I know, Luca! I just woke up yesterday morning with a fully-fledged idea from nowhere! I'm a thousand words in now and hope to get a good bit more done today. We'll see!

That literary synchronicity of yours gave me a shiver too. Those lines described the moon over the sea uncannily. Brr! I haven't read the Rime of the Ancient Mariner for years. Another thing to put on my endless to do list.

I'll grab another coffee here and get you a decaff tea while I'm at it. smile

Go for it I say Curvy.

You won't be leaving it as late as the Welsh rugby team. After Australia and Ireland managed to get knocked out Saturday (on which subject Susie and I have exchanged messages) it was good to see Wales through.

So who is the bar rooting for (dear God that is an expression that doesn't translate well down under) in the semi-finals. I guess I know where Laura and Curvy stand, but I guess the rest of us are looking ahead four years to the next World Cup.

Thanks for all those that have commented on my competition story. For those that haven't you know what to do. Is this sufficient incentive
Thursday afternoon and it is warm, 28 today with fire bans in place. Definitely have winter behind us and the summer stretching ahead. I will take a beer, certainly the weather for it.

I haven't dropped in for a few days as I have been writing. I have never attempted a horror story before and, after posting my Horrorween tale yesterday, I have been overwhelmed by the reaction. Thanks to those who have voted, I really appreciate your support. For the first time I have not put any tags against the story so as not to foreshadow the plot.

Now I shall have to catch up with the other competition entries and indeed other recently published stories

Annie
Evening all, Saturday is almost done in this part of the world. I dare not ask about the two pitchers, I don't think I would understand the response.

Summer seems on pause, after a couple of days in the 30's it has cooled, and my bikinis are back in the closet.

Thanksgiving is different in Canada, who knew?

Well I had better get on with my spring Halloween story; yes I know that it is awkward, but such is the life of writing topic appropriate down under stories. I am about 2/3 through my tale of horror and well the end is in sight smile

A tea to end the day Curvy and enjoy the dance workshop.

Hey all, will say its been a hell of a weekend. Milik had to work Saturday which really sucked eggs. Seem like the day would never end. Finally he got home and we were both so tried, we went to bed probably the earliest ever. wanted to get a lot done on Sunday. Got up early got on the road to get my nails done. Came out and went to the gas station and noticed our new car had been hit. Some inconsiderate asshole hit our car, and just drove off. Looser... Then a very dear friend lost the battle to cancer. So been a pretty sober day today. They say when it rains it pours. Trying to decorate for Halloween and just seem not to have tiOme for anything. Just in one of those moods to just let it all sleep by. Coffee please, trying to stay awake. These hours Milik has are really starting to get to me. He is at work more than he is home. We are averaging, 3 maybe 4 hours together a day. Time to win the lottery so he can retire...Thanks everyone for listening to me ramble. XO

Oh is sounds like such a sad spot you find yourself in.

A big virtual hug for you. One of the benefits of the internet, you can get a hug from over 12,000 kilometres away.

I will join you in a coffee, Tuesday afternoon here and it feels okay, so I think yours might improve on Monday too.

Hey Vanessa, am so looking forward to hearing about your Halloween decorations. I am getting the feeling that this is much bigger in North America that in Australia.

I have started my competition story, 1000 words in, have the plot clear and just need to find the time to pen 4000 more words. After hitting 30 degrees at the weekend, summer is now playing coy and the days are under 20.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child tomorrow, so excited smile

You should celebrate Beltane then.. Another celtic festival on 30th April. There is a huge fire festival in Edinbhrgh every year with the Green Man.

Thanks you, inspirational, plot nailed. Now I only have to find the time to write it.
Quote by sprite

The announcement say under 5000, so I am assuming under 5000.

Under 5000, okay so that means 4999 words from me then Rachel.

Though, as it pays to have a plot in mind before committing to write, lets just say I am not yet as enthusiastic as Vanessa.

I see from the announcement that the Celts are thought to have been the founders of what is now known as "Halloween", a large festival called Samhain which was a celebration of the harvest and the start of winter.

End the cultural hegemony of the north I say.

Rise up brothers and sisters of the south, end hemispherism, and lets celebrate the day before the start of winter on the right day, namely April 30th.

Or do I just have to fall into line and think of plot twist for southern ghosts having a preference for spring over autumn.

Yeah, that would get priority over spiders from me. Big dinosaur fanboi here.

