This is timeless (and brilliantly done).

After noticing the scores in the competitions this year, and the people who are "4 bombing" them to hopefully gain some kind of competitive advantage (It doesn't work, I delete all votes from other competition authors, and note who's trying to sabotage other people's average scores), it's time for a bump!
A word of warning. I just tried to use FireFTP to transfer some files to a server. It no longer works with Firefox Quantum.

As a browser, it seems excellent.
I am going to lock this thread now as it's veered so far off track, the original message is getting lost.

I should have perhaps posted it as an "Announcement" and locked it from the off, but thought there may be some pertinent questions raised (which didn't really happen!).

Thank you for all your feedback everyone!
Sounds fascinating RejectReality!

I am looking forward to reading all the entries, as are our judges.

Thank you to everyone who entered the competition, and supported our efforts for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

I've done what you asked, Nicola. I went out of my comfort zone and wrote a Monster Sex story. And, lo and behold, it was good enough for a Recommended Read. Thanks to Stormdog.

I look forward to reading it! =d>

First, there's a small matter of a few more thousand stories to get through!
This Omnium badge discussion is taking up far too much of people's time.

I / we have over 4,000 back catalogue stories to skim through, as the recovered category contained some drafts too.

That will take weeks, and is a much higher priority than a profile badge.

How about thinking up story ideas for the new categories instead? Go out of your usual comfort zones, write something totally original that blows people away. That would be a much more positive use of everyone's energy and time.

I am still hoping nicola will make it an optional, and I can get the badge without it

I think that's fair enough to be honest.
Only another 5 days to go. Get your entries in folks!

A reminder, we'll be adding an additional $150 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, thanks to the generosity of our 2nd (Lupus) and 3rd place winners of our "Bookish" Competition.
Having given this matter consideration, I don't really want to have more than one badge with the word, "Omnium" in it.

How about, on top of the existing Ominium badge (translation from Latin, meaning "All") we add a badge for authors published in 80%+ of our categories? That way, you can leave out any categories you don't wish to write in.

There are 51 categories at present.

If we introduce a new badge, what should we call it?

"Naughty 40" - published in 40+ categories.

"Eager Beaver"

"Mélange"

"Medley"

Any suggestions?

I did. Although it wasn’t for sex. We knew we wanted to be together. Now we are engaged to be married in March. Oh, and yes. It is great.

That's wonderful news.

Congratulations.

Great to hear that Lush is on it. And yet, despite enormous resources, organizations as sophisticated as the NSA have had issues. The environment has changed. I don't want problems to befall the site or its members, but it's different now, what with the ascendancy of hackers and online vigilantes. But hey, getting out of bed has its own risks, but I'm comfortable with those. Then again, I control 'em.

Is this your last hurrah?

Bye.

I wonder if our membership would like to know you voted down every competition entry while you were a member?

Morals = 0.

I think more likely, you'll end up with a lot more entitlement from sub-par authors - "I paid you to publish my stories" etc.

If a story isn't up to the required standard, it isn't going to be published. I don't take into consideration the person's membership level. Standards need to be upheld or the site goes to pot.
We'd omitted "Horror" by mistake, so that's 11 new categories.

I don't think we'll be adding any new ones for the foreseeable future.

Feel free to keep sensible suggestions coming though.
The winner of October's Moderator of the Month Award, has ploughed through the story queue, taking no prisoners.

She has curves galore, and is one of the nicest people you're ever likely to encounter.

Please give a big hand to Curvygalore!

Thank you for all your time and effort with the queue Curvy
I have received confirmation that votes and comments on previously published stories, have been lost. But on a positive note, the stories are all there.

Gav will publish them all again, over the coming few days.

Due to the way they were stored in the database, mixed in with them will be some drafts, which will need to be removed. If you come across one which is clearly not finished, or not up to the usual standards here, please report it.

We will gradually scan through the lot over the coming weeks, to tidy up the category.

Thank you.

Money vs morals: 1 - 0

More income to cover increasing costs v No site at all: 1 - 0
Lovely post Ping

I hope everyone enjoys the new categories.

I feel like we've been a little too mainstream, and I'd like to see more edgy, quirky stories posted.

It's very cold in the UK, not conducive to drinking beer or white wine. So I'd like a glass of red please Rumple, perhaps followed by a warming Cognac.

Here is a question. I hope it is a simple answer. I see in the monster category that werewolves are included. They are humans that become wolves after being transformed. How about vampires? Are they considered monsters even if they started out as humans? There is a long tradition of vampire stories, so should they be included in the monster category?

Vampires go in the "Horror" category.
I think there have been minor improvements to the document holder for each story, over the years.

Ideally they'd all be backwards compatible, but as we've changed the editor software, and various other things over the years, that won't always be the case.

Newer stories should have exactly the same document template, as it were, so they should transfer between categories, fine. The older stories, may require reformatting unfortunately.

I think that's about the size of it.

Teething troubles are to be expected.
So that we're on a level playing field with our competitors, we’ve decided to bring back the " Fantasies" category.

Every other major erotic story site has the category, and we are at a disadvantage in terms of traffic and revenue (which pays the hosting bills), not allowing it.

The site rules still apply. No forum posts, chat rooms, groups or private messages about this category subject, should be entered into. The story fantasies themselves only are going to be allowed.

