The meme is simply using an alternate fact.
Alan's birthday would have been Thursday. He would have been fifty six; far too young to die. He had so much more to offer the world. Alan gave himself not only to Lush and stories, bit to other poetry groups as well. His influence on other poets was a positive force. I was devastated when I learned of his death. I'm still asking myself why he had to die, and I'll always wonder how much more he could have given the world as a poet. I just feel overwhelming sadness at his loss as a friend.

You lost me at Trump supporter. You assume way too much. One did not have to be a Hannity/Breitbart koolaid drinker to see that Trump would be bad, but that Hillary would be worse. The Republican elites probably don't have your best interests at heart. But you can bet your behind that the Democratic elites don't either. Wake up and smell the coffee. Refuse to be played by either side. They're the two wings of a very large bird of prey. And you and yours are on the menu.

A little touchy, aren't you trumpflake? Talk about deflecting.

Interesting deflection attempt there. Or you completely missed my point. Obama spent 8 years blaming everything wrong on others, most often on his predecessor. Not once do I remember him acknowledging that sometimes shit just happens, or worse, that he just might have caused some shit to happen. Not in 8 years. People are imperfect. Obama was/is imperfect. Did he have a perfect administration? I really don't fucking think so! And I survived 8 years of it.

So buck up, Snowflake! The sky is not falling. You will survive the next 8 years just fine!

Obama inherited an economic mess when he came into office. The economy got better, although it would have been hard fo it to have gotten worse. Bush/Cheney left the country on the point of economic collapse. Now Trump wants credit for jobs created in the Obama administration. Trump and his allies have shown us the kind of authoritarian government they want to impose by the people they have put in positions of power. He is blustering about nuclear arms and alienating our allies at the same time he cozies up to dictators and covers up the reason for a Russian diplomats death. Do you read the news or just accept what Brietbart News and Hannity tell you? I bet you believe calling people 'snowflake' is political discourse. It isn't.

You may also believe that Obama is running a shadow government and that the Democratic party, especially Obama, framed the Trump campaign for Russian interference in the election. Those 'news' stories are wrong as well, just more nonsense pulled out of the ass of right wing propagandists like Sean Hannity, and manufactured in the fevered minds of desperate Republican politicians.

Obama stayed in DC to give his daughter time to graduate high school, and Donald Trump's people collaborated with a foreign government to interfere with the American electoral process according to United States intelligence reports, but people like you and other Trump supporters would rather believe in alternative Brietbart facts and misinformation Hannity makes up on the spot than The Intelligence community. Smoke and mirrors to deflect people from the truth issues from the White House, and you believe every word, so don't be telling us the next eight years is going to be okay because comparing other administrations to what Trump is trying to do to this country is ridiculous. It's like eight sticks of dynamite is going to be okay because you survived eight firecrackers.

As Perry Mason used to say, "Irrelevant and immaterial". The national popular vote count has no place in our national election process. That process is set up per the Constitution and conducted on a state by state basis. The Constitution states just how many electoral college votes each state gets. The individual states get to decide how their electors are selected, and how they are required to vote, or not.

You can't say Trump is not the legitimate victor because he didn't win the popular vote. If the two campaigns were fighting over the popular vote, neither candidate would have ever set foot in New Hampshire, Vermont, Delaware or any of the other spots with low population. The election would have been about who won the most populous states, and that's where the campaign would have been fought out.

And that is why there's an Electoral College. Firstly to force someone to pay attention to the needs and desires of the smaller states. And secondly because without the compromise that set up the Electoral College, the smaller states would never have agreed to ratify the Constitution in the first place. Got it? No Electoral College -> no Constitution -> no United States of America.

Nowhere in my quote did I challenge Trump's victory. I pointed out the absurdity of leaving California out of the popular vote count.

I think that the electoral vote should be more adequately divided by population. One vote shouldn't count for less than another. The vote is based on the number of members of congress rather than population. Every state gets one congressmen, higher populated states get more. Thu is what the Founding Fathers intended. Each state has two senators. Originally, they didn't intend for Senators to be elected, but appointed by the various state legislatures. Slaves, or immigrant Africans, as Dr. Ben Carver likes to refer to them, were counted as 3/5 of a person but had no vote at all. That helped boost the Representatives in The House for the slave owning states, raising the number of electors they had.

