Happy National Coming Out Day!
I consider myself "out", but that doesn't mean I've had an explicit conversation about it with everyone in my life. I posted this on Facebook this morning:
The positive response to my post has been amazing. I wasn't really looking for people to tell me they love me just as I am—I already knew that. I really just wanted to make people think about all those who might be having a hard time with their sexuality and/or gender identity.
I am really lucky. I know not everyone else is.
I did get a lovely message from my cousin's wife. They're a lesbian couple raising two children, and read my post in front of their six-year-old son who responded, "Ha, he's just like me." Representation and visibility of LGBT+ people matters so much!
