Rump, put a round for the house on me. It's a temporary farewell. I'm taking a break from here and some other Internet activity. Just need some time to re-focus. Probably be back in May or June (though who know?).

Take care, all.

Look forward to your return, Scott.

Yesterday's Mets game was canceled due to...wait for it...snow. Rescheduled as part of a double header in June.

It's still early in April, Tonya - the month can still turn around for you.

Gill, getting a house paid off is a marvelous thing! Enjoy the trip with your husband! Go somewhere fun!

Köffee as always. Splash some of Fuzzy's Jameson's in there if you would. Thanks Fuzz!

I am finally waking up, though I got out of bed 9 hours ago.

The beach in Galveston Texas is my favorite .

EXACTLY what I was gonna say. I haven't been to a lot of beaches, but I love Galveston and the Padre islands.

Yes I dress up in my masturbation suit which was gifted by the NASA

And THIS is why we need a strong space program!

Actually, I think women dressing up to masturbate only happens in porn (and male fantasies) (okay, probably some female fantasies too).
I watched her sleep, til
her eyes fluttered like small birds
held in grateful arms.
If anything, there is a wall for those girls under 30-35, who have yet to learn how to wear their beauty with comfort and confidence, and how to navigate the world with poise and elegance. Older women know what they want, and don't play games to get it.

Those magazines telling you that without youth you are without worth are trying to sell you something. Usually the illusion of youth.
Fucking Mondays.

That's all I got. smile

Köffee please.
Boy, do I agree. Hot, and flawlessly written.

Raven, in my humble opinion, writes the hottest stories here. So hot that it takes a second read to realize how seamlessly well written they are.

Hello, it's nice to pop back in here for a bit. I have missed you all. I have been a bit stressed lately. I have been hospital hopping. My father and one son were in the hospital at the same time but not the same one. That would have been too easy. Both are home recovering and doing as well as I can hope. During this time my husband also lost his foster mother and my mom lost her best friend. A few other stressful things were thrown into the mix and I have not been myself.

It was a very pleasant surprise to get a message that my rather raunchy poem had made it into the top 15. I did not expect that. It was an amazing contest with so many outstanding entries I have no idea how they managed to get it to just 15. Congratulations to everyone who won placed or entered. I still have to close my eyes when I hit the submit button after anything I write. I am my own worst critic.

I am hoping for calmer days but not expecting them. I am just happy not to be sleeping in any more hospitals, for now.

I'll take a beer with a NyQuil chaser. I'm not sick but my allergies decided to make a reappearance and I don't think the NyQuil can hurt. Sorry for the rather long post.

A Happy Easter to those who celebrate and wishing everyone else is well and happy.

Cheers Everyone!

Jeez, Gill. My heart is with you. Hope the road is smooth and the journey easy for awhile - you deserve a break. Congrats on cracking the top 15. That's a hot, well-written gem of a poem.

Congrats to the other barflies who did well - Larry for cracking the top 15 and Hannah for cracking the top three!

A Wrinkle in Time lost me at the giant Oprah. Deeply underwhelmed. Stilted and clunky. Love the book, though.
No Pacific Rim 2 today, because the Easter Bunny left a coupon for "Good for 1 movie" in one of the eggs, and the youngest (who got that coupon) wants to go see A Wrinkle in Time.

Frikkin Easter Bunny.

Hit me with a Fùrbâll please.
I generally don't, I will find some scrap of paper to use. But it doesn't bother me. Books should be well-used, well loved, frayed and scruffy around the edges. A lot of my books have been given away with a "read this" from me, a lot of my books are borrowed from others who said "read this" to me. I like books that show a little wear and tear, and that includes dog-eared pages.
Great competition, great depth of entries. Contrats not only to the top three, and not only to the runners-up, but everyone who participated, and everyone who is courageous enough to sit down and put words on paper. Some really excellent poems here.

This stingray thinks so too!

at Hallmark right now, picking out a sympathy card for you. *rolls eyes*

There really should be a "Sorry You Are a Man" section in the Hallmark aisle.

First off, dear sprite, you forget the difference. YOU go to the bathroom, sit down, complete said task and go back to bed. WE have to walk into the room of course leaving the light off or we would be blinded and never sleep again, then stand in one spot while swaying (we either rarely wake completely or have been drinking before bed) and aim a steam into a opening about the size of a 5 gallon bucket. So, have a little heart......

now to answer the OP, I check each time, even now when I live alone.... that water is COLD.

Preach it!

The swaying alone makes it difficult to aim. It's so hard being a man.
I hope everyone is having a Good Friday. smile

Even though my girls are teens, I will still hide a bunch of plastic eggs late Saturday night/early Sunday morning for them to hunt for. All the eggs will have candy except for two, which will have dollar bills in them (the prospect of an ENTIRE DOLLAR used to thrill them, now they find the dollar rather jejune). The best part of this caper is finding unfound eggs six-eight months down the road, with the candy nasty and hard as a rock, and eating it anyway.