Members who do not wish to see the category, can hide it in their settings: https://www.lushstories.com/membership/update-details.aspx?s=filter

We are trying to recover from backup, all the previously published stories, but it's proving a little problematic. The old "document template" associated with those stories, differs from the one we're currently using, so there's a chance that we have lost all the votes and comments associated with those.

We should know in the next day or so, if it's possible to recover the votes and comments. If not, we have the option of either publishing them all, with no votes or comments, or authors will need to resubmit them as new. Hopefully, the former is the case, as it will put our verifiers under an enormous amount of strain otherwise.

Until this has been resolved, one way or the other, the category will remain hidden.

No discussions about this decision will be entertained. Please do not create forum posts or contact any moderators or I about it.

Thank you,

Nicola

I see fantasies are in the lineup but not on Nicola’s list. Is that a glitch or a real category again?

Hugs,

Xo

I see now it must have been a mistake and was quickly taken down.

I will post separately about this, later today.

Will that break links for Favorited Stories? If someone has Favorited your story will they need to redo it?

It should redirect to the new URL. If not, it's probably an easy fix.

Please give it a go and let us know. You can message Gav directly if it's not working as it should. He doesn't read these forums.

I will think about it. If I do decide to move them there's going to be some busy Mods! LOL!

Moving them between categories, should not require them to be re-verified, since they've already been verified and published.

Does this mean, that people who have their omnium badge are going to lose it? Not that it concerns me personally (I'm not expecting to ever achieve one) but that seems a bit cruel and unfair. Wouldn't it be nicer to let them keep it and rename it to for instance "Omnium legacy" and to introduce a new omnium badge for those who wrote in all the now existing categories?

We're thinking about something along these lines, yes. Trying to work it out at the moment. It's on the to-do list.
Having reviewed all our members' suggestions for new categories, and brainstormed some of our own, we've come up with 11 new categories, which have been added to the site (sorry Omnium badge holders!).

Some are arguably sub-categories of existing ones, but we felt they are different and popular enough, to warrant their own specific category.

Authors - if you have existing stories, which would be a better fit in any of these categories, please feel free to move them over (don't submit them as new stories please as they've already been verified, and it will clog up the system):

EDIT: It has been brought to my attention, that due to the change in the text editor used in the submission area, in the last year or so, that older stories may encounter formatting issues if transferred to a new category. New stories will of course go through with no issues.

If this happens to you, please copy the story into Notepad / Text Edit (any flat file / plain text format), remove all the extra spacing / gaps, and then submit it. I've just fixed one up for someone, it took 2 minutes. The more you do your side, the quicker the stories will be published.

Femdom - Femdom or female domination sex stories, are those where a woman takes the lead. Dominant wives, girlfriends or women in positions of power, are usually the main character, with a submissive male or female, attending to their every demand. For male and female subs, femdom fiction is likely to contain story elements of both softer activities like foot worship and teasing, to more hardcore activities like light torture, pain play (nipple and genital clamps, CBT), strap-on sex (pegging), figging, smothering / suffocation, orgasm denial, fisting, anal play, spanking, toilet play and humiliation.

Horror - The seduction of horror in the literary world is as captivating now as it has ever been. Entice your audience to experience the forbidden, carnal exhilaration that a cocktail of sex and adrenaline-pumping terror can evoke. Titillate their minds and senses with consensual masochism as they willingly submit to the pleasures of fear. From the Gothic desires of sensuous vampires to the spine-tingling suspense of psychological torment, sate your readers unquenchable thirst for blood and bosoms.

Monster Sex - This is a relatively new but very popular niche in the world of adult literature. This category deals with erotic fiction featuring sexual encounters between humans and 'monsters'. Occupations - Occupation based sex stories, are those where the job of the main character or characters, is the attraction. Outdoor - Share your tales of living dangerously outside of the bedroom. Thrill us with the arousing risk of getting caught in a compromising situation, and the unadulterated excitement of adventurous outdoor sex. Steampunk - Steampunk is a sub-genre which incorporates technologies and designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. Steampunk stories are often set in an alternative past where these retro-futuristic technologies exist within a society of Victorian values. These are often accented with 'period' accessories such as timepieces, parasols, and flying / driving goggles.

They could be tales of one-night stands, dating site hook-ups, blind dates, house parties, first time swinging experiences, free for all hippie sex romps. Stories submitted to this category, should be inspired by actual real events, and are deemed to be true.

Uniform - Uniform stories are for those who get turned on by women or men dressed up in their uniform. Typically, these stories might involve people in law enforcement, firefighting, military, the medical profession, sports, but could also feature the likes of sexy maids, hot waitresses, cute cheerleaders and feisty flight attendants. Share your fantasies, or true stories about uniformed lovers.

Watersports - Also referred to as pee play or golden showers, these stories feature erotic play involving urination. Activities might involve peeing in front of someone, or on them or even drinking a lover's piss. There’s nothing like the ache of a full bladder or the growing wet spot on tight pants to enhance your sexual desire. A fetish in which a heady mixture of humiliation and intimacy are often woven tightly together.

All suggested categories have been given due consideration. Please do not suggest the same ones again.

Hopefully these will get the creative juices flowing!

Cheers,

Nicola