And I actually started a comp entry this afternoon, by which I mean I conceived of a main character and wrote four or so paragraphs. And I think I know where it is going both story-wise and sexually. So that part is taken care of. Now it's my usual problem: Time to write and edit the hell out of it. And this weekend ain't looking good. Got to fix a dishwasher and probably do some yardwork since we finally have a decent weather weekend (last weekend was writeoff for doing anything but getting wet).

More vino, please. Day is winding down.

Good morning, Saturday has dawned cooler after Friday being the first day to hit 30 degrees sine we broke the back of winter.

Oh I am so impressed that you have started writing your competition entry, I am kind of struggling to get ideas to coalesce. Does struggling with writers' block count as a horror story. Or the darker corners of my dating life. And 1 November doesnt seem so far away, particularly as I have another story 70 percent done that I will need to nail first.

I hope all is good with every one as it will be if you avoid the snakes and the even more terrifying Snakebite drink.

Long weekend for us this weekend and I am so excited as I am off to Melbourne to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Going with two of my former school friends, the ones with who I spent much of our teenage years reading and talking about the books. The last Harry Potter book came out just after my eighteenth birthday. The show is 6 hours long with a three hour intermission, just enough time to hit one of Melbourne's fabulous bars.

Coffee for me, it is after all 7:30 in the morning and even by Australian standards early for alcohol. Susie, just one word. Japan.
Quote by twooldtwocare
Like Fuzzy said, some great college football this weekend, though all college football is great compared to no college football. Don't forget the games tonight. They actually have some good ones for a Friday night.

I looked and was surprised to discover that among the 20 or so sports channels that seem to be necessary as part of our cable service are ones that show American College Football. Who knew there was an audience for this in Australia?

Talking of football and at the risk of confusing you all, it is the first of two 'Superbowl' days in Australia today. Which one is the real Australian 'Superbowl' depends mostly on where you live. To make sense (well a little sense) of this there are four football codes played by the young all the way to men's and women's professional leagues in Australia, which is remarkable in and of itself given the relatively small size of the population.

Soccer is one obviously, as is rugby union where all the focus is on the World Cup taking place in Japan at the moment.

The other two are Rugby League (RL - Grand Final next week) and the more unusual Australian Rules football (AFL) which is played nowhere else other than Australia (only Gaelic football comes close and that is a different game, though Australia and Ireland do play a hybrid international every year.) Now whether you follow AFL or RL has historically been geographical driven, with AFL originating in Melbourne and being the preferred in Adelaide and Perth too. In Australia RL on the other hand originated in Sydney and is also preferred in Brisbane.

So today sees the AFL Grand Final being contested by Richmond (from Melbourne) and an upstart Sydney team (Greater Western Sydney.) Who will win? Who cares, after all I am a Sydney girl. For the record I should point out this is the men's Grand Final; in the Woman's professional AFL Grand Final Adelaide defeated Carlton earlier in the year.

Have a great weekend everyone, it is warm and gorgeous in Sydney this Saturday morning and I am heading outside.
Maybe an early gin for me this lovely spring Thursday afternoon.

Oh and I will certainly take a raspberry lemonade cupcake Laura. And weren't the All Blacks good on the weekend, way more impressive than the Wallabies.

Now I see I have a lot of reading to do, Darkside, Greenman, WannabeWordsmith, Vanessa, sandy2moon and Simplicity. All followed authors who I love who have posted in the last 24 hours. And I want to finish Curvy's Tobias Series and start techgoddess Luca and Katherine's series.

And maybe write again. Thanks so much to those of you who commented on my poem, it is so rare for me to write poetry and as you have been so kind, I may do it again. Cheers all.
Hi all, coffee for me this Wednesday lunchtime, as I am supposed to be working.

Thanks so much Vanessa for your kind words about my poem and to others who have commented so kindly on it. I have only written a handful of poems, but with this generosity I am inspired to write more.

But first there is the serious matter of the potential Vanessa competition, I am so entering.

To get ahead of you other literary butterflies, I have a horror story (surprise, surprise,) the Loch Nessa monster to be precise. Nessa as a kind of Wickerwoman which will get Under Your Skin. There might be some Unkindness of Ravens but Scotland is a Wild Country only suitable for Dog Soldiers; no Urban Ghost Story this, what with The Dead Outside including Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi snatching bodies. Is that the right amount of Scottish horror movie allusions, Hannah, or a tad over the top.

