Oh they are both such good stories V.

Only once and then the second ending was never properly written. In my 'The Moment You Knew," competition entry the plot started by meeting the embodiment of lust, a goddess, in a bar. And being a love story of course she was turned down for the love interest, "the moment I knew," as required by the competition rules.

I have an alternative ending for that story in which lust triumphs over love. One day perhaps I should publish that, some may find that more erotic!!

Hye realised you dont like a story a while after it was published?
Oh yes, often characters in my stories have links with lush friends. Sometimes they will know (like it was pretty obvious who the Irish backpacker called Susie in my last competition story was based on) and sometimes they don't.

Hye written a story on lush that is mostly autobiographical?

Thanks for the nod!

Those cookies are adorable. I may have to add those to the ones I was planning to make with my youngest when she is down here for Thanksgiving next week. We already have plans to make these:

I am finding my concentration waning...more tea please! Thanks!!

Oh they are great and thanks for the recipe. I love to bake and indeed desserts, inherited this from my mum and paternal grandmother. It is interesting to hear you call them cookies, I would call them biscuits.

In my recent co-authored story with Hannah (PalindromeRedux) about the language perils of trans-Pacific dating, called Butch Cassidy and the Vegemite Kid, I awoke one morning to see that Hannah had added the following words to the draft about the first taste of Vegemite:

"Not you, goofball! I meant this godawful Vegemite. I need filling American food like biscuits and gravy with sweet tea.”

Which brings me sadly to "biscuits." How can any country mess that up? In my revered homeland biscuits are warm and flaky, made with buttermilk. There Annie explained, they are flat, usually sweet more cookie-like. The things I ended up suffering for love!

I had never really known before Hannah wrote that that biscuits was a language difference between North America and down under. But they look good whatever they are called.

And Phil I also didn't know about the Aussie farmer declared his little farm (75 sq km... 29sq miles) to be independent (and himself to be a prince) - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principality_of_Hutt_River . Mind you I have always thought Western Australia might benefit from separation.

Remarkable what you learn on lush. Have a good day, I have seen your future and Wednesday morning will be good, I promise. Coffee please.

Hello V2 (that's Vanessa and Verbal for those of you not privy to my insane brain) Hugs to Curvy, TG, Rumps and everyone else up there that i cant see...

Carl, i think i gained a pound just looking at those delish donuts. Which brings me to a question... is it donuts, or doughnuts... hmmm. Once again.. my brian..

Just submitted The Gifted - Part Two. If it gets approved it will be my 50th story on here. Yay!

Stay warm Nessa... if it will help warm you up, it's currently 95 here.

Its technically friday for me.. no work tomorrow...

Evening all, hot and smoky down under.

And the weather was like that too with the bush fires giving Sydney the worst air quality in the world, a barely believable 2344 compared to Kolkata’s 999, according to the real-time Air Quality Index, with safe levels sitting at between 34-66.

I have to google to covert 95, Tam, but the day here was slightly cooler at 33 degrees centigrade.

Hope you stay warm Vanessa, would happily export some of our heat.

Congrats on your 50th story, I had not realised Tam, will have to read more. But I have read The gifted, Part Two and it is fabulous really well done. I would thoroughly recommend all three stories in the series, Tam at her best

An evening beer would be good, take care everyone.

Happy Saturday everyone!

and Mcping? That sounds like a hidden menu item at mcdonalds.

I hope everyone is having a great day.
On a random note Sim wrote a story about a bar and it was really good

In it some chick accuses the bartender of watering down drinks..lol ( I thought only this place did that )

I need to get my writing mojo back I tried yesterday to write some and ended up in the chat room on here somehow instead?
How did that happen I don't even really like the chat room..lol

Coffee please

Oh this makes my day Vanessa. Story of our lives, came to lush to write and ended up in a chat room?

I have started another story and made a little more progress. And if you haven't already you should check out my co-written story with PalindromeRedux, the wonderfully titled Butch Cassidy and the Vegemite Kid.

