This entire thread is hilarious! I mean .... this is an adult site, right?

We need to worry about people talking shit, questioning your (or your) opinion, complaining about some "troll" talking smack about you? You can't defend yourself?? You want people banned/suspended or some other dreary thing, like .... "blocking their comments" in a site that VALUES FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION??

seriously????

I think some people need to grow up, and mature into the adult the years say you are .... develope coping skills to protect their fragile egos. Apparently, some take issue with others questioning their opinion or whatever the thread is about.

Blocking comments in a forum cuz you don't like some or you "THINK" they are a troll because they question you??

Some people need to grow up.

Some people need to learn to ignore "bait".

Some people need to read someone elses' opinion/thoughts and stop being so fucking judgmental. Just be fucking thankful and grateful for this site to be functioning and caring about YOU, their member!!

fuck this .... now, you all can block me .... grow up.

Van

PS .... thanks Nicola. xoxo

Amen Sister!
Excellent addition Gav.

It should hopefully cut down on all the childish drama and ridiculous "he said, she said" messages I / we get on a daily basis (and for the most part, ignore - this is an adult swim site, not kindergarten).

Please keep reporting any issues you find with it. It's obviously preferable that someone doesn't find out you have them blocked, if discretion is the order of the day, for example.
I'm just back from a week in Estepona, Southern Spain, visiting old friends.

Did anyone miss me?

The town is beautiful. We took a trip down to Tarifa too overnight, which was spectacular. You can see Africa from there. I had no idea it was so close to Southern Spain.

We drank some delicious wines, and the food was amazing. I put on 3 kg in a week

Here are a few shots:

Hello there everyone.

We have a new competition up.

Full details are here.

Good luck to all who enter!

Hello there everyone.

We have a new competition up, specifically for LGBT stories.

Full details are here.

Good luck to all who enter!

Nicola xx

This competition focuses on the embracing of sexual diversity and gender variance.

Competition Theme

Whether your characters are exploring their awakening sexuality, or embracing their gender identity, we want to read about the dizzying sensations of self-discovery and the hot, raw thrill of their sexual experiences as a result.

Throw caution to the wind and let your imagination run wild and free!

To qualify for submission, your story must have a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (“LGBT”) theme to it.

Prizes:

Winner: $200
Second Place: $150
Third Place: $100

Full details here >>

For the latter, it was decided the non-gender related winner, would be:

"Why not say thanks and post something on *membername*’s wall?"

That's what I get paid the big bucks for.
You just can't get the staff...

Changes will be made, heads will roll!

(Thx for picking up the errors. I don't write most of the internal site messages, but the "wierd" error was my typo. OMG an 8 year old typo )
Excellent idea for a forum competition, for a very worthy cause.

This has our full support.

Good luck everyone!
This month's award goes to a relative newcomer to the moderating team, who's been quick to learn the ropes, and highly praised by many authors who've interacted with her.

It's been a good few weeks for Saucymh.

Congratulations Mags!

Gav said something is up with the Mongo database, and is looking into it.

Normal service should be resumed shortly.

Apologies.
It's going to be fixed soon so we can enjoy our stories in peace
For those of you self-published with Smashwords, you might like to add your eBooks to your profile area.

The import tool can do both Amazon and Smashwords now: https://www.lushstories.com/membership/Details/your-ebooks.aspx?s=ebooks

If you haven't published with Smashwords, I highly recommend checking them out. They offer a lot to authors:

"Smashwords is the world's largest distributor of indie ebooks, with over 370,000 titles. We distribute your book to major retailers such as Apple, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo."

Although Smashwords syndicate your work to all the major retailers, I recommend setting up an Amazon (KDP) account yourself, and publish directly with them. Then, when you publish on Smashwords, uncheck the Amazon checkbox in the settings.
I've asked Gav to fix this up as an option, as it's been a pet peeve of mine for a while. If you're mid story, and you want to be totally uninterrupted, a black box pinging up, can really throw you off.

