If it has been killed it'll just get reincarnated in the sequel Horror Genre II: Back from the Dead
The story doesn't need sex to be erotic but what will you use as the hook to make the readers come back? Investment in the characters? Unresolved sexual tension? Good luck with that, it's a worthy goal but it's a tough ask. Readers have a lot a choice and they have favourite authors, they also only have limited time. Why should they bother committing to a long drawn out series by you?
Maybe start with some short, self-contained stories to develop interest in your writing.
Yes, it's stupid and ridiculous - "people in the fashion industry in girl not looking boyish enough shock"
Yes, she is stunningly beautiful but in the model industry beautiful isn't that rare a commodity. If you have to choose between a dozen models for a cover or a photoshoot you will be amazed at what you will use as criteria for rejecting the unlucky eleven.
"Welcome to Lush, pvt?"
Even better are the ones who get their nose put out of joint when they're the fourth person to ask a female entering the room "Hi, how r u" and don't get their own personal "fine thanks, how are you?"
Just how closed and guarded is he? How does he respond to change? Are his emotional responses to other things in his life what you would consider "normal"?
Video game addiction that transfers into closing-off behaviour like this has been linked to Asperger's but it's more likely to be that he's suffering from depression. What is certain is that what he's doing isn't healthy for him or for you. Can you remove yourself from there for a few days? Stay with family or friends? He needs help, unfortunately, so do you.
Like you, I read One Flew Over The Cuckoo's nest a long time after seeing the film. I enjoy them both on their own merits. I read Catch 22 straight after and decided I needed to stop reading books about people going insane. I'd seen the film version of Catch 22 before reading the book and while the film is a brave attempt at getting Heller's book right, it's impossible to get it all on there. (Catch 22 is my favourite book)
I think it's much different when you come at a book after you've seen the film - you're always going to have to readjust to the difference in how you imagined it. If you've seen the film before you read the book I find there are always reference points for your imagination to fall back on. I've not read any Jack Reacher books, but I know people who have really struggled with the idea of Tom Cruise in the lead role.
Your sweeping generalisations aside, there's a very good reason why there are differences in sex drives - pregnancy. For women the drive to have sex with the right partner is there as much as it is in men but their bodies will be more selective about who they have sex with and when because they're going to be the ones carrying a baby around for nine months. Despite the availability of birth control it's very difficult to over-ride millennia of hard-wiring.
Also, the chemicals produced during sex are different for men and women. For men it's dopamine - that natural high that we continually want more of. Dopamine is released for women too but they also getting higher concentrations of oxytocin as their orgasmic reward - this is the drug that make us want to bond - it also gets released when you cuddle. Men don't get dopamine from a cuddle.
Manicuring? Are you using nail-clippers?
How about bringing a blindfold into it, or binding her wrists. It could be a sign that she wants you to take a more controlling role in sex. Try being a bit more "energetic", introduce a bit of mild hair tugging, pin her hands down when you fuck her, that sort of thing. She'll soon let you know if that's not the direction she wants you to take (though I doubt she will).
As has been mentioned above, it's what happens when actually sex is informed by porn. Of course some girls do find it sexy but I think that's more down to the fact that they like men ejaculating anywhere
There's also the dom/sub issue involved too - in my experience, women who enjoy this generally enjoy taking a submissive role in sex.
A couple of evenings a month I get together with a group of my friends and we play a game of 5-a-side football - does that make me a footballer? I could come with arguments as why I could be and also why I'm definitely not but there's no clear distinction as what would be the right thing to call me.
EL James wrote something that millions of people identified with enough that they paid good money to read it. Whether that makes her a "good" writer is entirely in the eye of the beholder. Popular culture doesn't insist that you have to be good - just entertaining enough to keep the money coming in. There's no easier way to become successful than by making money for other people.
Publishing has never been as easy as it is now and it's changing every day, as are the definitions of "author" or "writer". We live in interesting times.
Online friendships can appear every bit as real as traditional friendships but they're often a lot more fragile.
The main difference is that we only see part of the picture and the rest we fill in ourselves - that's why online friends can surprise us (in good ways and bad). Of course with real-life friends they don't usually just disappear off the face of the earth - online friendships often end that way.
I value my online friendships but I know that their basis is far more amorphous and insubstantial than the solid friendships I make in real life. That said of course, amorphous and insubstantial could be exactly what someone is looking for.
Small breasts have exactly the same number of nerve endings as big breasts. The theory goes that these nerve endings are packed into a much tighter area and are therefore the breasts are more sensitive to touch. If that's true small breasted women could be having a lot more fun.
The same is also said about the number of nerve endings in a penis being the same as in a clitoris.
Lots of beasties live in flour - weevils, mites, moths - it probably got into the food that way.
Finding one in your food isn't necessarily a measure of bad food hygiene on the restaurant's part - it could have been in a packet of flour opened that day. I'd put it down to bad luck on everyone's part.
I'd draw their attention to it, but continue the meal.
Not sure if it's true or not, but I have heard that use by dates on flour are there just so the beasties don't get big enough to be easily noticeable.
So well observed that it's probably closer to the truth than satire.
Jim Broadbent is a superb but sadly underused British actor - I guess he's probably best known for playing Denis Thatcher in The Iron Lady or Bridget Jones' Dad
Be sure to click on the suggested link for "Nuts in May". It's a brilliant Mike Leigh play (he directed the video above), and if you can find it "Abigail's Party" is a must see too.
Just to set the OP's mind at rest, 96.75% of people here have never submitted a story - luckily "writers" are very much a minority on this site, you can certainly avoid them with minimal effort.
Don't worry, they're aren't wasting their time in the forum either: only a mere 0.2% of users have made 500 posts.
Hopefully you won't run into any of them.
Good luck!
I read things on here where I make snap judgements about people, and what turns them on, or what they are like. But I try my hardest to try and understand why they think like that. None of us are perfect, but is it my own downfall that I try to see where others are coming from?
There's nothing wrong with trying to understand someone but no matter how well you think you know what's going on in their head, their actions and reactions can always change with differing circumstances.
How people feel and how they respond to things changes with how they feel in themselves all the guys you mentioned were at a seriously low ebb in their self-esteem. Correct me if I'm wrong as well but I'm guessing they are all introvert types as well. Is this the type of person you're attracted to?
The more you listen and talk with them and the longer time passes by the more their self-esteem is repaired. Unfortunately, "fixing" someone doesn't always mean they become a better person. It also seems that while you've been helping them through a process you haven't been getting the same back. Any relationship needs to build self-esteem on both sides - without that you're in trouble.
You're more than aware that the common denominator, as painful as is it to say: is you. Yes they were all complete arseholes, but you picked them - you "understood" them, no one was better placed to see what they would do than you. That in no way means that you're doomed to make the same relationship mistakes forever - it just means that you become more aware of them.
You could try to pretend to be someone you're not - but what enjoyment would get from life? By all means try to understand someone but don't make it a deal breaker - let them have their mysteries, sometimes the best people are the ones you can't predict. Opening up your psyche should be as important as opening up your thighs - don't just do it for anyone.
You're an angler, Daisy. You'll only know the bait when you know what you want to catch.
