You would just be trading one flawed system for another. There are always going to be too many human factors to allow the statistics to align with the actual quality of a story.
Popular, prolific and/or well-established authors will always get more views/votes/comments/reads than others. Certain categories will always be more popular than others. Personal relationships will always influence the numbers.
Over the years, there have been a lot of gripes about the voting system, and I have gotten frustrated myself when it doesn't work as I think it should. I've also seen the site implement lots of different measures to make the best of it. Problems with malicious downvoting get dealt with. Confidence intervals were imposed on score averages. Recommended Reads were introduced to highlight excellent writing.
I also don't see that there's a way to reliably measure "reads" without someone pressing a button, nor that the number of "reads" correlates to any measure of quality.