People in populous states are counted as less than one person now in the Electoral vote. If my state is underrepresented in Congress, my vote is worth less than those who are over represented. In an equitable system, all of us would be represented equally. With states gerrymandered the way they are, even our local elections aren't equatable.
Quote by sundancer2004
Trump won the popular vote in 31 states to her 19 and DC. 62% to here 38%

Trump led in the total popular vote for all states except California.

Hillary won California 5,860,714 or so to Trumps 3,151,821. 61.6% to 33.1%, exclusive of the other candidates

So California gave Hillary the popular vote for all states as claimed by the Democrats and the somewhat tower of pisa leaning press/media
Deduct her California vote from her national vote leaving her with 54,978,783 and deduct Trumps California vote from his national total, leaving him with 57,113.976, he wins in a landslide in the other 49 states, 51.3% to her 48.7%

So, in effect, Hillary was elected president of California and Trump was elected president of the rest of the country by a substantial margin.

This exemplifies the wisdom of the Electoral College to prevent the votes of any one heavily populated state from overriding the votes of the others.

Your logic is ridiculous. It's like saying if Texas, Florida and Pennsylvania were;t counted, Clinton would have won the electoral college. Clinton won the popular vote. That's the second time that the loser of the popular vote was elected President.
I'd like to point out that the name of the thread is 'Donald Trump for President.' Not that my reminder will do any good, of course, you will continue to go off subject until the thread descends into madness and memes. This thread has really worn itself out. Donald Trump is president. Although, I suppose you could make the point that there are still people who want him to be, Doesn't defending the indefensible ever get boring? Imagine what this thread will look like if we drag it out until the next election.

A thread about the Affordable Care Act would be good for discussing that, or a health care thread. There are pros and cons of the health care issue, some of which might even involve Trump's policies on health care and how they may influence his next election, if there is one. Who knows? The Republic is in real danger. Woman's rights are in real danger. Education is in real danger, The whole fucking world is falling down around us. Start new threads once in awhile, anyone can do it, I would start one myself if I wasn't so angry.

Point being your stats are from private research, a good reference not factual . These "research projects" are designed to reflect the beliefs of certain special interest groups, not the interest of the general public. Therefore, the facts are skewed. AS I said before Ruthis, You and I and several others could apply for funding to conduct research, granted funds and begin. Each of us, could if we so desired, include fact we wanted and conveniently ignore those that contest our perception.

I can always use money for research. Facts are facts. That's why we have peer reviews. A fact is provable. Global warming, for instance, is provable. You can ask for funds to prove it isn't, and I would if I had no ethics. A lot of people make good livings giving the oil companies 'research' to defend destroying the environment. Other scientists can point out how flawed their 'studies are, and millions of people believe them anyway. The oil companies don't really care as long as they can hold the environmentalists off long enough to suck every drop of oil they can and make profits. What if it does destroy the atmosphere and kill all life on the planet, they have their money to eat and breathe.

I thought you claimed to be a conservative; What is wrong with private research? Do you think all research should be conducted by the government.

Please learn to put your comment after the . You have done this on two of your posts on this page of the thread.

The far right is wanting to impose fascism on the rest of us, they haven't been able to do that yet, but they are trying. When they have the power to do it, they will begin culling the herd, as you so gleefully called it. Now they are working on discrediting the press and forcing their religious beliefs down everyone's throats. I know you can't be reasoned with, so I will save myself for those who can.

