They don't care about it sticking. They know most people will not follow up on these fantasies when they are debunked and/or implode in the republican's faces months later.
Most people will just see the initial made up stories, multiple times, then just assume where there is smoke there is fire.
Next month the republicans will have some new fantasy they want people to believe, it will turn out to be total bullshit again but the inevitable truth will just be ignored by republicans because deep down inside they know it's all bullshit too and it leaves the news cycle in a couple days.

These responses mostly follow party lines, with 69% of Democrats saying they’ve seen more evidence of wrongdoing by Trump while 69% of Republicans say they’ve seen more evidence of wrongdoing by Biden. Unaffiliated voters are almost evenly divided, with 43% saying they have seen more evidence of criminal wrongdoing by Trump and 40% saying they’ve seen more by Biden.
That must be frustrating to those who have invested much effort in painting either as a criminal.
Call me old fashioned, but I would prefer both Republicans and Democrats present a candidate who isn’t viewed as a likely criminal by close to half of the electorate.
I've never been of the mind that the opinions of a bunch of people constitute my reality. One (of many) reasons I don't belong to a church and I don't get my facts by watching the Family Feud. As MF pointed out, some people will believe any goddam thing you tell them (as long as it's coming from the right face hole), but it doesn't make it right.
