It is not the government's place to create and run religious schools. In fact, that could be the beginning of the end to religious freedom in the USA.

Sigh. We have had a public religious school system in Ontario since Confederation. Its existence is even protected (at least up to grade 8) by our Constitution. It is, perhaps not surprisingly, Roman Catholic. I would love to see it go and merge the schools into the public system but don't see that happening without a lot of political turmoil so, like the monarchy, we are probably stuck with it for the foreseeable future. Oh, and did I mention that there are also separate French Catholic and public boards in areas with a sufficient French-speaking population?

So I do recommend that you Americans snuff this out quickly. Having multiple parallel school systems is not a good use of time or resources, IMHO, having lived with it all my life.

So much for separation of church and state.

I wonder how much revocation of constitutional rights paved the way for something like this to be possible.