And most certainly check out Sim's story too, I agree with Vanessa it is really good.

A beer to end the day on this hot spring afternoon.

I don't enter every competition and, even recently, have had entries not even make the top 10. Nothing technically wrong with the story, it just didn't fit or was eclipsed by other great entries. There are no guarantees.

As sprite says, it's not about being in the club it's about the merit of each story and how it fits the theme of the comp. A lot of thought goes on behind the scenes to pick topics that will challenge writers and produce a variety of imaginative entries. That was demonstrated beautifully in the Horrorween competiton where it wasn't all blood and gore. We had zombies, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, gargoyles, spells, magic, mystery, history, steampunk, intrigue... and trees!

Excluding one group or another wouldn't be my first choice to celebrate the diverse nature of authors' imagination in our competitions, but neither am I averse to a no-mod (bearing in mind there are people who have been mods and are still active storytellers... are they excluded too? And what about people who make another account to appear "rookie"? Tricky to make a level playing field) or all-mod (judged by a select panel of non-mods) competition, as that might be a lot of fun, and give the judging panel a break.

I said to Rachel in a private email this afternoon in what I thought was my last word on the subject that "nothing should detract from the thought that the lush competitions are the best thing online for erotica writers. So well run and so much fun and that point should be repeated again and again."

I had convinced myself that I wasn't going to say anymore, but sadly my friend I must.

A no-mod competition is a bad idea as it misses the point about what a competition is about. If I was standing in second place alongside Martin and Vanessa in the recent Horror competition excluding mods, it would mean so much less to me the 5th place in an open competition. To use a cricket analogy that may be wasted on our North American friends I don't want to star in the second eleven if I can play in the first eleven.

I know I shouldn't speak for the non-mod writers, but knowing me I will. Please dont turn the request to think about how feedback might be given to newbies into a lets restrict the competition, there is no joy in that route. And additionally what exactly is the point of an all-mod competition, are the rest of us supposed to turn up at the writing coliseum to watch who shreds who with linguistic barbs. Entertaining maybe, but edifying? Is it compulsory, does Nicola have to enter, can I be a judge (well I like to participate;) yes there are all sorts of silly questions.

As I said in a previous post, 'Please don't go changing too much, but I do think some mechanism of feedback to newer writers is good.'

And finally it never occurred to me having won the Pride competition that I should sit out the Kinky Fetish one. And I am thrilled that it never occurred to Mags either to sit out the Horror one as she won the Kinky Fetish competition. That just seems weird. Okay I am done, you all have a great Saturday.

Love Annie
My brief thoughts, I have some sympathy with Meagananne1986, the only downside of the competitions is that you can feel the absence of feedback. I know that in my first competition entry last December I wondered how to understand the results.

Getting an RR outside the top 10 helped (I have chosen to see that as 11th, smiles,) so maybe the idea of rookie awards has merit. Though was I truly a rookie even then? Have published about 8 stories elsewhere and a handful here before the competition.

To be honest I adore the competitions and have felt like the competitions are the thing that is improving my writing and letting me enjoy new writers. Every competition I have been introduced to people I haven't read before and every competition there are stories I adore out side the top 10. Sometimes I think oh that story should be rated higher, but the lovely thing about this site is it is relatively bias free.

And although I still think of myself as a bit of a rookie when it comes to competitions, well I am still in my rookie year, I have loved the feedback, the increasing number of good authors who comment on my work and the sense of progress with placings, apart from the Notorious story, of 11th, 10th, 7th, and 5th.

The observant amongst you will have noticed I left one off that list. Oxford Street won the Pride competition which was the most wonderful support my writing had ever had. I would have truly loathed it if there had been restrictions on who could have entered that competition. This isn't a horse race which needs handicapping, it needs to be a true challenge.

And in particular I would expect mods who enter to do well, as I hope (and it has been my experience) mods are selected as they can write.