Now when it cums to the sex scene, well all those druid sacrifices throwing nubile virgins from The Road to Anywhere into the Loch are key, as they turned out to be Nessa's Lesbian Pussy from Dimension X. They won't be spending Eternity in Your Arms, butt hers. It is not widely known that Nessa has tentacles, which this intrepid writer will foreshadow turn out to be the perfect accessory for a lesbian orgy.

Like Vanessa does, opportunities for Scottish humor will be taken (What is worn under that kilt? Madam it is all in perfect working order.) The judges are sure to be impressed with the classical allusions to The Scottish Play. Nessa has a pet Scottish terrier called Spot. Though when Nessa gets all Lady Macbeth and says, "Out out damn spot," it is because she is a Prom Slut and doesn't want a dog in her menagerie of pussies.

Dear God I my have outstayed my welcome. Ping is moaning, "enough, enough." Perhaps another coffee to go and I will get back to work.

Have a great Wednesday.
Evening all, almost 7 pm Tuesday for those that are behind the times. I would adore a Chardonnay to start the evening.

Seems I have missed much the last couple of days, been busy but will be catching up on my reading. Would recommend Vanessa's poems to those that haven't read them yet.

Hope all is good in the falling North, the Southern spring continues to be warm. The beach is a calling though the swimming is a handful of weeks away.

Next competition? I have just regathered my breath from the last.

Congratulations to all the Rumps regulars decorating the top 10.. a finer shower of reprobates you'd be hard pressed to find

I'll have a beer since it is Friday

So true Susie. Congrats to all the authors of course, but particularly those who hang out here.

There must be something inspiring in the cheap alcohol, as hanging out here has certainly has improved by writing. I will take a celebratory beer, even though it is not yet midday on Saturday.

The old music is great, quickly ducking to avoid the vinyl Frisbeeing my way.

And Luca I echo Ping, 'That clip is if frickin' great! I've never heard of this show, but this skit was brilliant. Love, Love, LOVE IT!" Actually I don't know how I missed this, it was on ABC in May this year, when I was away that is true, but I presume that was a rerun.

Have a great weekend. Go Australia (world cup rugby this afternoon) and then NZ versus SA, which will be the best game of the preliminary rounds.

For my North American friends; did you know the USA has won a Rugby World Cup? In 1991 the USA won the first women's rugby world cup. The only other winners of the women's cup are England (twice) and New Zealand (5 times.)
Well done to all the authors of a fabulous group of stories!

Congrats to Saucymh, Dark_Apollo, Milik_the_Red and the other runner ups.

Well done to Nicola at the team behind another wonderful competition.
Evening all, I hope you Thursday goes well. Mine did and it is almost Friday in this Great Southern Land. I will have a beer to end the day.

Spring has been interrupted by a deluge these last two days. But sadly the rain fell mostly on the coast and not inland on NSW's drought stricken farm land. Even in Sydney we are on Level One water (limited garden watering) restrictions and it is not even summer.

The playoffs in the AFL and NRL continue, as if anyone outside of Australia knows what I am talking about. And it is almost time for the World Cup banter to start, the first game (oddly enough Japan versus Russia) kicks off tomorrow. I am expecting a bit of interest from our North American friends, after all Canada and the US are in the finals. I see you googling, checking what sport I am talking about.

I am so falling behind on my reading and I apologise to those (Luca and Techgoddess in particular) whose series I have not yet got to. Have a good day, after my beer I am heading to bed
Congratulations and well done Rachel.

You are a gem, so supportive to relatively new writers. So well deserved.

How about a system where my stories just have a 5 option, and all the others have 1-4? That couldn't be too hard, surely? ?????

Hold on, you haven't read the updated scoring memo closely enough.

It says all Annie stories are rated 5 automatically, not just your naughty ones.

The mod rules committee are currently meeting discussing an appeal by the Annas and Annes of the Lush world who are claiming they meet the Annie criteria. Whether they are true Annies can, of course, only be touch tested by running hands over their bums.

I am not sure a change in the scoring system would lead to much change in behaviour. And as a writer it is the comments rather than the votes that I find most helpful and useful. Like Milik and Buz I vote (5 of course) for leaving it as it is.
Afternoon all, well at 4:30 on a Friday afternoon I could sure use a G&T.

Oh Rump, our discussion on the Saints earlier in the week. The salary cap for AFL clubs is about 13 million, which compares to NFL of 180 odd. So yes the finances are way different. Interestingly it isn't so much the crowd size, but the TV and other financial rights. AFL has to compete with three other football codes in a market of under 30 million people. And the Melbourne Saints finished 14th in an 18 team competition and didn't make the playoffs which are happening now. So I wish the New Orleans one more success.

