I shared about my relationship with my parents earlier.

The relationship I have with my son is great! We talk or text a lot. He's come to visit me several times since I moved. We've seen Wicked three times (his choice all three times). The best part is this... if I ever need his help, all I have to do is call and he's on his way to help as quickly as possible. I can count on him and he knows he can in turn, count on me.

His dad is a bit jealous of our relationship and I wish he'd just build his own relationship with him before it's too late. I worked hard to build a strong relationship with him and I don't regret it in the least.
My relationship with my parents has evolved over time.

For years I was super close with my mom, but after I had my son and two failed marriages, she seemed to get mean. Though she loves my son & my current husband, I feel she's pulled away from me. I'm not sure if it's because I moved away twice (once to a different city, once to a new state) or refused to whine about how shitty all men are. Maybe it's because I can see through her lies and bullshit.

I know my mom was adopted. This was never a secret. Her mom died three weeks after my son was born (a haunting memory for me) she called me the day before a completely disabling stroke to talk about my son who was a week old (seven days exactly.) I think this was why I had so much trouble accepting the truth that she was gone. It took a phone bill to prove my story was true. Sometimes I think my mom is angry with me for being the one who got to say goodbye. My mom sought out her birth family and found them (somewhat.) Though they are very nice people, they are not my family. They may share DNA with me, but they are not my family.

I was never close with my dad as a child. I saw him spending time with me out of court ordered obligation. I hated that. I wanted him to love me for me. All I ever heard was his criticism and complaints. Nothing I did was ever good enough for him. It was to the point that I just gave up.

Now, over the last fifteen years I've gotten much closer with my dad. My dad kept his distance due to my venom my mom spewed. Now that he and I are rebuilding our relationship, I think my mom is angry about this. Five years ago my dad lost his wife. It nearly destroyed him. I had to really be there for him. It's really brought us closer. Maybe my husband played a major role in this... I don't know.

I wish my mom & I had what we had. But for that to happen, she needs to let go of her anger and right now, I don't see that happening. I've tried reaching out to her but she's slapping my hand back (metaphorically speaking of course.) I can only hope it changes before it's too late, but it must be something she's willing to participate in.

Current $$$ raised for BCRF is approximately AU $1,100

We have over 10,000 views. An amount I never thought we would hit. No matter what reasons readers have for coming to the thread, it still gives them some food for thought that might inspire them to pay more attention to their bodies and notice when changes occur.

Another thank you to those who have posted on the thread, not only their personal photos but their personal and family stories, advice, and donations to the fund.

The donations given are fantastic. More than I'd hoped for. It's not about donating and not telling anybody you've done it for reasons of seeking attention or kudos, it's about donating and shouting it out. It might inspire others to do the same thing.

Sure, I or anyone could have donated a few hundred bucks and not said a word but that wouldn't create AWARENESS. Awareness is the number one step in winning the fight.

Not everyone can donate money. What they can do is help get the message across to women and men. That's what all of you are doing and you're doing an excellent job of it.

Shall we get on with it and keep spreading the word? We still have weeks until this closes.

FIGHT LIKE A GIRL.

This is the best news I could see on a Sunday morning. 10,000 views and $1,100 raised is awesome!!! Thank you Trinket for all you have done to bring awareness and raise a little bit of money (okay... more than a little bit) for the cause!

Go Team Lush!!!

I also made a $100 donation to BCRF.

For those who know, I'm a prostate cancer survivor. Donating to breast cancer research, to me, is a no brainer. BTW, I do not need to be included in the drawing. I'm doing this because it is the right thing to do.

One last thing : Kudos to all the men and women who are participating in this. Anyone who is negative or reducing the bravery of the loving people to something either sexual or ugly need to look in the mirror and ask themselves one question: Would I be so crass if my grandmother/mother/wife/daughter/granddaughter was fighting breast cancer? If the answer is no, then STFU. If the answer is yes, GTFO. We don't need you here.

EDIT: Attached below is the receipt for my donation.

Way to go WSCLG!!!

I'm of course talking about your generous donation... not the fact you had prostate cancer... that part sucks. However, you survived and are currently kicking ass and taking names. And I for one and honored to call you my friend.
While I did vote suck him until he cums, I really let him make that decision. If he wants me to stop so we can fuck later, that's fine with me. If he wants to cum in my mouth, also fine. From my experience, most men ask that you stop after he cums. Some get ticklish after they cum, others just want you to stop for the time being.

You have no idea what I do with my money in my private life. Unlike you, I am not one to seek attention or accolades for any charity, donation or volunteer work that I have done or do.

I may never do this ever again so pay close attention people...

MF is right about us not knowing anything about his private life (unless someone here knows him outside of Lush.) Now, maybe some posts have been deleted, but in all the times I've checked this thread... I've not seen MF do anything rude or offensive. In my opinion, his comments have been very positive. I didn't even find his gif to PrincessC offensive. He is just showing that he appreciates a nice set of beautiful breasts.

This thread is about creating awareness for both men and women. Yes, breast cancer tends to be a woman's issue (disease), but many have done a wonderful job in reminding us that men can and do contract the disease too. We've had some brave members who have shared their real pictures, and some like myself who have posted great pictures that are not us (Milik gave us a great bum shot.)

Let's hope that one day there will be no more need for threads like this... because all types of cancer will have been cured. Until then, I thank all those who have shared their pics and donated money.

I think I found the one thing MF & I have in common (aside from Lush)... if we choose to donate, volunteer, or do anything for charity, we do it for ourselves and not for attention or accolades.

is there anyway that we could get a 'mark unread' feature for our inbox? i'm REALLY bad about reading a message, wanting to think about it before replying, and then forgetting to answer. would help a TON! thanks

Agreed! This is an issue I too struggle with.

