Thank you all and I am very sorry to have brought it up, wasting your time. Exceedingly petty of me. I think I need to go away for a while.

I think it was a very good question. When you can't understand something the only thing to do is ask. Isn't it "there is no wrong question". Good for you for bringing it up. It's terrible when you open yourself up innocently and someone strikes like a snake. They are in the wrong....certainly not you.

Apologies for the extreme close up, we daren't let go of him. He's called Gaston and has a lovely temperament. We did ask if he is a lurcher, we got a shrug. He looks more on the whippet side of the family, sleek but tall. I had an image of something from the Hound of the Baskervilles.

And Ines wants a dog now... *rolls eyes*

Visiting friends in Scotland who had two lurchers and they were exactly as described here:

The Lurcher is not easily defined and there are nearly countless possibilities of what constitutes one. One parent is a sight-hound (usually a Greyhound or Whippet for smaller size), and while the other parent can be any type of dog, they are usually pastoral working dogs (like Collies) or Terriers. This makes for a swift, athletic hunting and racing dog that is also an excellent companion for individuals and families alike! You will be hard pressed to find a more laid-back, people-loving hybrid than a Lurcher. This hybrid is usually low maintenance, obedient, and likely to be a couch potato indoors. They will vary tremendously in looks and personality and we highly recommend knowing which parent breeds you desire in your Lurcher and then visiting those pages. Note, this is an excellent breed to adopt if you are considering that option.
Here you are having a birthday yesterday and I missed wishing you a good one. I have heard nothing but the best adjectives about what a wonderful person you are. Happy Birthday late....

Every site needs a sweet and kind and fun friend and we have all decided it is you. Oh, talented too. Make sure you enjoy every day...

Not a good way to start the new year. Scary in fact. What will you forget next? Shivering.