Have a great break Curvy. Hope you all have a great weekend. I must fond time to catch up on all the wonderful stories and poems. But the garden takes priority this weekend, spring growth and all that.

The New Zealand rugby team the All Blacks have touched down in Japan in anticipation for the 2019 Rugby World Cup. I am so excited. I already have game day/night parties booked in, the freezer and fridge are fast filling up with foods and drinks for this. It's gonna be a good'un.

We won the last 2 rugby world cups. The first ever team to win back to back. I'd be great if we can do it again and make history once more. I'm also looking forward to seeing the teams from the UK and how they play this time around, especially the Scots, Irish and Welsh. Those are some brilliant players.

Covefe. I need some, stat.

Peace out.

Oh I am pleased to see another one in here who is following the rugby. But to be honest isn't it a religion in NZ, as it is in Wales too isn't it Curvy?

By the way do you switch Curvy ... giggles, I mean between supporting Wales and Ireland? I have some NZ background in my genealogy and it is not beyond my father to find that emerging for him at World Cup time (usually coinciding with Australia's elimination.)

Curvy and I may have confused many with the Ashes discussion. The following is taken from the internet and explains the origin of the term. Explaining the rules of cricket is way to much information for the bar.

"The Ashes is a Test cricket series played between England and Australia. The Ashes are regarded as being held by the team that most recently won the Test series. The term originated in a satirical obituary published in a British newspaper, The Sporting Times, immediately after Australia's 1882 victory at The Oval, its first Test win on English soil. The obituary stated that English cricket had died, and "the body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia". The mythical ashes immediately became associated with the 1882–83 series played in Australia, before which the English captain Ivo Bligh had vowed to "regain those ashes". The English media therefore dubbed the tour the quest to regain the Ashes."

A coffee for me this Tuesday lunchtime. And a brownie if they are still around.

Thanks for all who have enjoyed my recent Annie flashes.

The latest is a tale of ballet and masturbation, all twirling feet and fingers I guess. God knows where I get these ideas from.

Well done fuzzy for saying that about Luca, he is indeed a wonderful wonderful writer.

I am, I must say in Ping and Luca's camp. on revealing identity. There is to me too much potential downside.

I am happy to help you celebrate but I take it Rump you aren't talking about this professional football team,

"The St Kilda Football Club, nicknamed the Saints, is an Australian rules football club based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia."

Have a great day everyone
Quote by curvygalore
Howdy, Buz!

Australia have retained the Ashes in a series of very strong performances. Now I have the Rugby World Cup to look forward to with great trepidation...

Need a pint, please, Rumps!

Thank you for point that out Curvy, this is indeed a day of celebration in Australia. Which is of course likely more that can be said about prospects for the World Cup.

Steve Smith is God, or even possibly greater, maybe even Don Bradman.

My only question Curvy is whether any of the other regulars other than you and I know what you are talking about.

I should also point out that the Australian women's team also hold the ashes.
Quote by Simplicity

Just want everyone to see... I’m ahead of Milik ... LOL .. Probably the only time it will ever happen, but it feels good!!! Hahahaha Sweet pea ,I love you...

Congratulations Simmie ... but do look above you the Deviant one is first.

August must have been indeed been a writing month Susie.

I will have a coffee this Monday lunchtime, colder today, winter doesn't want to be forgotten about just yet.
Afternoon all, it is Friday and I need a drink. I will start with a G&T and then we will see where we go.

I have been around and about, busy reading the many excellent stories and poems that are in the competition and the others many of you have published. And I turn my back for a day or so and more stories appear. Thanks for all those who have read my competition entry.

It continues to get warmer day by day usually in the low to mid twenties and I am almost at the point of extracting bikinis from the back of my closet.

Without wishing to reopen things, hugs Grace, I cannot imagine you mistreating anything. Congrats Milik and Simplicity in celebrating three years.

Well Curvy and Susie and maybe Laura (and anyone else who knows what I am talking about) when do we start the World Cup banter?

At the risk of ejection from the bar, one day, can one of you lovely people from the USA explain why college football is so popular. I can understand the NFL (understand in the sense of why not what, the rules seem a bit obscure) but why uni football? I have no idea for instance what current state my old uni's, Sydney University, sports teams are in.

You all have a great weekend.
Quote by sprite

Dogs are welcome too, as long as they behave themselves and don't try to eat any pussy... wait, that really didn't come out right...

