The problem is avatars come in all shapes and sizes. In order that the friends list looks semi reasonable, we create a 100px x 100px box around each avatar and crop (from top left). For some like your own it will remove some of the detail from the original image.

Thank you for your response. Would it appear better if I resized it to 100x100? And, on FB you can drag the square over the area you would like to appear in it. :)

On my profile, my avatar is in the square perfectly. But when it is reduced on a friends list or on a following list, it is off center. Is there a way to center one's avatar or does it need to be a certain size to always appear centered?
