How long is too long?

Oh, the possibilities with the innuendo in the subject.......

On a serious point, I've got to a point where I am wondering how long a piece of erotic fiction should be? Most of my bits of work clock around the 6,000 to 10,000 words mark.

Trying to remember the audience in all this, I'm thinking that this is on the long side. I'm keen on character development as well as bumping uglies and I wouldn't want to sacrifice too much of one to bring the size down.

I'm still learning what work and doesn't so and I want to improve so I thought I'd get some other views, what do you think? Can anyone provide some advice?
