I just tried to upload a story, only to find when I got to the publish page, some sentences were broken, half on one line and half on the next line. Further down, the second part of my story, had gone into double spacing. I went back to the preview screen, and it was okay there. I went back to the publish screen and it did it again. I checked the file in my computer and it was okay there. The second time in the publish screen it was the same, so I went to edit and found the sentences broken there. I went through and corrected it and resubmitted it. Has anyone else had similar problems, or is one of those gliches that occurs from time to time. It's a real pain in the arse, because of the time taken to get it sorted, over an hour.pjrZPtbk7MFcINMN
Thanks Rumple. I wrote it with a Word 2013 template, which I think might be the problem, as I copied it to Word 2000 and it uploaded okay.
Your best bet when uploading a story to any site (particularly here), is to use as flat a file format as possible. Ideally notepad, or wordpad.
MS Word adds lots of invisible junk, which many editors other than word, can't fathom.
We have a "Clean MS Word Format" button, which attempts to strip the junk, but I'm not sure if it works well past MS Word 2010.
You'll see what I mean when you try saving that particular MS Word 2013 document as "Web Page, Filtered (html)", and then view the source. Most of the html is stripped by typical submission boxes, and you're often left with part-garbage code floating around.
I've had this problem when uploading our ebooks for publishing on Amazon and elsewhere. It visually looks fine in word, once it's uploaded to various ePub type formats, it's a mess.
If you have an iPad, I highly reccomend an app called iWriter. Once you learn to use it, you can write incredibly fast. It's very stripped down but it has some great features to it and you will find that while writing on it, it's easy to get "in the zone" and do your best work. It's hard to explain unless you use it.
Since I started writing with it I've never had any formatting problems when submitting to lush.
Thanks Nicola
Magical Felix. Just had to shell out for a new PC, so no chance of an iPad right now