Ah I feel a story germinating, tentatively titled, 'The Bitch that ate my pussy." The purrfect Annie tail, about the bite not being worse that the bark. Following Grace's message, it will be set in an establishment called 'Pussies Galore,' which may or may not be a strip club catering for pets. Leading to a duel with vibrators; will the pussy meet it's match or will the bitch sniff out her weakness and have her squirming like a cat on a hot tin roof ...

Hope everyone is having a great day, I will go read a few more stories having not yes completed my competition reading. Thanks to those who have read voted and commented on mine. A coffee for me as is lunchtime and a tad early for alcohol
Quote by curvygalore

I'll gladly get you another coffee, Sunny. Come and join me and Susie and anyone one else who wants to join us! smile

I will join you Curvy, and a coffee would be great this Sunday morning. It is officially the first day of spring though the flowers haven't waited, gardens are, if anything, past their spring best.

It is also father's day here in Australia. Why these dates differ from country to country is a mystery to me, but Happy Australian Father's Day to all you dads. Mine seems a tad less interested in my best wishes this year. Something about the new grand-baby he had on his knee, I am guessing.

Hope my Florida friends are staying safe. Cyclones and tropical storms are more a Queensland thing in Australia, and usually well north of Brisbane. As I obviously have way too much time on my hands, I looked it up and discovered that Sydney is on the same latitude as Phoenix and Atlanta in the US. And also the same latitude as Morocco, Curvy, which explains why we have a different view about what being cold in winter means.
It has just gone midnight, so it is Sunday here and I can join in the good mornings. I will have a beer to end the day.

Loving the competition stories though I have a few more to go. And with browncoffee and others having new stories I have a lot of reading on my plate. Fortunately after the driest August on record I am indoors as the last two days have been wet. Winter is gone I hope, spring is here and the promise of summer is on the horizon.

Hope everyone keeps safe, particularly those in Florida.

And one more for the road

I'll keep baking my regular amazing chocolate brownies until late September, does that work? Of course it won't seem like fall where I am until December.

I will have one of those delicious sounding brownies if there is one left, with my morning coffee. If they are available till fall (mind you, contrary as we Australians are inclined to be, fall is not a word that is used, autumn being the seasonal preference) then it only seems like fall where I am in May.

Mind you if there still one of those nice cannolis from Mysteria I could have one of those. Cannoli reminds me of an upmarket Sydney restaurant where the server said after I mentioned Italian, "Oh no, we aren't an Italian restaurant. We are a Sicilian restaurant."

I am still giggling over 'Hotel Lushafornia , you can get tased anytime you like, but you can never leave,' Scott, great line.

I am glad my small attempt at Lawn Porn was so well received but now might be the time to put it in the compost and go out side and actually cut the lawn which are displaying remarkably spring growth as we had our first spot of rain in ages.

Hope you all have a good Thursday. I am half way through it and, yeah, it is okay.

Happy birthday Catherine, hope you have a great day.

Got you a purrfect cake:

Quote by fuzzy1954

Welcome my friend Mysteria, I see "our welcome wagoneer" has pinched a cannoli from you

Sure hope to see you here more

I think Lawn Mower Porn is a untapped area of writing... May I say next competition???

Sending hugs to you Gill I know you have been very busy taking care of your parents, I hope others in here take note of what you have been doing

With this evening May I close with this song and yes Barkeep a tall cold pint please

Well as soon as you mentioned competition and lawn mower porn ideas ... The grass was always greener on the other side of the fence, thought Buz-cut, as he spied his newly married neighbour edging, edging her herbaceous borders to be clear. He was still Black and Deckered that his wife had trimmed his sails, smoked his grass, and run off with the Victor, the Victor lawn mower salesman, leaving him with nothing to ride on and only shears to keep the lawn tidy. John Deered him about a Bad Boy and when he gazed at her lying on the longing grass dressed in a blade of material running up her bum, he Hayter-ed to admit it but John had a point ....

Now I must run, duty calls
Afternoon all, I will have a coffee this Tuesday lunchtime.

I know this is an erotic site, but lawnmower porn is a bridge too far. Though to be fair the pics are a cut above Ping's lawnmower joke.

Those beers do look inviting, but with the pic posted at 6 am the timing didn't feel right.

Read another handful of competition entries which I really enjoyed. Great standard of writing in what I have seen so far. TCCarlson's Lips or Lipstick? could use some more votes to get above the 10 threshold.