Please don't go changing too much, but I do think some mechanism of feedback to newer writers is good.
Morning all, well it is gone mid-night here so it is Friday morning. Glad your migraine is gone Vanessa.

Congrats to all the regulars (and the irregulars) in the story competition, there were many many fabulous entries. I am thrilled to be between Curvy and Laura, and would love a Beaver's Breath in celebration.
Congratulations to the 50 or so authors who entered, just fabulous to see the new with the more established writers. There were, are there always, are some brilliant stories outside the top 10.

Thanks to Nicola and the organising and judging team, you, as always, do a fabulous job. This was a totally fun competition and I loved being part of it.

To my fellow members of the top ten, well done, I loved every one of your stories. A personal vote of thanks to those that commented so warmly on my story. I was thrilled with your comments and I love the EP that as came with the fifth placing.

Now Curvy, Darkside, Wannabe, and Saucy, your stories were totally stunning, so very well done. Congrats all four of you.

In particular to Mags who is now, for us newer authors, our gold standard for writing. Such an evocative piece of writing.
Monday evening in the land down under where climate denial is a viable political strategy.

And the NSW Rural Fire Service has warned that Tuesday's bush fire risk for the Greater Sydney and Greater Hunter areas is set to be "catastrophic." To think it is not yet officially summer.

It is the first time the Sydney region has been rated at that level since the new fire danger ratings were introduced in 2009. People in areas at risk are advised to head to larger towns, shopping centres or facilities away from bushland areas. Schools in high risk areas will also be closed on Monday and Tuesday. 70 fires raged through NSW on Friday and Saturday, destroying more than 150 homes in conditions described as "apocalyptic" in some places.

We should be fine, it is the urban fringes that are most at risk. Though fire did enter Canberra a few years ago, destroying 500 houses.

I hope all is well with everyone. And if Sprite were to turn up at our emergency department having fallen from heels still wearing handcuffs and a blindfold, well lets just say we have seen stranger.

I will take a beer to start my evening.
Good morning all, coffee for me on this Sunday morning. Hope you weekend is going well.

With summer almost upon us and eyes are turning to the beach, spare a thought for the other side of an Australian summer. This is a brutal start to the bush fire season, with 72 fires burning in New South Wales alone of which 36 are uncontained. There have been already been deaths and homes destroyed.

Sometime you see a story title you just have to read, 'snow dildos ..' is one such title.

Thanks Vanessa for your kind words on Hannah and my story, Frisson and Fusion. There will be jokes in our next collaboration, promise.
Wouldn't you know it. Over 30 degrees every weekday, and so we plan on the beach. Saturday dawns and the expected high is 18 and 22 for the weekend days.

Must be God's way of telling me to take an interest in college football which is, I have discovered much to my surprise, available on my subscription TV service in Australia.

Either that or do some writing. Thanks to those who have commented on my latest story Frisson and Fusion, a collaboration with PalindromeRedux. Surprisingly, for those that know Hannah, not a single joke was made in our story but we are making up for that with a humorous piece about trans-Pacific dating that should be complete in the next week or two.

Coffee for me to start my Saturday.

Blackpool or Scarborough? It's a tricky one...

Annie

I like this, being immediately minded to answer the question with Sydney and the great Barrier Reef versus Perth and Broome, is that even a contest? For me I have never been to Blackpool or the East Coast of the US, so I vote East in the UK and West in the US and Canada.

And of course East in Australia and in NZ too.

The other Annie
Hey all. First trick and treater just arrived at 6 pm oh a hot 30 degree Halloween evening.

One competition story that may not be across the line vote wise is Good Night Miss Ford. Can those who haven't got vote, it so deserves to be in the contest.

Annie
Oh I did not know this page existed.

So sorry for my tardy public praise of a story you know I think is just fabulous.

