The governor of New York could bus them to West Palm Beach, Florida.

DeSantis doesn't think they're human beings, though. So, that may not be humane.

As long as they don't bus them to LA.

little off topic, but what saddens me when i see articles and pictures and comments about immigration issues, is that people forget that these are living, breathing, human beings with dreams and hope for a better life. mostly what i hear are things like 'send them back' or 'we don't want them here' or 'ship them somewhere else' like they are just unwanted animals inconveniencing people. not a lot of empathy or compassion. is this what we've evolved into?

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

I think you're understanding exactly how half of the population thinks.

i know this. i deal with this a lot. it still makes me very sad and it's not just immigration. it's the anti-lgbtq+ laws, and the abortion laws, and the way we treat legal minorities... i could go on, but i'm starting to depress myself now.

Immigration is awesome for the growth of the US economy. It always has been. Immigrants will do jobs that established Americans will not.

Most businesses are currently under-employed causing employee staff to be overworked.

Americans work the most hours per week of any people in the world.

We should welcome immigrants. In fact, the federal and state governments should establish programs to help immigrants learn our laws and customs. Especially traffic laws, pedestrian laws, workers rights, etc.

Jimmy Carter was all about programs like that. Even free classes they could sign up for to learn English.

Jimmy Carter may be the most honest, honorable, and caring man to ever serve as President.

This could have been avoided if the change in immigration policy had been better planned.

Not helping dictatorial governments would also have helped. Reducing climate change too (I'm afraid we ain't seen nothing yet). Spreading wealth and not exploiting poorer nations would help too.

That's why there hasn't been a multi-year migrant crisis in the EU, right?

Where did you get that idea?

Watching the news.

Are you trying to say there haven't been drownings? Or Italy's coast guard refusing entry to migrant-filled ships? Or the riots in France? Or the other migration related events? Are those events an indication of a well planned policy?

So, from the news you got that there hasn't been a multi-year migrant crisis in the EU? Is that what you're saying?

And where did you get the idea that I'm trying to say those things?

If the EU's and the US's migration policies and responses had been better planned there'd have been fewer scenes like the one in NYC and fewer drownings in the EU.

I take it you've realised I didn't say, nor was trying to say, the things you we're trying to attribute to me.

I take it you've realized If the EU's and the US's migration policies and responses had been better planned, there'd have been fewer scenes like the one in NYC and fewer drownings in the EU.

And it only took you 4 posts.

It's taken you that long to understand that if the EU's and the US's migration policies and responses had been better planned, there'd have been fewer scenes like the one in NYC and fewer drownings in the EU.

I've spoken too soon. Obviously you still don't get my "Not helping dictatorial governments would also have helped. Reducing climate change too (I'm afraid we ain't seen nothing yet). Spreading wealth and not exploiting poorer nations would help too." post.

Doing what you've decided is what should be done is the only way the world can avoid scenes like the one in NYC and fewer drownings in the EU. Sure.

Where did you get that idea?

From your posts.

But I never said, nor suggested, any like "the only way". You just made that up.

You're trying to shift the discussion away from my comment that the ugly pic from NYC could have been avoided if the change in immigration policy had been better planned. That's what you feel more comfortable discussing, but that's not what my comment was about.

So we agree that you made up the "the only way" part then.

Following your logic I could say that you were trying to shift focus away from what Jack, Buz and Sprite, who were not focusing on migrants = problems, were saying.

I commented on your post in the way I saw fit. And yes, I don't think focusing on immigration policy alone fits these issues. And so I added a few that I think will be more effective as they address the causes instead of the symptom.

The latter is a recurring pattern here btw. Not focusing on the cause of gun violence, but merely adding more armed guards for protection. Not focusing on the causes of climate change, but merely on how we (and essentially just we alone) can manage to survive it. Not focusing on the reasons why people flee their homes, but merely on how to keep them from our lawn.

What I think is relevant to the thread's topic problem is it could have been reduced with better immigration policy and planning.

You didn't want to discuss that. OK, you don't have to.

Stop me if you've heard this one before, but Ironic's killed another thread.