Not trying to defend OMKN as he is plenty capable of that himself. But wouldn't it be more correct to say "would be" instead of "is" in this sentence? "Is" sounds so weird and incorrect. Like the way an uneducated person speaks.

It would solve the problem so quickly and then no one is bothered by the improper use of the plural third person pronoun "their".

It would solve the problem so quickly and then no one would be bothered by the improper use of the plural third person pronoun "their".

I guess you could also say: It solves the problem so quickly and then no one is bothered by the improper use of the plural third person pronoun "their" any longer. If you want to keep "is". Still, doesn't sound right though.

Both sentences are grammatically correct. It only sounds off because we so rarely hear English used correctly. One is present tense and the other is future tense. Though it may "sound" to you as the way an uneducated person speaks, the subject and verb agreement is correct.

EDIT: Don't waste time bitching about my typo. I already fixed it.

Using "their" as a singular pronoun is not correct (politically or otherwise). Common usage allows them to be used where the gender isn't determined - though most style guides will tell you to avoid this where at all possible - but in this case the gender is known. It should be easy enough to check the sex but the code should also check whether you can actually write something on the person's wall.

I just gave you the explanation that has been and still is used. I'm well aware that "their" is NOT a singular pronoun, I'm just saying it's probably why it was chosen.

Or it could just say: "Why not say thanks and post something on your new friend's wall." smile Easy.

I completely agree with this. It would solve the problem so quickly and then no one (especially those like OMKN) is bothered by the improper use of the plural third person pronoun "their".

I get an attack of pedantry every time I get a notification about a friends request being accepted; the two errors in the very short message always stand out.

"Just to let you know LushMember has just accepted your friend's request." - (What did my friend request her to do?)

"Why not say thanks and post something on their wall." - (THEIR wall? Just how many people have accepted?)

You are correct, the apostrophe after in "friend's" is incorrect. It should just say, "... has accepted your friend request." (a minor and easily fixed error.)

As to why the message about "LushMember" accepting your friend request says, "... post something on their wall." is because the computer (and correct me Gav & Nicola if I'm wrong about this) doesn't know if the Member in question is male or female so the correct (or should I say politically correct) neutral pronoun is "their." Now... if it said "there" or "they're" I'd be having my own issues, but that's just the English teacher in me.

Perhaps (and if it's not possible, I'll totally fucking live) there might be a way for the system to know if the registered member has identified as male or female so when these messages say, "Why not say thanks and post something on his wall." or "Why not say thanks an post something on her wall."
As I was reading though this thread, I see that sadly I've got some of the "higher" risk factors to get breast cancer & to be honest... that scares me a lot. A dear friend of mine from high school had stage 2 breast cancer and lost both of her breasts. My son's 3rd grade teacher, the year he had her also had stage 2 breast cancer. Happily, both of these amazing ladies are alive and well.

So, in honor of them... I have two more pictures. One is an awesome tattoo... the other is a t-shirt both of these ladies wear with pride.

As I stated before, I won't post a picture of my real breasts. Trinket... what you are doing is simply wonderful and I applaud you efforts... but for me... my profession... my marriage... a picture of my breasts on the internet could ruin me on multiple levels. God Bless You Trinket.

The Queen says I am right

Like we care what the Queen has to say. The bottom line is this... we speak a bit differently... and that's what makes things so awesome.
I've struggled with it. I guess I'm always afraid I'll make the man sound to feminine. I think male POV stories are great when the are well written... but then again... that's true with any story.

Sweetie... you need to remember that the way Americans say & spell certain words is not incorrect. Just as the way British say & spell words is also not incorrect.

I'd show my bum, but no one wants to see a fifty year old guys ass, so I'll give you this one instead.

As for Milik's pic... a yummy bum is never a disappointment. And I'm sure you bum is very delicious.. but I also respect you're not wishing to post it either. Thank you for the nice pic all the same friend.

Having survived testicular cancer, I'm very sympathize to this disease. It not only threatens a woman's life, but even surviving it can destroy her self image.

I lost my right testical when I was twenty three, have some major scaring from related abdominal surgery and was left sterile and unable to ejaculate.

But

I survived. That was twenty eight years ago. Ladies, I feel your pain, and I urge, get your mammograms and above else, if the worse happens, never, ever give up.

Just when I thought you couldn't be more awesome! Thank you for sharing your story of survival.
First off... I'm not showing my real breasts. I'm not comfortable with that. Kudos to you ladies who have. However, I do feel we need to remember that this is real so here's my submission. Trinket... don't worry about me in the drawing.

The scariest words in the English language are, "I think I feel something," and "We need you to come in for a 2nd mammogram." I've heard both. I know right now the American Cancer Society are running those very real commercials about the woman's reaction when she gets told or gets the call. I've heard both these phrases and both times... my world came to a screeching halt. Fear. Panic. The whole, "Why me?"

Happily... luckily... it turned out I suffer from a condition that about 50% of all women suffer from... dense breast tissue. The problems is that my risk of cancer is a bit higher. So, every year I get my breasts squished and make sure the girls stay healthy & well. For those wondering about dense breast tissue... here is a link form the American Cancer Society.

7th grade reading comprehension packets I could print and make a class set of.
I first came to Lush because a fellow author and friend suggested it would be a great platform to post my stories on. The friend who brought me has since left, but I stayed, gained friends, and feel I have been able to help others improve in their writing while becoming a better myself. I love the social networking aspect of this amazing site.

Baby - Justin Bieber

Okay... here's why. Someone took this song and figured out it works well to show how to structure compound sentences with semicolons and the FANBOYS. So, here's the video to prove I'm not completely nuts!
