Thank you to those of you who have said I'm one of your favorites. I'm always looking for more to add to this list.

I told him on page one he was my favorite.....

You're right... I found the post. In fact, that pissy Irish cunt is mentioned a few times on PAGE 1!!!

I first appear on page 5 when Sprite mentioned me. I know I made page 11 thanks to Chuck. I get why some get their feelings hurt when they aren't mentioned.

If I'm ROYALTY then I'm the Princess Margaret of Lush Stories!!! (The BRITS will get that!!!) Basically, everyone hated her! (I kinda fancied her, actually, but she HATED Irish people!!) SHE REALLY DID! (I so would have, though...)

And LENINGRAD only started picking up HITS after a gravelly-voiced fucker read it out loud...

Princess Margaret of Lush Stories... how quickly you forget those of us who have loved you in silence. You have RRs and EPs and you think for one millisecond you're not loved? Really Steph... you are quite silly. You are an amazing writer of both prose and poetry and you think you're not loved?

Seeing your name in this thread as someone's favorite is nice... I've seen my name a few times, and I've felt a bit hurt when some I thought for certain would mention me didn't. However, my followers and my scores tell me I'm doing well.

You my dear Irish friend are doing amazingly well despite it taking until pg 11 for your name to first appear. Verbal is right... you are Lush Royalty.
Okay... so this isn't a so much a case of hacking... but rather a necessary update that forces us all to update our password. No worries. It's an easy fix on our part and thank you so much Gav for taking care of this for us.
I always prefer happy endings... but if a sad ending is well written, then that's really all that matters.

Chuckepoo: "I meant THE OTHER STEPH..."

Me: "... ... ..."

As one of the most beloved authors here... why do you care what page you are on. The votes you get, the awards you've earned, the fact so may have sung your praises should mean a lot more.

And for the record... I think you should have been on page 1. At least Chuck put you and I in the same list of favorites so I too am flattered.

Time to enjoy Steph's latest masterpiece.

I understand why someone would "follow" a writer, since you get notifications when a new story or poem comes out. But is there some purpose to "following" someone who does not write? I often see that and I can't quite figure out if I am missing something. Any insight, anyone?

It's possible they are following the "non-writer" because they know them and don't want to miss when they are ready to post a new story. I'm following a few who rarely write. However, I'd hate to miss a story from them.

At the risk of opening up a can of worms with regard to Recommended Reads (RRs), a couple of thoughts. It possible that I haven't thought them through and that there are good reasons for these ideas not to work, but on the surface, I think they might be good suggestions.

First off, I'd like to sidestep the whole --in my my mind ridiculous-- "RRs are arbitrary and capricious" line of argument; this is not what my suggestions are about.

I will say that I like RRs. I like the pat on the back I feel when I get them, and I also like the bump in views they usually give the stories that I've managed to get them on. I also like reading them; I am rarely disappointed by the RRs I read, and I've discovered a lot of authors I like that way.

Since often an RR, awarded at the time of story approval, does seem to correlate to an increase in views, it would appear that in that regard the Recommendation aspect of the RR works in the way it was presumably intended. It's a recommendation, and very often people follow the recommendation.

I have noticed, however, that very often, RRs can be awarded after the fact, sometimes considerably so. Competition entries can't receive RRs for example until after the competition is well over. Other times a moderator might read a story considerably after it went up, like it, and give it an RR.

As far as I can tell the stories in the Recommended Read tab on the main page are sorted by the date the story went up, not by the date they were awarded RRs. For many stories, these are one and the same, of course.

However, if an RR is awarded after the fact, especially if it's weeks or even months after the fact, it would seem sort of to nullify the "recommendation" aspect of the RR. That is, getting an ex post facto RR might be a very nice validation for the author, but it doesn't really recommend the story to many if no one knows that it's been recommended. There isn't an obvious mechanism for the public to know about this new recommendation.

I hit the RR tab fairly often, especially if I'm behind in following the front page, but I certainly don't scan back in the RR list for page after page to see if something three months old has suddenly popped up with an RR today.

So, my first suggestion is that the RR tab be sorted by the date the RR is awarded. That way, if you're hitting that tab, the newest RR awards would be at the top, and you might discover a gem that you otherwise might easily miss.

My other suggestion, and this one I'm less sure about, has to do with a comment I saw on a story left by a mod, something along the lines of, "if this story didn't already have an RR, I'd have given it one as well."

Using the analogy of the video at the video store that has five different staff picks stickers on it (Jerry's pick, Amy's pick, etc.), would it be possible for RRs to have multiple RR badges? Not to indicate which mod picked it, but simply to indicate that multiple mods thought it good enough to be an RR. So the first RR might be blue, the second another color, and so forth.

Maybe this is how an RR turns into an EP, so perhaps this is a silly suggestion, but I thought it might be interesting.

Curious to hear people's feedback.

First off, I'm so glad you didn't say anything negative about RRs. That being said, I think you do have a valid point about listing the RRs on when they get the award and not when they were published (like they are on the home page and the categories pages). I have had stories RR'd immediately upon submission, and some that were awarded after a period of time. Now, my RRs are precious and I am flattered and honored by any Mod who felt my story or stories were worthy of such an honor.
Congratulations to a Mod who has truly worked to make Lush a better place, and has always been such a great friend.

I have an idea.

And a spring break with which to write.

I totally agree and thank you so much my friend for reminding me! Spring break allows me the necessary time since work has kept me so busy lately. I'm looking forward to all the great stories... despite whatever the haters might think.
Finally... an excuse to flush out an idea I've been toying with for some time now.

I am sure this must have come up before.

Could we receive some sort of notification when a friend deletes their account?

