Don't be mad because just one of my ribbon worthy stories has more views and votes than all of your stories combined.

Ouch!

Do I need to bang your heads together again, or are you two going to play nicely?

AAAAAGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

You mean you don't want our profiles to turn into this?

We've toyed with the "Ignore Member" feature idea, I've seen it used very successfully on other sites.

It's very involved here though, because of all the different ways people can interact. You'd need to change the forum code so their posts would be hidden completely from view. All their comments on stories, profiles etc would need to be hidden. Their entire profile hidden. The chat rooms block member feature would be useful to combine in. Instant / private messaging has some of what's required to block people already I think.

Rather complicated.

You could just try to get along instead? Or come to a truce, where you both promise to totally ignore each other?

I just did this to mine & I love it. I did change my profile background image though... but wow! what an amazing change!!! It looks amazing!! Big time thank you to Gav & Nic!!!

Looking good!

It definitely needs a dark background to make the CSS work.
Excellent work Liz.

They were the replacement to the "army" version we got rid of last time, I believe.

Expect the weeds to grow back, these thieves have no morals or conscience.

Back to watermelons, why do they advertise them as "seedless", when they aren't? They still have (white) seeds in them which are easier to eat, that doesn't make them seedless.
You need 20+ posts to submit links here.

If you send a message to our support team, they will be able to post the links for you. Or alternatively, head to the word games forum, and go for your life.

Did you mean the 30th and the 8th? That's what's on the contest page.

I guess I must have been looking at the date cross-eyed when I checked it and saw a 2 instead of a 3.

Probably the timezone I'm in. It should read the 31st and 9th for all.
Quote by RejectReality
Was the deadline extended? I could have sworn it was the 20th.

If I'd known I had more time, I would have waited for my editor to get back from a couple of days away and saved a verifier from having to kick the story back to me for a really dumb mistake I overlooked.

Important Dates

The closing date for this competition is 31 Aug 2014. Winners will be announced on the 09 Sep 2014.

If you have any questions regarding this contest or rules, please contact us.

Thanks to all those that participate, have fun!

The site has been a bit quirky today and now I can't get the Forum Signature to image. Any ideas?

It's always best to use the Help >> Contact Us >> "Problem with the web site" rather than post in these forums, the messages go straight to Gav's inbox.
Happy birthday Nat.

Apologies for being slack, I forget everyone's, even my own these days. I blame aldocrugs.... and Steph.

Insufficient User Intelligence.

It's like a girl scout who had her dad, who is a boss, take all her cookies to his office and force his employees to buy them all versus the girl scout who went door to door dragging her cookies in a cart to try and sell them all. So the door to door girl scout didn't sell as many as the girl scout with the boss daddy... Does that really make the girl scout with the boss daddy a better girl scout? I don't think so.

I STILL have some of those unsold cookies

Nice analogy and post.
This is horrible news.

He was a fantastic actor and comedian.

What a terrible shame. Another troubled genius leaves us far too early.

R.I.P.

Good pick Poppet, the whole scene deserves a play:

or whether they like or dislike the author... or how that particular author has voted on their own story... or whether the author has offended them in a chat session... or whether the author has made a forum post they disagree with... or, or, etc.

There will always be factors at play, outside of the quality of the story. No system can counteract those. It's like trying to tell people to turn off human nature.

I think if you check with your *cough* other favourite story sites, they do the same as us.

The scoring has been talked to death, it's not going to be changed now.
I'd rather we did away with the "Top Author" lists entirely, including from the front of the site.

Those lists could, *in theory*, be easily manipulated if you have enough unscrupulous friends. Or even in the case that Trace points out, can easily be altered by a few low votes. No mathematical modelling / programming is going to solve that.

The Most Popular / Most Viewed and Suggested give a better indication. The latter, especially.

We had a like / dislike system when we started the site. The overwhelming consensus when we put it to the vote, was that a numerical system would give a lot more flexibility. Members were also given the choice of range, and 1-5 was preferred.
Great Friday afternoon mellow tune.

What was the problem, IUI again?

On a side note: The only poaching I enjoy is with eggs on an english muffin with some shaved ham or maybe a few shrimp, hollandaise sauce .... enjoyed with either some good strong coffee or a killer Caesar.

Cheers

Yum!

I hope you recover soon. If it's any consolation, I am in bed with the flu. Very sick, burning up. Probably best I'm offline today...
ALWAYS go the legal route. Don't take it upon yourselves to do anything crazy.

For one thing, the Whois information is invariably made up.

Also, posting someone's picture probably isn't cool. It may be someone framing her (a long stretch I know!).

You can get into a never ending battle of frustration when you start fighting these fly-by-night bulk copying operations. Most of the time the person running the site is unresponsive, because they know damn good and well they're stealing the content. The people hosting the place are typically unresponsive because they're usually in a country where nothing much can be done to them, and they're getting paid. The registrars don't care because they're only responsible for the domain name.

Even if you do get them taken down, they'll probably be back tomorrow at a different URL run by the same jackass.

You have to learn to accept that once you post something for free on the internet, you've more or less given away your right to control it. There's little to nothing you can do to stop people from copying it and putting it wherever they please.

I'm not saying you shouldn't be pissed off, or that the catharsis of trying to whack a mole or two and having some success isn't worth it, but keep the reality in the back of your mind so it doesn't become an obsession.

Very well said.

I honestly thought with one of Lush's roll-outs where you couldn't copy a story, that we were not going to be hit by vultures.

As has been explained on countless occasions, if YOU can read a web page, it can be scraped programmatically.

Gav could write a program to extract the HTML of any website in 5 minutes, no matter what measures have been put in place.

Even if we made lush a pay site, someone could join up for a month, and use that login for their program to gain entry.

Name me ONE web site where you can't view their HTML, please, humour me.

Oh, and, I just looked up at your profile picture. I actually did Laugh Out Loud and probably woke my wife. Your 'orgasmatron' looks just like the toy in one of my stories! LOL..., again!

You seriously need to check out "Barbarella", the movie. Thank me later!
Excellent idea. It is in the process of being worked on.

ETA, unsure!
This is an announcement thread.

It is not intended to be open for discussion of individual cases / sites etc.

If you have any factual information relating to legal methods, international bodies or other techniques which can be used to deal with plagiarists, please send me a PM.
You are correct. Outside of the US, DMCA's are likely to be largely ignored.

There are however some international bodies / agreements in place, which may help (although when dealing with content thieves, are unlikely to).

That is why you may have better luck contacting Google directly instead, to get their site pulled from their listings and blacklisted. No traffic = pointless web site.