Thanks for the recommendation Nicola. Haven't updated it for a while but I do love a sexy pic or two!

I didn't notice a lushstories.com link in the bio. Not that I'm fishing for one or anything

I really need to do more marketing on the likes of Tumblr. There are lots of sexy people on there.
We have a lot of people here using tumblr, I've seen countless profile links.

So much so, we're going to be adding a specific link URL in members' profile settings.

Here's one I recommend: http://sweetascandy79.tumblr.com/

Any mentions of lushstories.com in your tumblr posts / bio blurb, would be greatly appreciated. It's also a good way to draw potential readers to your own lush profile
I've asked Gav to comment on this.

We had a database outage a few weeks ago, that might have been the cause of the hiccups.

Are you seeing any happen in the last week or so?

I don't think it's when someone deletes their account, as that should purge all their comments and scores automatically.
This was one of the hardest challenges we've set authors to date. To write a historical piece, in the right "voice", creating a feel for the era, is an incredibly difficult thing to do.

I am delighted to say, that a fair number of authors rose to the challenge. We had some cracking entries, and the judging was close.

Congratulations to the 3 winners:

Winner ($150 Prize) - Legion, by Lupus
Second Place ($100 Prize) - Scarlet, by Saucymh
Third Place ($50) - Naziri, by Milik_the_Red

Rounding out the Top 10, are these entries:

Trust, by avrgblkgrl
Arianrhod, by BethanyFrasier
Eighteen Hours of Rain, by flytoomuch
The Hothouse Flower, by FeliciaGreene
The Hitter, by gilrenard
A Compromising Marriage, by curvygalore
Josie in Tombstone, by billybroadband

A shout out to curvygalore, for being placed with the first story she's ever submitted here. Also, to FeliciaGreene, who made it to the top table.

Thank you everyone who took the time to pen an entry.

A new competition will be announced shortly.

Cheers,

Nicola

In the 'COMMENTS' section under our stories I'd like if the REPLIES could be IN SEQUENCE...

(Currently they kind of go from the BOTTOM UP and you miss THE FLOW of a DIALOGUE response...)

Gavin: "Like ANYONE gives a shit what YOU think..."

That should be an easy fix, I'll let Gav know.
Some people light up rooms. KatieElizabeth is one such person.

I wish you a fantastically wondeful birthday KE

That's not the case for me. I'll need to check if it's Admin related.

I think we need a "Do Not Disturb" Button.. even though you are invisible and away ppl can still BB you. Is there and away of having a "Do Not Disturb" Button?

I'd like this too. When you really have things to do and can't chat, don't want any distractions whatsoever, it would be useful. I'm sure all the black boxes etc, could be stored up until you turn the setting off (mind you what happens if you leave it off for a few weeks and suddenly the floodgates open? ).

I'd like to be able to vote on "series" from authors.

You can vote them all as you go, and edit any scores you've made, at a later date. I don't see a need to do a block series vote with the setup we have.

I know that and thats why when we meet I keep my wallet in my panties since I know its safe there.

I'm here to observe the sexual tension between members.
There seems to be some confusion about the terms, "Real Person Fiction", "Fan Fiction", and what we accept for publication on the site.

Real person fiction (RPF) is a genre of writing similar to fan fiction, but featuring celebrities or other real people.

Fan fiction or fanfiction (also abbreviated to fan fic, fanfic or fic) is fiction about characters or settings from an original work of fiction, created by fans of that work rather than by its creator.

Real Person Fiction

"The morality of Real Person Fiction is debated. Most RPF authors state that they have no intent to claim these fictional portrayals reflect the real activities of the 'source figure' in any way.

Some authors of traditional fan fiction view real person fiction with suspicion, disdain, or outright disgust. Some feel that fanfic based on fictional characters is on shaky enough legal ground, barely tolerated by the authors, producers, copyright owners of the original works and that RPF, especially real person slash, may turn corporate and public opinion against fan fiction as a whole.

