About

ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING,  COMES BACK OCCASIONALLY,  LEAVE A MESSAGE IF YOU'D LIKE. I WILL ANSWER (EVENTUALLY).

A little bit about me.....  OK, maybe a bit more than a little bit....

I am a sixty sixteen year old anal retentive, obsessive compulsive, manic depressive, paranoid schizophrenic (the best kind, really), neurotic psychotic, narcissistic, hedonistic, irreverent, straight, contrarian male with a type 'A' personality and delusions of grandeur in some of my multiple personalities. But, hey, really, except for the age, gender, and personality type, who isn’t…….

I have been told that once you get past all that and take the time to get to know me, you will find a nice guy with a dry, warped, sometimes dark, quirky sense of humor.  I’ve also been told that I am not easy to get to know, but it’s worth the effort. Sort of an acquired taste (like Scotch or Moxie).  I am a quiet person (some say reserved, some have gone as far as to say introverted); most of the time I just don't have anything to say (it is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt??).  I believe that sex is overrated (and he's here, on Lush?) and intimacy is undervalued.  I appreciate the finer things in life, a beautiful sunrise or sunset, a walk in the woods in autumn, good craftsmanship, fine wine, good music, an honest friendship with a good woman (that last one seems hard to come by).  My tastes are simple; only the best.  I came to this site mostly out of curiosity and maybe make some friends.  If you think  I am someone you might be interested in or would like to get to know...don't be shy, just say  HI.

I have my opinions, but I do try to be tactful. I suffer fools and incompetents poorly. I am not a politically correct person. If you try to engage me in that manner, there is a good chance that you will be offended.

I like firearms, but you don’t have to. If you don’t preach to me about how guns are bad, I won’t tell you why you are wrong.  I believe that there are no dangerous weapons; there are only dangerous people.  I don’t care to be referred to as a gun nut; I prefer the term firearms enthusiast.

Make me your friend, and you will never have a better friend. Break my trust, and you will never have a worse enemy. And for all you politically correct paranoids out there, there is absolutely no connection between this and the previous paragraph….

When on Lush, I usually stay in some dark corner of the lounge and observe quietly, unless I have something to add to the conversation (which most of the time is never). I love mankind, but I like my humanity in small intimate doses.

I have some thoughts or beliefs that help to remind me not to take life too seriously. After all, no one here gets out alive……

*   You can't fix stupid.

*   Thick cut of filet mignon.  If you’re not going to grill it medium rare, why even bother.

*   .45 ACP.  Shooting anything smaller is just silly.

*   Life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer you get to the end, the faster it goes.

*   Some people are like Slinkies. Even though they are not much good for anything, they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of   stairs.

*   Hard work never killed anyone, but why take the chance.

*   There are two kinds of people in this world; those who can extrapolate from incomplete data.

*   I have come to the conclusion that my subjective account of my own motivation is largely mythical on almost all occasions.  I don't know why I do things.........

*   Reality is an illusion created by an alcohol deficiency.

*   Some days are diamonds; some days are stones.  .....

*   God created men to test the souls of women.

*   The secret to life:  faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money.....

*   Perhaps a lunatic is simply a minority of one.

*   Yield to temptation.....  It may not pass your way again.

Some serious thoughts:

*   The irony of the Information Age is that it gives new respectability to the uninformed opinion.

*   We are entering a world in which the old rules no longer apply.

*   An armed society is a polite society.  Manners are good when one may have to back up his actions with his life.

*   Never judge a book by its movie.

*    In a time of universal deceit, the telling of the truth is a revolutionary act.  (long live the revolution?)

*   Taxes are not levied for the benefit of the taxed.

*   Ignorance is curable; stupid is forever.

*   Political language is designed to make lies and partial truths sound truthful, and to give the appearance of solidity to pure wind.

*   There's always a sunrise somewhere.

*   You can sway one thousand men by appealing to their prejudices quicker than you can convince one man by logic.

*   Internationalism is no substitute for individualism.

*   We need to make Orwell fiction again.....

*   I have noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born.

*   Government is not the solution to our problems.  Government IS the problem.

*   Politics is the choice between the lesser of two evils.

*   I saw a movie where only the police and military had firearms.  It was called "Schindler's List"

  • Some words of wisdom... if two men in trench coats appear at your door, it's the FBI. If one man in a trench coat appears at your door, it's the IRS. Either way, you probably shouldn't open the door..

I am a voracious reader.  I will read anything that I think might be interesting, fact or fiction, or anything that holds my interest. I like light histories of the Vietnam War (or any war), some other historical stuff, books that tell backstories of events, movies, etc., some biographies...

Some authors that I like:  Stephen King,  Isaac Asimov,  Ray Bradbury,  Arthur C Clarke,  Dan Brown,  Robin Cook,  Michael Crichton (who also wrote as John Lange),  Robert A Heinlein,  Phillip K Dick,  Stephen Hunter,  Joe Hill,  Dennis Lehane,  George Carlin,  Bill Nye (yes, The Science Guy).....

Some books that I like: (Some written by the above authors and authors other than the above):  Matterhorn,  Paul Revere's Ride,  Flowers For Algernon, The Silmarillion,  The Hobbit,  The Lord of The Rings, The Princess Bride,  As You Wish,  Animal Farm,  1984 (Orwell just got the year wrong),  Fahrenheit 451, Catch-22,   2001 A Space Odyssey (all four books of Arthur C Clarke's trilogy),  Dean Koontz's Frankenstein series (five books, but if you stop after three, it's a good ending; in my opinion, the fourth and fifth were just beating a dead horse),  One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest,  The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy,  The Gunning Of America (not exactly what you think it would be about),  Countdown To Zero Day.....

Some movies that I like: Tootsie,  The Princess Bride,  A Fish Called Wanda,  Christine,  The Storm Of The Century,  AI-Artificial Intelligence,  2001 A Space Odyssey,  Catch-22,  The Hunt For Red October,  The Green Mile,  The Shawshank Redemption,  One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest,  The Imitation Game,  Ex Machina,  Blazing Saddles,  Young Frankenstein,  Three Days Of The Condor,  Same Time Next Year,  Sneakers, The Sixth Sense,  Michael,  Spy Game,   War Of The Roses, Murder By Death, The Cheap Detective....

Some TV/DVD series that I like:  Doctor Who (Tom Baker, Eccleston thru Capaldi),  Sherlock (Cumberbatch/Freeman, love the landlady),  The Detectorists, How I Met Your Mother,  the Jesse Stone series..

Music I Like:   My taste in music is all over the place.  From AC/DC to Warren Zevon, from The Amazing Rhythm Aces to The Marshall Tucker Band, from Beethoven to Vivaldi ( really like Pachelbel's Canon), nice relaxing stuff (from Enya to Yanni), and almost anything in between.  Don't care for jazz, disco (but I do like the early BeeGees), rap, soul (the Barry White/Percy Sledge type stuff).  But I do like 60's Motown, the stripped down stuff (read Funk Brothers) and Phil Spector's wall of sound.   And I do have favorites.  Just ask....

Watch this site for further development....

                                                                                    and.............
