date night for me usually involves non-leaf blower tools, but hey, i'm game. smile

Black and Decker wants to talk to you about their spokesperson job.
Quite true, no one was prepared for this. Living in the USA, l think the response is about a D+ if you use school grading. Too slow, too unorganized and chaotic, not uniform in material, and too politicized.

I do think in the future a better presidential administration can use this response to know how to do a much better job.

Currently, states have to do too much fending for themselves when it comes to protective equipment, tests (especially the newest tests). States have been competing with one another to purchase equipment and medicine from both domestic and foreign companies and governments. In the past, the federal government did that and states got what they needed from the feds. But not under Mr. Loves His Own Image Trump.

In the USA, we have a president who actually does not understand what his legal limitations on power are, nor the leadership he is supposed to take in a crisis. He flip flops on his actions and is clearly in over his head. And Trump often does not follow science, the advice of expert doctors.

With states not having much coordination and leadership from the federal government, there is no telling how long Covid-19 could keep popping up with hot spots.

I feel an organized, effective response could've resulted in fewer deaths, a shorter pandemic, and less economic damage.
I'm tired of working from home. I want to go to the gym because I like working out around people, I'm social. I love to go to bars and clubs and it's driving me stir crazy. And I have skin cancer that must be dealt with.

Our doofus governor is opening things up, but I don't think we're ready. And Covid-19 has actually spiked upwards again since he's done that.

I don't understand the idea of "owning a house as an investment" because it's so completely illiquid. Yeah, I might buy a house for $200k, then halfway through my mortgage it's suddenly "worth" $280k. But that money isn't something I can use unless I sell the house or take out a lien or something. Then I do what? Buy another house for the same value? I'm not seeing how any money is "made" here.

Owning a home is pretty unrealistic for me. I don't know if I'll ever do it. It would make sense to me only if I could expect to pay it off within fifteen years.

Home payments are an investment, as you most likely can make a profit when you sell your home, getting your money back and more. While rent payments are just money spent, nothing more, it's gone.

Home mortgage payments give you tax deductions. Paying rent does not.

But if you move a lot, renting is probably a good option. You're not guaranteed to sell your home as soon as you want to. That's up to the market and how sellable your home is.
I generally can't stand to watch movies about prison. Just too depressing and negative. But The Shawshank Redemption is the exception. It's an outstanding movie and great story.

gina valentina. yum.

One of my favorites, too.
Like Beffer, plans of going somewhere on vacation are on hold for quite awhile after this economic shutdown for Covid-19. I'll need to work extra hard and long hours to get business going and make up for lost revenue.

Already, l've heard of several small locally owned businesses that will not be reopening. Government stimulus money meant for small businesses got sucked up by bigger businesses with political clout and connections.

This is one of my favourite films ever.

It's very raw.

The scene with a banana on the bed had me in fits of laughter.

It's deeply sad in the main but highly recommended.

Now seeing this is definitely on my to do list.

Progressives don't think bailing out banks is an economic stimulus, but that helping to create jobs and stop foreclosures is.

The Obama 2008 Bailout, bailed out top corporate executives and labor union leaders. Economic stimulus was ineffective and slow. In fact, doing nothing and the economy would've turned around just as fast.

Bailing out banks from the top, meant banks could sit on the money, earning interest, even if it was low. They doled out generous bonuses to CEOs and top execs, and they bought back corporate stock. Meanwhile, home foreclosures were massive and economically destructive.

What should've been done was to bailout the indebted homebuyers. The bailout money required to only pay off home loan debt. It should've been given to pay off home loans entirely or to pay them out of the worst of their debt, and given equally regardless of race, ethnicity, etc. The banks would still have ended up with the money, but the masses of home buyers would've actually benefitted. From the bottom up bailout would've been a solid and effective bailout and not a failure as the Obama bailout was.

And bailout money should've also been given to companies that were not on union contract on an equal basis. Many states were politically left out totally under Obama's plan.

That's the only one I watched in its entirety. Little M was into the books and watched the movies as they came out but I never got past the first story in either.

And it's "The Philosopher's Stone", please. "Sorceror's Stone" is meaningless, "Philosopher's Stone" is a key concept in stories about alchemists. I really hate how the publisher basically dumbed it down for Americans. Surely the US audience for a story like that is capable of learning a little medieval lore. Mercifully, the Canadian publisher kept the British original intact so that we also got the British title for the movie.

If they dumbed it down, no wonder it was such a dud. It wasn't very entertaining and not intriguing at all.
From that list, I haven't seen:

The Lion King

The Jesus Film (I've never even heard of it)

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Not sure, I saw a Harry Potter movie once... eh)

Shrek

Seven Samarai

The Avengers

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (Not sure on this one as I saw one Lord of the Rings movies and that was enough for me)

City of God (not familiar with it at all)
Fried shrimp, hush puppies, corn-on-the-cob, cornbread, and lemonade.
To cross my legs without seriously injuring myself.
Sorry y'all, for not being around much. I've been busy bowling, and getting tattoos, and massages with Governor Kemp of Georgia. I've been trying to teach him his ABC's and to read. He's not ready for multiplication tables yet.

So, hope everyone is okay.

I'm drinking locally brewed, growler craft beer. Ice cold!

Rumpy, line up the bar for everyone on me.

Cheers, y'all!

Saving pm's as drafts is not working anymore. If a pm doesn't send or a glitch or freeze interrupts while typing a long pm, it is lost.

Will you be able to reconstruct the draft option again?

The black message box does pop up saying you have a saved draft, but there is actually no saved draft.
Yay! Alyx! Life & Death is a superior story. You did such a tremendous job!

Congratulations, Alyx!

dyed the cat blue this morning. it looks good on her.

That inspired me. I just now dyed the neighbor's cat neon red with a bright green tail.

I'm still having coffee. And trying to lure more cats into my yard.

Here kitty, kitty...

Bicycling and running around the neighborhood on nice days. Stationary bike on rainy days. Wife and l have a home gym, so working out with weights and lots of crunches and sit ups. And glad l got that chin up bar. And we have a swimming pool that we can swim laps in.

I miss the gym where we're members, and hope it will be able to reopen.

Gaps extinguished!

Gav, it's all really working great now! As far as l can see, you've nailed it. If l come across anything l'll let you know. But it's looking really good.

Thanks for working so hard. You always get everything de-bugged. Great job!
Congratulations to StillUndecided! And yes, she's super nice and an excellent poet!

My devices and desktop are all working much better this evening than yesterday. The most important technical issues have greatly improved. After playing around, I have decided to run my devices all in 'classic' mode. A few small issues, but it's working

So, how about a Jack and Coke on the rocks, please? Y'all have a great evening.

I have to agree with Buzz. I liked the old format much better. This one is cumbersome. I miss being able to black box more than one person on my friends' list easily. Now I can't do that on the desktop version either without actually going into their profiles which ruins a 3 way, via black boxing (instant messaging). Before the change on my desktop I could hover my mouse over someone's name and I had the drop box options...private message, poke, instant messaging, etc.
When I use my phone now the pictures and words are so large it's distorted. When I tried black boxing (instant messaging) the keyboard on my phone covers what I'm typing in the black box. So for me, using my phone is useless and that was how I was on lush half of the time. It makes lush much less more appealing. I've stopped using my mobile device altogether.

Hi Barb, this link will let you click the box to disable the new style, and get back to the previous 'classic' Lush style. There may still be some issues, but Gav is working on getting them all fixed. It will all probably be smoothed out very soon.
