I have started a story... Whether I'll be able to finish it in time is quite another matter (and I'm not reading any in the comp before I get mine submitted - it'll just make mine seem crap hahahah)
I find them a bit overwhelming...
The times I have been in them, I find the conversation moves too quickly for me, there's too much going on and it's hard to have a conversation. I miss what people are saying to me and always feel ten steps behind what's going on... It's hard to have a proper chat!!

I don't really have much time just now to dive back in, although I know they're very popular with other lushies!

Okay, I'll give that a go later. Thanks for your help.

I wrote in a James Bond-ish accent in this one:

Natural Beauty

(I even recorded an audio of that one... For my sins... My accent is AWFUL!)

Yeah, I like it. I best get my phrase gun charged up.

Anyway, I'd like to ask a question. I'm writing a three-part story with each part consisting of about two and half thousand words. I've written in a Jamaican character and used Rastafarian dialect for his dialogue. There's not much of it, as he's not the central character, but I was wondering whether or not this would be acceptable for the site.

If it is, is there a thread anywhere in the forum where I can post some of the dialogue so people can give me their opinion and let me know whether they can understand it?

I've seen dialogue written that way a few times...

Why not post something in ask the readers or ask the writers?

I'm sure plenty people will be happy to help smile
My two made me breakfast in bed (which I don't like, I HATE crumbs in the bed!!!) still, I didn't mind today!!

Just hung out with the kids, baking and stuff... I also discovered that you can buy honey and ginger "lemsips" which are surprisingly palatable....

Now thinking I might have a medicinal beer smile

Apart from being loaded with the cold, I've had a good one!

Hope all the UK mums have too!

Congrats to all the winners and honorable mentions....there was some really exceptional work submitted. Be it a poem or story our personal preferences may vary but the quality of work pretty much blew me away. I knew damn well my entry wasn't going to beat out the poems mentioned but it was a blast writing and submitting it. And I got a shiny new badge too!!

Now go write something...I bet you can.

I will, soon I hope!!

I just went back to check... I really really liked your comp poem smile
I really enjoyed the last episode... I like Dianna so far (what have I seen her in? Was she in sex and the city, playing carrie's editor at vogue?)

Be interesting to see where this goes...

Congratulations to the winners and runners up.
I have taken the results of this competition as an indication that my belief that I could write reasonable poetry as a delusion, so I have removed all my poems from public view. I am not sure whether this is because they are technically flawed, or because they are just rubbish. I will publish mo more here.

Oh don't say that!! Your poems are excellent!!

You know, I've only been placed/mentioned in a comp once, but i do still enter them (though not for a while - I've not written anything for a while...)

I'm so pleased to see AvgBlkgrl win - I loved that one very much!! I managed to read quite a lot of the comp entries this time and I'm pleased to say that MOST of my favourites got a mention!!

Really well done guys! Congrats to everyone who placed and those who took part. I really enjoyed reading them!!

(next comp though, I don't think I should read ANY before I post my entry... it puts me off)
There aren't many positions I don't enjoy, but I get the most pleasure from cowgirl (as long as he's willing to take over when my stamina runs out!)

They're still showing for me on the comp page.

Ha! Yes they are!! For all the comps!

Bloody hell gav, that was fast!!!

(Yeah okay, I realise this must have actually happened a while back... My bad!)

I'd like it if once a competition has ended, all of the stories didn't disappear from the list.

It would be good to be able to go back through and read the other entries for posterity, but especially in a comp that's just ended when you've not managed to read all of the entries before they disappear - they're all lost now and while I will most likely manage the entries by my friends (eventually), the chances of me catching any others are very slim...

It's a bit frustrating...
I don't mind if a poem is sad or deep if it's well written and engaging. I do find it a bit depressing to see tons like that though.

I also like punctuation in poems - Call me old-fashioned but I think that not many writers can pull off missing full stops...

The categories are Erotic and Humour - I'm not sure that a lot of them really fall into that category though? (not that I've never submitted a few of those myself right enough)

In saying that, I have read some outstanding pieces here - especially Shylass, Frank_Lee, Laura Lee and Avgblkgirl... (to name some off the top of my head!)
Number 5 MUST be Mr Banks!!

(and I'd guess Dead Air, because you told me you read that recently - although you said it was by Ian McKewan hahah)
I'm getting a weird thing when browsing on my iPhone this evening. Never had it before but the forum pages are showing up all wonky...

This is what I see...

Can you elaborate? I read this 4 times and still don't understand (very long Sunday lunch yesterday...).

Ha!

Yes, what Liz said was what I meant. That you couldn't score more than one piece within a certain limit of time... I remember having to wait until the time limit passed to be able to score stories for the flash comp...
Oh cool!!! How exciting! I imagine this competition will encourage lots of people who wouldn't normally enter, which will be good to see!! Might even give this a crack myself smile

Hey Nicola, will Lush be able to drop the time limit on scoring for this one? I know with (I think) the flash erotica comp, it got really frustrating having to wait and wait for the limit to pass to score on stories? Just a thought...
One again, I never got to read as many of the comp entries as I'd have liked. I did read the winner though and have to say I loved it and I'm not surprised to see that it won!!

Congratulations to everyone who took part and those who placed or got mentions... Hopefully I can fill in the gaps and read the stories I missed!!

Well done!!
I would do an audio for you - if you want to hear my voice, I have lots of audios on my profile...

But on the statistics it would say 15 famous stories or 1 editors choice.

The badge just lets people know you have a famous story.

If it won't be added to your stats, you could always incorporate it into your bio?

I've seen people do that to draw attention to their EPs.

That would probably be a nice easy fix?

*************
I'm honoured to have gained 15 Famous Stories and also 12 Recommended Reads and even an Editor's Pick!
*************

Something like that would look great as part of your bio. I used mine to promote some of the audio recordings I've made for other writers...
Just apple click the image and you can copy the URL and click on the blue mountain icon (at your friend's wall) and paste in the link.

If the image is saved to your desktop, click the yellow mountain icon and select the file you wish to post.

(remember that if it's a .gif you're limited in size if uploading from your computer, but not if pasting a link to an online image)

Does that make sense? Ping me if it doesn't smile
