I read your letter,
the one you hid
beneath my pillow
when you slipped away.
I could still see the ink
beginning to dry.
I could still smell your cologne
lingering on the sheets,
along with the warmth
your body had left beside me.
I took a hot shower, remembering
our games, our caresses,
the stolen kisses, and the
secrecy that unfolds whenever
we are alone.
I stared at the blank paper,
pen in hand, pensive.
Wondering.
Thinking.
Calculating my response.
Then,
six words.
I pressed a kiss onto
the page as my signature,
folded it neatly, and placed
it beneath your pillow.
Got dressed, and left.
"Yes, I will see you again"