The often included disclaimer in story headers, stating that the work is pure fiction, has so far protected Real Person Fiction from slander and libel. To date, unlike traditional fan fiction, only one cease and desist letter is known to have been issued against RPF."

This last part shows the lack of knowledge on the subject, and is in fact, false:

"Scarlett Johansson won a defamation suit against a French writer for creating a promiscuous character who happened to look like the movie star. A Georgia jury awarded $100,000 to a woman who claimed a character in The Red Hat Club falsely portrayed her as an 'alcoholic s**t.'"

(Source and useful link: http://helensedwick.com/how-to-use-real-people-in-your-writing/)

With that in mind, and to help protect our authors, our policy on lushstories.com is to allow Real Person Fiction, provided the person has been dead 100+ years. Anything which is totally tasteless, denigrates religious iconic figures etc, would be unacceptable.

Fan Fiction

Everybody involved in fan fiction seems to be convinced that that the two rules for staying out of trouble are publishing a disclaimer and not charging for your work. This couldn’t be farther from the truth. No author is required to allow others to publish stories set in the fictional world they created, or use characters they created.

There is no exception in copyright law for fan fiction, disclaimer or not. No exception for kids. No exception for writers who don’t get paid. The fan fiction phenomena exists because the rights holders allow it to exist, and any rights holder can change his or her mind at any time and force the removal of infringing content.

It’s not a bad idea to publish a disclaimer that says that you have no intention of committing copyright infringement. Such a disclaimer might help to mitigate any damages — especially if you’re a minor under 15 who might reasonably be expected not to know the law. But a disclaimer offers zero protection from a DMCA takedown notice or lawsuit.

Due to the legal minefield involved with the publication of Fan Fiction, we do not publish it here.
Unfortunately something like intuitive keyword matching isn't going to work:

"Samantha sucked the juicy grapes into her mouth seductively, one by one, while her Chihuahua watched on. Her therapist looked on eagerly."

When someone joins, they are meant to have read our site terms, which clearly advise what is or what isn't allowed:

Story submissions

"I agree not to post stories which feature underage people / minors. I also agree not to submit stories which include content pertaining to , abusive situations, , graphic violence, totally unwilling participants, drugging, dangerous sexual acts, snuff, or sex with animals ( )."

We could put that warning on the submit story page, however that would be rather clumsy.

The vast majority of people who submit stories here, are aware of the type of stories we publish, and what we do and don't allow.

You'd have to have either not read our terms, be rather insensitive, or deliberately be doing it, to break our prohibited content rules.

As to the 60% comment, that figure doesn't represent the % of offerings which get published here. It's roughly the right figure in terms of those stories which get rejected on first read through. The vast majority of authors will take note of the comments from our verifiers / editors, and make changes accordingly. Most of those corrected drafts get published. I'd guess only 5% don't make it, where the content is absolutely not for this site, or the author gives up / some other reason.
Thank you Ravenstar and Nymphwriter for responding.

At the moment, a turnaround time of 3 days is typical. There are currently 50 stories in the queue, and that's usually the case most days now.

@ TantricDrummer. We implemented that a few years ago. There were 2 reasons I removed it:

1) The system became abused in a very short space of time. People were dumping half-finished work on the the volunteer editors, expecting them to clear them up.

2) Some authors submitted work which broke our site rules - / snuff stories / beastiality etc. Those are banning offences, and volunteers shouldn't have to deal with that kind of thing.

So, we don't differentiate between volunteer editors and verifiers. We have one team who in effect, perform both roles. They will typically do a light edit on pieces which need it. Stories which have an abundance of problems, get sent back to the author.

Gold members have their stories put to the very top of the verification queue, and are given more editing time by our verifiers / editors. Depending on the time of day, and any issues which may arise with a story, the turnaround time is usually less than 12 hours.
A huge happy birthday hug, to one of our most loved, hard-working, and talented writers on the site.

Oh, and she occasionally does a bit behind the scenes (actually, a great deal more than most)

Happy Birthday Rach!

Love ya!

Nic xx