The builder?
If it's hot tea I prefer black tea with milk. If it's iced it has to be sweet tea and come with a pitcher or unlimited refills. At home, I use black if it's hot, orange pekoe if it's iced. I've never really cared for green teas: they are a tasteless abomination. I drink some herbal teas, but I have to put sugar in them. If the tea is too sweet at southern restaurants, they also usually have unsweetened. Or you can mix them together. I think that Red Rose is okay, but I use Luzianne for iced tea. Tetley is good too, the iced tea blend, that is, but for hot tea it has to be Tetley's Black tea. I also like Twinings, but I don't think it's better than Tetley, and it costs a lot more. Some days I like a cup of Earl Grey, though. I like Twinings loose tea, but I usually don't have time to brew a pot. The bags are much more convenient, and I can take them to work. Twinings is superior to Bigelow in my opinion, seeker4. Especially the Earl Grey.

I didn't know it as as high as 70%. I am used to living in a country where seasonal labour is picked by visitors... that is overseas workers ... who come on temporary visas and exit when the season is over or their visa expires. We didn't call them immigrants, because they weren't. Why doesn't the same scheme apply here?.

It's cheaper to let them find their own way into the country and have them as illegals so as to pay them less, then threaten them with deportation when they complain they don't make enough. There are chicken processing plants in my area which depend on illegal immigrants. I'm sure they get tip offs if ICE is coming. The local economy would really drop without them. Also, they help keep wages low by being willing to work for less. You know Republicans love low wages. All this talk about illegal immigrants is just for votes. I'd be shocked if anything significant was done. Try to convince the conservative voter that we need to allow eleven million foreigners to come and take jobs. They won't go for that. It's easier to just let them sneak in and make noises about them during election cycles.

Some Americans would be happy to use slave labor.

President Trump introduces Victims Of Immigration Crime Engagement office created out of the Department of Homeland Security.

Now if that isn't a chapter out of the Nazi playbook, I don't know what is. Well, there's demonizing the free "lying" press, putting cronies and Generals in high government positions, massive buildup of the military industrial complex, scapegoating the ills of society on minorities, the stated intention to beef up law and order to battle a non-existent rise in crime. But aside from all that, no fascism here.

Victims of Immigration Crime. Wow. Of course if he wanted to create a burueacracy dedicated to the victims of crime and help the most people, it'd be called the Victims of American on American Crime. But that's not Nazi enough, so let's put all in eggs in the "brown people are the root of all problems" basket instead. It feeds the racist Trump base and demonizes immigrants and, in his mind, legitimizes the trampling of the Constitution in the name of border security.

I've felt it for sometime, but I can safely say that as of right now, I'm horribly ashamed of my country and what's become of it in only 1 short month. I feel like crying.

But I won't cry. I will, with every fiber of my being, Resist!

Oh, and just in case you're curious about how dangerous outsiders are vs. our own domestic good old fashioned American on American crime:

Government statistics show that, except for some small blips, serious crime has decreased almost every year from 1994 through 2013. For over a decade Gallup has found that the majority of Americans polled believe crime is up, contrary to the fact that crime rates have plummeted in almost every small and large city since the 1990s. This is not to say that all cities and areas are experiencing decreases in violent crime year after year, but the overall rate of violent crime is significantly lower than historic levels.Brookings. The same trend is evident in the realm of “gun crime.” Per a Pew analysis of DOJ

It's your side that is trying to assert that we have a high crime rate. The right wants to engender the idea that we are all in danger. Most of the people killed in terrorist attacks since 9/11 were killed out by right wing loons. They didn't all use guns, of course. Some like Timmy McVeigh did his killing with bombs. Or didn't you know that, sweetums? Try opening your eyes and see what's really going on.

Yes the man had a unfortunate choice of words, however the constitution ensures what you purport to fear will not come to fruition. in typical Liberal fashion , should one disagree with your opinion you label then a racist, nazi racist, mysoginist , or anything that conveniently come to mind. Should you make an effort to check, you would note your behavior was conspicuous by its absence from those that do not support your opinion.

I did read it... actually there is a bit that sticks out ... how they arrive at the figure of about 11 million illegal immigrants. I have often wondered how they counted the number of illegal immigrants if they don't know where they are. I have to admit to taking two coffee breaks during my reading....

They arrived at that number by pulling it out of their ass. Did you know that 70% of food in this country is picked by immigrants? Trump used illegal immigrants to build his hotels. If people didn't hire them for the cheap labor, none of them would be working.
