If you owned a company and you caught your bookkeeper embezzling from you, would you let them keep their job?

Great analogy, Buz. I understand that very well.

I think I said this before in this thread .... the most difficult part of the cheater cheating is how disrespectful and disloyal it is to you.

But, lots of people seem to be very forgiving. I'm not forgiving. Life is too short to waste it with someone who doesn't respect you and is disloyal.

Thanks, NymphWriter, for explaining it further. My suggestion was to (try to!) curb the maliciousness that some are so adept at spreading. As magical-felix pointed out, the troll's remarks would be seen by pretty much everyone else on the site!

Alternatively, perhaps the forums should only be accessible by logged-in members, the same way the chat rooms are. biggrin

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but (discounting the fact that one would log out just to stalk on the other person) there are other ways one would know they have been blocked, right? For instance, they would not be able to view the profile (while being logged in, of course) and they won't be able to PM someone who's blocked them too? I'm not sure about the latter, but I think this is the case.

Just chiming in here ....

firstly, I think it's a bad idea that the forum could only be read by logged-in members. Lots of people never sign up or at least, read from a far, enjoying not being "linked" to a sex site (for whatever reasons).

The chat rooms are a priviledge of being a member. But hey, maybe Nicola would think that "members only forum" is do-able.

Felix above is right about all those ways to figure out if someone has blocked you. There is also the "following" someone. If you "follow" someone, you'll see their AV on your following list. If you go to their profile, you cannnot see yourself in their "who's following _____".

Remember, there are lots of reasons why people block others .... and it's not just because of the drama in the forum. Sometimes it's something as simple as someone being annoying and you don't want to see it or hear from them. Other reasons are low-scoring stories, dick pics, dickheadss, nutjobs, etc.

Hope that helps.

Why are you so negative to suggestions or questions? This makes people not want to open there mouth. Maybe if you read the entire comment and not pick pieces out you would understand... Moving on past this...........................

Oh, I'm sorry you took my opinion as being negative.

As a Lush OldTimer, I've learned how to handle the Lush Dramas after my first time here. I've become more laidback realizing some people are shit disturbers, others just love every one, some just need to be heard. I get it.

Anyways, I haven't taken offense with your reply to me (if that was your intention) . My comment was with regards to the Fanatical Blockers. Sometimes stepping away gives clarity and perhaps seeing others in a more tolerant light.

Best regards,
Van

Note to self, autocorrect from my mobile drives me nuts!
I think instead of requesting more and more additions to this block feature, people need to perhaps change their log in page to their profile page instead of the timeline.

If you don't want anyone looking at your page, perhaps you should deactivate your account when you log off.

Maybe, just maybe, people need to shrug their shoulders and move on. Or go outside and enjoy something else. If lush is that annoying you need blocks from here to Timbuktu, perhaps go Enjoy your Facebook instead.

This wide range block feature is doing nothing for the lush community. If anything, new members will not feel as welcome as they should.

I think blocking Forum posts is going to make the Forum much less entertaining.

Oh, the thrill is gone.

I agree .... and I said that on page 2 that reading some of the sparing matches was highly entertaining. It's too bad that some take things so seriously, or take such offense with others who challenge them. I enjoy seeing people voice their opinions and the sparks that ignite communications.

Some of those sparks makes the "readers" think about the topic and the reader may never post a reply.

THAT is one of the many awesome things about Lush: A place to expand your world.

(Lush has taught me that I have really lived a very sheltered life! hahaha)

There should be a forum block, a message block and a vote block. That would be perfect. That way I can block people from malicious voting but I could still recieve their hilarious messages for example. But I guess nothing is perfect.

I really like this idea!!

Forum Block (saves all that drama)
Message Block (who needs more cock/dick pics??)
Vote Block (for those who get down-voted by cliques)

I second this ....

Van
This entire thread is hilarious! I mean .... this is an adult site, right?

We need to worry about people talking shit, questioning your (or your) opinion, complaining about some "troll" talking smack about you? You can't defend yourself?? You want people banned/suspended or some other dreary thing, like .... "blocking their comments" in a site that VALUES FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION??

seriously????

I think some people need to grow up, and mature into the adult the years say you are .... develope coping skills to protect their fragile egos. Apparently, some take issue with others questioning their opinion or whatever the thread is about.

Blocking comments in a forum cuz you don't like some or you "THINK" they are a troll because they question you??

Some people need to grow up.

Some people need to learn to ignore "bait".

Some people need to read someone elses' opinion/thoughts and stop being so fucking judgmental. Just be fucking thankful and grateful for this site to be functioning and caring about YOU, their member!!

fuck this .... now, you all can block me .... grow up.

Van

PS .... thanks Nicola. xoxo

Sorry I couldn't read your post, I have you blocked

Its more about filtering out the nonsense from a thread. Of course you can still read the posts if you want by logging off.

Maybe we need to add a reveal link incase you really want to see it?

This is gonna spoil all my entertainment here. I've had some great chuckles and even laughing so hard I'm crying on occasion. Now what the Fuck am I going to do for laughter on lush?

