I, me or myself?

A number of writers get these confused. The problem with these pronouns is that often the correct one sounds wrong. We grow up speaking in a certain way and often that causes confusion when we write and ought to be correct.

In grammatical language, I is the first person, subject pronoun singular. We have to blame Latin for all this trouble, as this part of grammar follows the so-called nominative and accusative cases. but I can't go into that here.

'I' says something about the writer. For example, "I played with my dildo."

Where this can be confusing is where the pronoun is used with the the verb 'to be.'

For example:

"Who borrowed my dildo?!"

"Oh yes, sorry. It was I."

Most people say "it was me, but this is wrong, because I is the subject of the verb 'was.'

"In the same way, it is correct to say, "Are you and I going out tonight?" I is the subject of the verb 'going.'

As a check, when you're talking about yourself and another, imagine you were alone.

So some people say, "Me and John went to the movies together." But if John wasn't there, you wouldn't say, "Me went to the movies." It should be "John and I went to the movies together."

In contrast, Me is the first person, object pronoun singular.

You could say it is opposite to the pronoun I, as it is the object of the verb.

For example:

"What did she do with her dildo?"

"She gave it to me."

Or you might say, "Cum in me baby!"

In each case Me is the object of the sentence.

In general, I think most people use 'Me' correctly but more often than not also use Me, when they mean I.

So, what about myself?

"I want to let my hair down, so I can be myself." In this sentence I am the subject and the object of the sentence. We call this a reflexive pronoun and in the first person it is 'Myself.' Essentially it's when you do something to you.

"I played with myself, all night long."
I wash myself in the shower, sprinkling the hot water over my pussy."

You don't use it like this:

"Myself, I would do it this way..." and you don't say

"If it was myself, I would take the Lambo!" and never say

"Please contact myself, if you want assistance.

As a corollary to myself, it's worth pointing out the other use of this pronoun. For example, you can use myself to stress a point.

"I myself wrote that story!" This is perfectly correct, even though it sounds a bit clumsy.

Hope this was useful

It was indeed Danny! Interesting how correct grammar can sound clumsy or artificial especially while writing conversation in the context of fiction; especially in erotica, when the writer is trying to build sexual tension without his/her characters sounding like 1950's newsreaders!!
Thanks for the brush up, Danny.
