. I am extra sensitive to it right now as a friend who is Vietnamese in his nationality was hit with a brick while walking a few days ago and someone screamed ‘Go back to China’ at him while driving away.

The Republicans spurred on this attitude while Trump was in office and rather than battle it the Democrats have doubled down on it. Blaming things that on ‘the Chinese’ with no context is causing tangible harm to the Asian communities not seen since WW2. All I asked was for contextualization and specifics on the subject to lessen that harm.

saying nothing is tacitily condoning actions. as a member of a minority group who works with minorities, some of which are asian, i am very close to the issue as well, i am too well aware of thruth of the phrase: Silence = Death.

Have you told your friend that you want Trump to win yet?

so Rowan's 'overreaction' doesn't belong here while Jack's continual baiting and BS are okay?

Lol, he literally said he wants trump to win. Then he said trump caused anti Asian hate that got a brick thrown at his friend..

Its just as hypocritical as the epoch times talking about China controlling Hollywood.

Anyway, Rowan and your virtue signal has been posted to counter whatever it is I did.

Balance.

Not what I said. You are just someone who’s views are so weak and who’s mind is so small that you think childish tactics like pretending you don’t understand is how you argue.

Frankly you make me less likely to vote Democrat with every post, you’re a remarkable ambassador of the disrespectful and disingenuous politics the left practice.

Thank you for weaponizing my friend’s hate crime, really sick.

Oh lord.. YOU used your friend’s hate crime to begin with… YOU tried to paint me as a racist. YOU said you want trump to win so that it fires up the progressives to play some kind of 4D chess.

You’re being very hypocritical

I didn’t say you were a racist. But I’m certainly believing it now.

I asked you to please use context before broadly painting things ‘Chinese’. I explained why calmly.

You are being disrespectful and are really showing your colors right now. I’m done talking to you, it feels gross.

Good, I don’t like talking to people who throw a fit, like a baby, when they don’t get their way.

I agree Jack’s an asshole, and he baits people all the time, as does just about anyone who posts in the Think Tank. If there’s baiting in relation to Jack posting a glorified Chinese tabloid posting far right propaganda, I honestly don’t see it.

Here’s my understanding of Jack’s post: Conservatives complaining about “the Chinese” running Hollywood, and using a Chinese tabloid that promotes right wing propaganda as proof of said running of Hollywood, which is stupid on the part of conservatives.

Rowan’s response was to assume that Jack was engaging in the bashing and therefore persecution of Asians, which I interpreted as an overreaction.

Is there some context I’m missing? I’m happy to be incorrect. Well, happy is a strong word, but I’d be fine if I’m wrong.

I was pointing out the wording he used is the same as both conservatives and democrats to refer to the Chinese as a whole for any wrongdoing. This has resulted in a spike in anti-Asian violence in America. I simply asked to contextualize the groups you are speaking about instead of saying ‘The Chinese’.

I didn’t assume or say he was bashing the Chinese. I provided context to his statement and when chided and pressed I went into more detail.

That being said I now fully believe Jack is racist because of the energy of his self victimization and insistence on continuing to do something that he was politely told could result in racism even if not intentional. I didn’t before the last few posts though.

I seriously doubt noll will be throwing bricks at Asian people as a result of my posts.

This statement feels incredibly unfounded given my understanding of the circumstances. I’m also a minority, many times over.

I truly do not understand the harm in saying “Look at these conservatives using a Chinese news site that promotes right wing propaganda to show how ‘the Chinese’ are taking over Hollywood.” The hatred that’s being discussed was in the hatred spewed by Kevin Sorbo’s post, not in Jack’s mockery of said post.

It does justice to no one to jump to conclusions and make the wrong person the enemy. There’s been more effort in painting Jack as a racist than actual advocacy to stop Asian hate. In fact, this is the first I’ve seen of the conversation about Asian hate in this space in a while…possibly ever.

I know Jack would stoop to many lows to fuck with people, but racism isn’t one of them. And that’s not a brushstroke you wanna go painting people with lightly. That’s really fucked up.

Racism incidents reported by Asians have increased 76% since 2020. And the causal acceptance by it by Democrats is increasingly disturbing. I was pointing out how the casual grouping of ‘the Chinese’ is a contributing factor that leads to racism.

No accusations of racism were made, but obviously they were internalized which is something that should be explored on their own time.

And there has been nothing but advocacy on how to stop it. Stop referring to negative things widely as being done by ‘The Chinese’. It was my original point. The group from the post is an ex-Chinese religious cult.

Feel free to use ungeneralized language for any ethnic group when you are referring to specific bad actors. It’s a great way to help combat the seeds of racism implanted in our society.

I'm sorry about what happened to your friend, and I do believe racism towards Asians is rising. But nevertheless, your response here really is an overreaction. It was clear that Jack was not speaking about Chinese people in general.
