The database update is still going on. Until Gav updates us that it's been completed, then unfortunately, it means there's a code freeze.
Thank you for all the lovely birthday wishes.

I have a friend (from Singapore) staying with me at the moment, visiting the UK on business (and a little pleasure), so we're enjoying catching up. If I don't get a chance to thank people who have messaged me, individually, you know why. Normal service shall resume next week!

I'm really touched (get your minds out of the gutter!).

So, more people that can sit in Wembley Stadium, have viewed your stories on this little old site? I'm proud!

It may be better to send Nicola a pm with your request smile

Callisto can do these now too

I wish there was more buzz about this, really.

Groan.

Why do bees hum? Because they don't know the words...

(bump)
Ok, I'll try and explain.

If I put the closing date as the 12th (midnight), it publishes the 12th as the closing date on the competition page, automatically. That's all good.

The trouble is, it somehow has to be linked to the server time of the site. For some irritating reason, every competition it closes off a day early. It is still the 12th.

So I have to manually open the competition again, and set the 13th as the deadline. The 12th remains the closing date, but it will show the 13th automatically as the finishing date, on the competition page - which is wrong. Confused yet?

Gav will fix this once and for all, with any luck, after the mongo server is upgraded.

Nobody should really be submitting a story on the last day of any competition. If they do, they run the risk of not qualifying as each entry needs at least 10 votes.
My mother keeps bees, and sent me the link to the following video.

"Bees are dying in masses. Which at first seems not very important until you realize that one third of all food humans consume would disappear with them."

The UK Govt banned the use of certain chemicals which were being sprayed on crops, but lobbyists are trying to bring back their usage. This is an absolutely absurd case of profiteering. They should NEVER be allowed to spray things on crops, which has such a damaging effect on our ecosystem.

Anyway, for those who are interested in the overall health of our planet, you might find this short video intriguing:

Ah, when I click that link now from the forum, it doesn't show the friend page. I have to click the "Friends" link. I see what you mean.

These could be side-effects of Gav updating the mongo database server. All should be well within the next week.

Can you report bugs directly to him that you find please, this thread is about membership questions, not site glitches.

Thank you!

I've gifted you a Bronze Membership for your help.
100th Birthday? You must be our oldest member!

Happy Birthday!

Are viewing "friends" page from our profile settings now also a members only feature? I tried to do that, and it went to the "premium members only" page.

I'm sorry, I don't understand the question. Can you provide a link by way of example, so we can see what you mean please? Do you mean the friend activity page: https://www.lushstories.com/asian2013/activity? Or this page https://www.lushstories.com/membership/update-details.aspx?s=friends? Or something else?
Any late stragglers, I urge you to get your entries in, in the next day or so, otherwise they are unlikely to meet the minimum # votes criteria.

Nicola, in theory you're correct. Ideally make sure the story is complete and accurate when it's submitted. And I fully understand that it could cause confusion if changes are made before it's sent to a moderator or even during the moderator's actual verification. My reality though (I don't know about others) is that no matter how many times I proofread or send to an editor, it always seems that there's something that can be added to make the story much better. I'm hesitant to submit those edits after it's verified and on the site as it creates additional work for your moderator (whose work and suggestions I sincerely appreciate!). I'd hoped that before the moderator actually begins their verification process it could be automatically replaced with an updated version if the author submitted the edit before the verifier started his/her process. If that's not practical, I'm perfectly OK with it.

There's really no need to worry about making edits after the story is published.

Although we would much prefer stories to be polished prior to submission, we understand that inevitably, some will need editing / altering in some way.

This is why when edits happen, the story goes back into the queue, and the changes are highlighted for our team of moderators to quickly scan. Therefore, a story with a few edits only, takes about 20 seconds to verify. We do not need to check the whole piece again.

I hope that helps explain the setup for you better.

It would be very helpful if the new story submissions was set up so that a story could be edited prior to verification, rather than needing to delete and resubmit

You should thoroughly proof your story before you submit it. Only when you are totally happy, should you press the submit button. It then gets added to the queue. If we allowed constant edits while it's in the queue, how can we verify it? Stories have to be locked after they are submitted, so that there are no changes made to them before they are approved.

There's never any need to delete a story and resubmit it. If it's been rejected by a moderator, you simply edit it, and make the changes requested.

Or have I misinterpreted what you mean?

Hey Nicola - just wanted to mention that the chat boxes dont seem to be working. commodoreben (who's a subscriber) sent me a chat request, and it led to a message that says it is only available for premium members.

On a separate note, are "online messages" (IMs?) now only applicable if the user is on our friend list?

Lush mail (PMs) work though.

Thanks!

I've asked Gav to take a look. Thanks for letting me know.
Your galleries should all remain in tact. You just won't be able to add any images.

This is being discussed currently.

I'll let you know if we decide something different.

Very Well Done...

(209 stories??? I didn't do that many in three years!)

xx SF

That's why you were (eventually) fired.
Congratulations Chicamala!

I'll be in touch about your prize via PM.

The exact unique visitor figures for our Top 3 Attention Whores' profiles in June were:

chicamala 6,536
mysteria27 4,394
naughtyannie 4,198

Well done all those who made the effort!

The next Attention Whore competition will require a bit more effort. Stay tuned.

EDIT: Chicamala has very generously decided to gift her prize to friends, in the form of Premium Memberships. A very kind gesture.
For her ever friendly and helpful attitude, as well as story queue killing to the tune of a whopping 209 stories in June, I am delighted to announce that KatieElizabeth is our Moderator of the Month for June.

Congratulations Katie! I hope you have fun spending your prize money in the Amazon store (you know they have a toy section, it's not all books )

Please take July off, you deserve it!
Despite Gilrenard's excellent effort at the 11th hour, and Liz's wonderful photoshop work, it is with great delight that I announce SereneProdigy's video to be the winning entry to this competition.

Excellent job SP, you absolutely nailed the brief and surpassed my expectations.

A big thank you to all the entrants. That was fun.
Good work Gilrenard!

This competition will close off at midnight tonight, and the winner announced in the next day or so.
I'll close this thread off now. The server will still keep tracking visits to your profile pages, right up until 11:59.59 U.S. time.