Another suggestion for the short story list. Rather bizarre and twisted fantasy by Kelly Link, called Catskin. I read it in McSweeney's initially. Very, very good. Here it is: http://www.lightspeedmagazine.com/fiction/catskin/

A Fůrball please.
I am VERY good at closing the lid after.

Not always so good at hitting the toilet though, especially if it's the middle of the night. Gotta work on my aim.
I hate wearing shoes, especially when driving.

There have been a couple times when picking up my kids from school, where I had to go into the school unexpectedly for some reason, and ended up having to wear my slippers (either that or go barefoot).

Hmm. But if we define ourselves as "talented male authors" we risk coming across as egotistical, arrogant asses, whom nobody could blame you for not wanting to befriend. On the other hand, unless someone else, someone you know and have come to trust tells you of men that they consider to be talented male authors, you wouldn't be in a position to meet any. I love a good conundrum!

Just kidding, of course. Welcome to Lush, I hope you find the site enjoyable.

Stormdog is a genuine "talented male author" who is not at all an egotistical, arrogant ass (unlike, say, myself).

Welcome to Lush, Anne. Dig the avatar.
Happy birthday Alyssa!!! Wait, it's not til Monday, I just looked at the title! I hope you have an excellent pre-birthday weekend, followed by a fantastic b-day!

Yikes, sorry about the new medical issue, Tonya. I just googled it, and hope you are part of the lucky larrge majority that responds to treatment. I grew up in Iowa, where there is a healthy tick population, and I had them all the time. My Mom was obsessive about checking my hair after I played in the woods, which was pretty much every day in the Spring/Summer.

In Tonya-like fashion, I was at the ER last night with my youngest. High fever, difficulty breathing, severe neck pain. Scary stuff. All appears to be well, though there is a follow-up at the docs today. She is still sleeping.

Baseball all weekend! My fave pitcher does Saturday (deGrom) and Sunday we find out if the Mets have a chance this season when Harvey (the Dark Knight - dumb nickname - smacks of an over-eager PR dept.) pitches. He needs to have a good year for the Mets to compete.

Did everyone here just read that and hear "blah blah blah Mets blah blah blah blah Mets?"

We also might take time this weekend to see...wait for it...PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING!!! Ping, you magnificent bastard, you cam come with! It'll be a man-date!

Köffee me up, Bill. Hope you are still flying high on the story sale!

Jeff, you being a big Mets fan, you've probably heard this already, but 'Rusty' Staub, 'LaGraande Orange' has died. One helluva player and an even better human being.

Yeah. Lent a bittersweet note to Opening Day. I loved Rusty.

On the upside Mets lead 8-4. I am SO FRIKKIN HAPPY it's baseball season again!!!

Hi,

Since the site maintenance, i have noticed that the menu bar, while in the forum, is different to when in a different part of the site;

Here is a view of my menu bar from my "timeline" page;

and here is a view when I am in the forum;

it is a subtle difference, but the "Friends" counter is not visible and the message count is wrong

Meanwhile, I'm checking out all the sites you have bookmarked. Let's see...Lushdrink...Eroprofile...where do I start? smile

This link is to the Lush version of the story. It's essentially the same as the one I submitted to M&L but w/o the sex scene. Honest.

.

Serious congrats Bill. You're a hell of a writer (and a hell of an editor).

So fun to see all these amazing short stories being thrown around. Scott, there is one Bradbury novel I love as much as his stories: Something Wicked This Way Comes.

I'd try to come up with one or two more short stories, but first pitch is in 40 minutes! LET'S GO METS!

Hey, good call on the Bradbury, Green Man. Especially A Sound of Thunder - I remember reading that as a kid and how terrifying that T Rex was! Owl Creek Bridge rocks too.

Ping - I am SO PSYCHED you are gonna read Drop City. It's a great adventure of a book! I remember telling my wife (who had given it to me as a gift) that it was a "ripping yarn!"

Anyone wanna add to add to the list?

I'll have a Fürball since sprite rejected my advances. You will find me in the East wing, writing poetry and drinking extravagantly while drowning my sorrows in south American men.

I'll buy you that Fürball and have one for myself. Although Ping (that magnificent bastard) is gonna give me shit now that I'm the lone hold-out in the bar who likes Hemingway. I feel like I'm back in college again, defending Hemingway to my professor.

Cause for celebration: Ravenstar has a new story! One of the best (and certainly hottest) writers here. She know how to push every one of my buttons (that's fictionally, mind you). Haven't read it yet, but I will: https://www.lushstories.com/stories/bdsm/encounter.aspx

Outside of the obvious, The Godfather 1 and 2 (3 was meh) and Goodfellas I really like The Departed, Once Upon A Time In America and Gomorrah.

Gomorrah is dark, gritty and eerily real feeling. There is also a TV show on Sundance I am anxiously waiting for Season 3 to come to Sundance. A little warning for those that don't like them, it does have subtitles.

Have not seen Gomorrah, but I agree with all else you said, that the first two Godfathers and Goodfellas are the obvious choices, and that The Departed and Once Upon a Time in America are remarkable.

If I HAD to choose one: Goodfellas.