On a side note. I'm always amazed at what you code and do for lush. Being impressed for 6 years now, is quite a feat.

Van
thank you all for your contributions to this query.

What I am taking from this conversation is that .... if the word is said without hate, it's ok.

example:

Henry looks at John with a big smile and exclaims, "holy shit, buddy, you're a faggot!"

or if someone is writing about their sexual conflict such as: I thought to myself I was a normal straight chick with a little pussy twist, a lipstick coming out of the straight closet. Such relief. I AM a lipstick and ready to explore!

The real issue isn't the "word" .... it's the hate behind the word when it is expressed in a story.

And, if the story verifier deems it to be non-hateful, it's a go.

perhaps this is exactly why "REVENGE" was not an approved story topic with the underlying subliminale "hate" aspect.

again, thanks for your patience and all the words trying to explain this to me (and I am sure others).

best regards,

Van
you ask a simple question, because you don't know .... and you get this ....

good grief

I wasn't scolding anyone, let alone quoting you at all. I was giving perspective to a post meant to give the impression we are either inattentive or inconsistant. Thank you for noticing my post, but let's not confuse what my post was about.

I see. No scolding. But you perceive that someone is saying that the mods are inattentive or inconsistant. I don't see it that way. Perhaps you are being overly sensitive?

Because Lush is a living evolving site, rules change and we must change with those rules. (ie - )

The question and statement was very simple ..... a definitive list of the censored/unacceptable words would be greatly appreciated.

At this point, I don't even want to know the reason or even why said word is censored.

And for the record, I was considering entering the contest - but after hearing from another author about a censored word, it made me realize, I might too cross that "not appropriate use of a word or words". Do I want (or even care) to spend my time writing a story that will be rejected which could be rectified by a list of no-no/censored words??

sigh ............ This information would be helpful to the veteran authors and the newer Lush authors who are not mods and are unaware of those words. (this includes me!)

Thanks a bunch again.

In the EP story you referance, the individual in question was calling themself the offending word, a vastly different situation than using it as hate speech. In the Recommended Read, the story is a 19k word behemoth that was written in 2012. Even though it is now a 149 vote, solid 5 story, it wouldn't pass today. That doesn't mean we are going to kick it back three years after the fact.

We have 30 thousand plus stories on the site. With thousands more having been deleted or rejected over the years. Seriously, we are likely talking about over 100,000 stories that have been moderated, so I'm not going to worry overly much about the couple dozen that got through. We do very well for an all volunteer group.

Thank you very much for the scolding. I am pretty sure no one here is asking "remove those offending stories that are likely famous for having the words nigga/faggot/ [or variations thereof]" because that is ridiculous. [Although, many authors lost their famous " " stories because they were removed. I wonder how that is soo different?] Also, no one is slamming or saying that the awesome volunteer group of story verifiers are doing a shitty job. From a former mod, I know how diligent many of the mods are, often looking at Lush as their/our baby.

Anyways .... onward ....

In light of the newest comp, I think it is very important to "note" what is unacceptable.

So far we have:

Faggot (does that include fairy, fag?) What other variations are there of this word? Is fuckboi similarly looked at as faggot?? I don't know and that's why I'm asking.

and nigga (are there variations of that??)

Tranny

isn't offensive, apparently .... so it's just the three words???

What alternative words for these ARE acceptable??

This new comp could be very touchy with regards to unacceptable "stereotypical" word usage .... as many people, not just authors, could be still be exploring and coming to acceptance about things different than what they know.

Thanks a whole bunch for clarifying this "touchy" subject.

Van
I am gathering that these three words are ok if it's used in some "contextual" manner.

Who can share the definitive censored words list? I assume those three words are not the only words that are suspect/ censored.

Thanks.

You can't use beaner, **removed by moderator** (lol that one must've been really bad), donkey dick or retard either.

Duly noted, Jack.

So, I did a search in the stories search on the front page for "faggot" .... it returned 65 stories.

I chose one Arthur where it has "fucking faggot" in it.

So .... is faggot really a censored word?

came up with 52 stories. I chose a poem Kandi-Girl wherein the last line says: "Darling techno !"

So .... I'm thinking isn't really a censored word.

resulted in 6 stories ....

Anyways, I think it's important for all writers/authors to know what is not allowed in our attempt to have our stories published here.

Thanks again!

Van
Could we get a listing of words that are unacceptable for publishing on Lush?

I have been told that the following words are not acceptable and the story will be returned for these particular words to be corrected.

faggot

(I am sure, in some rare occassions, that these words would work as long as they are not referencing a hate-filled comment ..... such as .... John looked lovingly at his husband and said, "god, I love you faggot" ....

Thanks a whole bunch!

Van
Honestly, the comment box on a story/poem has to be addressed.

that touchy bitch is annoying as shit.

Hit return, to start a new paragraph, and .... wham, your comment is up. We don't always stop and think ..... "ah, hold the shift button and hit return for a soft return". grrrrr

so annoying.
I listen to indie music .... and somehow, they are playing Robbie Robertson "Somewhere Down the Crazy River" .... isn't that a little crazy??

now, it's The Bjorns "Electric Love" .... love it! smile
