I would like to be able to use the site font modifying codes in my personal details.

you already can - just look at the red bar, right next to your mail icon and it says 'online' - click it and it says 'away'. simple as that.
You can also go to Account --> Settings --> Online status "Who can see you" makes people unable to see you online and away. Sometimes you just want to be completely gone.
