Oh, Linda. I am so incredibly sorry. My heart does break for your friend, you and all the other parents out there trying to hard to make everything work.......alone. I have been raging and screaming at the lack of research and funding for mental health and mental health facilities for a long time. Look at the teens that get a gun and kill so many people in schools, movies, etc., and come to find out, they knew they had mental health problems. But GUESS WHAT? We don't have help for them. Parents can be trying their best but if there is no where for them to go and get real help for their child, husband, wife, mother, father - there isn't anywhere. I wish people would look into their state's facilities for long term care of the mentally ill. Linda, this is not your problem - but another part of not doing the things necessary to improve so many levels of the medical care in this country. I really do rage against this. How proud can we be of this country? Where are our priorities? Where is our empathy, caring and love?

"Thanks for the words of wisdom, Rumpmaster. In my case I seldom worry over stories and poems. I admit that some take more research and time but I don't take it personally. Honestly, I am now writing for the pure pleasure I get from finishing something creative, whether it takes weeks or hours. I presume that I might call myself lucky that way. My recent entry into this current competition took weeks to get right. A poem I posted yesterday took a few hours. Both have been greeted well by the few who follow my work. The poem was made a favorite of the first two ladies who read it. The story has been favorited by two ladies out of the eleven who scored it. What a thrill. "

I'm very excited to read both of these. You are an amazing talent and I have been reading you for years. Going to read them.

Maybe a little single malt over a single ice cube please, Rump. Thank you.
Said Lily: Thanks Rump. Trying to keep myself busy till it is go time. I think a stiff drink will help. I hope everyone is having a fantastic morning!

So very, very, very happy for this really great couple.

Oh, hasn't Keith put outstanding posts above? Happy, happy, and always remember you are so cared about.

Did you know the old Atlanta Crackers became the Richmond Braves, then later the Gwinnett Braves (the AAA affiliate of the major league Atlanta Braves)? Being in the same metro with the big league team caused a lot of marketing problems. So they're renamed the Gwinnett team the Gwinnett Stripers, yep, named for a fish. There is a big lake nearby.

Way back around the time the American League was brand new before 1910, the Washington Senators started having Ladies Day at their games. Usually, women didn't attend baseball games in those days, so they thought it would help them make more money to do that. The ladies started coming in great numbers on Ladies Day.

One particular Washington Senator player, who the ladies thought was very good looking, became their favorite. So one day he was ejected from the game after arguing with the umpire. That didn't set too well with the ladies. Their anger eventually boiled over and thousands of women stormed the field. They started a large riot and tore up the stadium. Eventually, the police arrived in large numbers, many women were arrested and carried off in paddy wagons and the riot was quelled, but not after great damage had been done.

Sanford Stadium in Athens is having a lot of renovation and other improvement work done, so only 78,000 seats are available instead of 93,000 for today's G-Day Game. For those who don't know what that is, it's the day, after a few weeks of spring practice, the Georgia Bulldog football team divides up in half as the Red team and The Black team, and plays a practice game against each other. Here in the Deep South, such games are often sell outs. College football IS a religion down here. Just ask Rumpy about his LSU Tigers.

I think it's going to be a great sunny day, perfect for drinking ice cold beer. Cheers!

Thank you, Buzz, I do appreciate learning something new every day if possible. And there is nothing better than a nice cold long neck Miller Lite for me after digesting what is a lot to learn. Unless we only have old bent bottom beer by now.....then that will be fine. Thanks, Rump.

With greatest respect to Miss Elizabeth I would also like to point out the Washington Nationals were once the Montreal Expos and a Canadian powerhouse ball team that came damn close to a World Series berth.

Thank you for this bit of exciting background. See how far a team can fall being transferred to Washington, D.C. ?

It's TGIF-eve here at Rumplations, misbehave accordingly.

Of course, the joint is still buzzing with the news of Ms Elizabeth coming out of the dugout as an admitted Nats fan. For the benefit of any sports illiterates and/or those residing on the east coast of the big pond, the Nationals are a major league baseball team in the Washington D.C. area.

Those familiar with the musical 'Damn Yankees' should know that team, the, 'Washington Senator's, moved to Minnesota and change their name to 'Twins'. It's replacement later moved to Texas and dropped the names 'Senators' in favor of 'Rangers'. The current version, the transplanted 'Montreal Expos' gave up the name 'Senators' in favor of, Nationals. All that may or may not be exactly the whole truth, not to mention nothing but the truth, but it is in the ballpark, so to speak.

I love pundits. Love them. Usually all very handsome as well as brilliant. Certainly the case here. I did feel I had to keep it undercover because the Nationals have an uncanny ability to shoot themselves in the foot even with one of the best teams anywhere. And it would just tempt fate too much to come out rooting for them. Why, look what happened to poor Jeff after getting all excited about the Mets beginning.....yeah, even the Nationals beat them a couple of times. But thanks a lot Bill. Means a lot that you know so much about my poor team. What can we possibly hope will come out a winner from Washington, D.C.? The Redskins? The Wizards? The Capitols? Congress?
I will have some coffee sludge if any is still available with my favorite a shot of Drambuie. Thanks.

Tonya, glad you are taking the day off, and hope your aches and bronchitis are on the mend. Thanks for making köffee! I could use some. Doubt I will enter the comp, though I do have an inkling of an idea. But I am not writing well, or quickly.

This day has started out pretty crappy. Let's hope it improves. Maybe the Met'll win.

Sorry, I have tried to keep this very quiet but I am a lifelong fan of the Nationals (Senators). But I am a nice person who never brags, because it will probably come back to bite me. I'll be glad to buy you a drink but I know it won't help much. Sigh. Long season to go.

I need some sparkling cider if you have it, Rump. I want everyone to share it with me for a toast to my wife. Today is our 36th wedding anniversary. She deserves to be saluted and recognized.

Cheers, skool, slainte. And hoping little Tonya and little Sara will join us.

Certainly a wonderful day and sorry I am a day late......but celebrate all year and I won't be late.........my best to you both

This was one of the largest number of entries I have seen and the quality - can't even describe how good all entries were. To even get them to 15 had to have been so hard.

This is just a short list of some stories that gave me pleasure to read. And have done so when I re-read them years later.

An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge - Ambrose Bierce

Eve's Diary - Mark Twain

The Lottery - Shirley Jackson

Sredni Vashtar - H. H. Munro (Saki)

A Rose for Emily - William Faulkner

A Sound of Thunder - Ray Bradbury

The Barn Burning - Wiliam Faulkner

There Will Come Soft Rain - Ray Bradbury

Flowers for Algernon - Daniel Keyes

The Swimmer - John Cheever

A Good Man is Hard to Find - Flannery O'Connor

Now, as I await the approval of a short piece of naughty fiction of my own I'll indulge in another cup of joe, if you please, bar keep. Thanks, ever so much.
I have copied these down along with some of the others mentioned here. I just hope with all the wonderful stories I'm behind on here I can get them read. I may have to give up wind surfing and mountain climbing - both of which are time-consuming.

If it wasn't so much work getting a new one done, i'd have Gav make you one.

That is the kindest thought. I have heard that particular one is the most time-consuming and some of them just seem to self-combust. That sounds like danger to the model maker, so I don't want you or Gav to worry about it. If he ever hits on a simpler method of making them, I'll get in touch again.