Still months after I read it in a Sydney summer's day, it is evocative for me. It is as good a pure piece of writing as I have ever read here, the plot is not substantial and so like a still-life painting all I see is your craft. The quality of the writing is just brilliant and I still refer people to this story as an example of how they should write, the last as a couple of weeks ago.

So well done Ayla, you are a star.

Annie
Do you know what is more scary than vampires?

Yes it is the dreaded koala vampire:

As soon as I saw this I realised I had missed a story opportunity. Lush's very first Koala Vampire Story. Not so fast I hear Ping say, I have a draft ...

Anyway the point of this post was the little koala, standing about a meter high and part of an outdoor art exhibition in Sydney's Gardens. Given Sprite's challenge for hometown pics, I thought what could be more Australian than koalas like this one:

Well there is of course a koala and two Sydney icon's, the Opera House and Harbour Bridge:

What do you mean photographic cliche? You want cliche I will give you cliche:

It will be the 31st in 8 hours, so I will be keeping an eye out for Killer Koalas. But right now I will read Susie's story, last minute or what. A beer would be good. Loving the competition stories and thanks to those who have read mine.

Good day, dear Cynthia. Hi, Scott too.

I've got Inspirations up and active over on 'sacre bleu'. Now it's time to have a touch of the heavenly nectar from BB here in the Awesome Bar.

One cuppy java if you please.

How's everyone doing with the competition. Is anyone needing votes to be officially a contestant? I'll have to check that in a few minutes.

Edit: Just as a fascinating side note, to me anyway. Has everyone noticed that the Green Man made an appearance in two contest entries? Must mean that someone around here is rather inspiring, don't you think?

As one of the guilty parties who managed to insert Green Man in my story, I should point out that the role said Green Man played was not one you should necessarily aspire to. I would say more but that would give the plot away to those (hint hint) who are yet to read my competition story. But as many of you have and left wonderful comments, I am sure you get why.

I did toy with getting your name into the story, but couldn't think how a Lorenzo would fit into a (with one exception) all woman story. So I had to content myself with including an deviant Irish backpacker called Susie.

Well done Ping I am seriously impressed. Every contest I try to read all the stories before closing date. Only once have I succeeded, though I generally get through about 80 percent of them. Some seem on the cusp, given the number of comments, of getting 10 votes and deserve a nudge if you have the time to look.

Spring has hit with a vengeance, days over 30 degrees a, new bikini purchased and its first beach outing last Saturday. Hope all is good, with you all. I will have coffee as it is 8am on Tuesday. Take care.
Evening all, bedtime for me. Saturday was gloriously hot in my part of the world, and it was bikinis and the beach smile

I hope you all (Laura excepted of course) enjoyed the first semi final.

Just a wonderful set of stories from the bar regulars, including Ping's which I just read. Don't worry Green_Man, ten votes will be coming your way. It was all I could no not to mention you specifically in my story, you will have to read to find out why. Have a great weekend in your part of the world. Bye for now.

Good morning I'm the first one here today so it my turn to get Bertha up and running. I've rinsed and de-sludged her and put the kettle on for hot tea and cocoa. Give me a moment and I'll look for a cake to defrost. I'll even be kind and rinse out the mugs today. I've finished my story all I am doing now is final editing and I've started to read some of the comp stories. I will try to get to as many as I can today. I hope you have a great day.

Well done Tonya on getting a story done when there is a lot on your mind. I hope everything goes well for you. There has been a rush of entries this last 24 hours and I will have to find the time to read some more, loved Vanessa and Catherine's entries which I read today. Actually I have enjoyed them all so far.

My special thanks to those who have commented so nicely on my entry. This story theme was new for me and I so enjoyed creating something people like.

Oh enjoy the holiday Laura and be assured some of us have been watching the rugby. NZ were so impressive against Ireland, which is more that can be said for Australia against England.

I will take a tea at the end of my Wednesday, and maybe even a slice of cake before I head to bed.
Set rat poison. Refreshing drink. Losing consciousness, rat still scampering.