I agree... this would be nice.

Some way of indicating whether or not you have "liked" a comment to one of your stories. It is not a big deal, but I sometimes can't remember, between looking at my phone and looking at my computer, whether I have already "liked" something.

Agreed! Shy of leaving a response it's tough to know.
I know we have a mixture of great writers and up-and-coming writers (or should that be up-and-cumming? ,) but one thing that has forever bugged me is when a writer basically writes the same story over and over again with new character names and different settings. This is more than just "Tom and Sue were so horny they could bust..." but when a guy is really into watching is wife be fucked or gangbanged by a group of rough men, usually black, and he's told what a shitty lover/husband he is. Now, once is fine, but when every story you read is basically this... it gets old. I know the wife-sharing/swapping theme is popular and when done right is a good story and an enjoyable read. However, when that's the ONLY thing an author writes... it gets old.

Sticking with one genre like interracial, lesbian, or love stories is fine. Some amazing authors have several stories in one specific genre, but they don't write the same thing over and over again... they write amazing pieces of erotic writing that bring the readers back again and again.
While I've never used Craigslist for sex, I did use it once to try to find a teaching job. I answered two different adds, one turned out to be a bogus insurance company trying to recruit minions to go "door-to-door" and sell shit (I stormed out in a rage as I felt lied to) and the other was for a charter school that I suspect wasn't credited. There are more... "legitimate" sites that post jobs for teachers. The charter school didn't pan out and I realized that if Craigslist didn't work for a job, I could only imagine how poor the personal adds could be.

I hope your story works out. It sounds like a good premise.

I havent seen any of that .. I have seen myself and one other member suggest an alternative and in addition point out the merit/gain of such a change. As always it Gav's/Nic's call but I just feel at times that Gav, when it comes to the effort to code, probably has better things to do. Thats just my personal view.

I would like two vending machines in each chat room that are free to gold members. One for salted peanuts and the other for tea/coffee please.

Thats enough from me ..

Sarcasm aside, you don't have to agree with what I said or that I'm agreeing with the suggestion. Others have said "Gav has better things to do then code ___________," and still, what was asked for happened. Take for example the new and improved Block feature. Go back and see how many thought it was a bad idea and it still happened and it's working!!!

Gav is the hardest working coder and he's made so many improvements to Lush to make it a better site... and many of those improvements have come from suggestions like this one.

It would be really really nice if you could edit your comments on stories. So many times I make mistakes and I need to delete the whole message and start again.

It's even more annoying when typing on a phone.

Please, Please, Please could an EDIT button be made.

Hugs,
Mysteria
xo

While the "copy/paste" thing is an option... truthfully it's still an extra few steps and we don't always think to do the "copy/paste" before we hit delete (I know I've been guilty of this one) so an edit button would help. I know trying to do a "copy/paste" on an Apple device seems (to me) to be a trickier process than on an Android device, thus, I can see where Mysteria's suggestion has merit. It's only for editing your own comment... not the comments of others.

I don't get all the backlash on this suggestion. You don't agree... that's fine... but really... it's a good suggestion.

This is the what the Shirley Jackson Award looks like. So perfect!

I may have to share this with my kids after we read the story. I'm so excited to share this story in April with the kids. And of course... I will have them watch the 1960s video.
I'd like to add this... respecting the one story a day rule is just courtesy. Besides... if a multi-part story is good, the readers will be chomping at the bit for the next part. Happily... we've got some great writers who can write great multi-part stories.

I know Gav's been playing with the block feature for a while, but can the block be two-fold? By that I mean, if you have someone blocked, then you shouldn't be able to send that person PMs.

It's rather foolish to go through the effort of blocking someone only to send them scathing PMs to which they can't respond.

Who the fuck would be so foolish as to PM someone they blocked? I agree with you Dani... make it go both ways.

You know, I had almost the same thought. Then I realized it was too much like a trophy for participation.

Then, you have all those writers who have loyal sheeple followers, who would support a shiny bit of poop if it fell out of their ass.

Then, you have the forum wars over someone not supporting their "friend's" story for a reader's choice.

The same way that the voting system is very clearly inflated, a reader's choice award would come to mean nothing. A bit of polished tin.

Besides, if members wanted to recommend a story, there are already at least three different ways to do it: in their blog, in their signature, in the Promotional forum. Isn't a meaningful, heartfelt review of a story you absolutely loved worth more than some award? I think so.

, as a member, not a mod. (I'm allowed)

You are totally allowed to give your opinion and honestly... I only made that suggestion because of the way some were trashing the RRs. Being someone who has 19 RRs, I consider each one special and I'm honored when a Mod feels my story is worthy. My "friends" show their love with their votes & comments.

I think your suggestion is awesome!

EDIT: I responded to this before I saw the request from Liz and later Dani to not discuss this and I apologize. I was in no way trying to ignore the earlier requests... only agree with RavenStar.
Quote by BethanyFrasier
RR's should be granted after 10 regular members hit a RR button on a story, not at the whim of one single mod.

This sounds like sour grapes to me. RRs are given when a Mod feels a story is worthy of such a recommendation and it's a way of them saying, "I really thought this story was so good that others should read it as well." It doesn't guarantee you'll like it. There are stories that have earned the EP that in my opinion don't deserve such an award... but that is only my opinion.

Perhaps instead there could be a "Readers' Pick" or a "Readers' Choice" that would fit your request. Now, when you say "regular members"... are you meaning "non-moderators"? (serious question here.)

Now, I know this would make a bit more work for Gav and the Mods... but if you think about it... a story that the readers really recommend wouldn't be a bad thing.

Just a thought.
