When I was an innocent little girl
Monsters were easy to see
Hiding in closets and under beds
Masked in the shadows of the tree

But as people get older, they get wiser
The monsters also learn to blend in
They hide behind beautiful faces
Masking their evil spirit within

They often come to you bearing gifts
Chocolates or maybe a beautiful rose
Passionately declaring their true love
Written themselves in beautiful prose

The monsters learn to even hide
Discreetly behind the faces we adore
It was much easier when they just hid
Under beds and behind the closet door

We foolishly give them all of our love
We trust and love with all of our heart
Unknowingly giving them the ability
To crush our hearts tearing them apart

When do we finally begin to just learn
Which lovers with our heart to trust
How can we intuitively spot impostors
For our sanity it is something we must

You see fortunately the monsters
Can hide but they can't keep it up long
Sooner or later as humans we learn
That somehow the relationship is wrong

So in the fairytale don't stop believing
For all around true love is evidence
You must chance the dance with darkness
If you ever hope to find your true prince

But if in the darkness your prince is found
Love him unconditionally up to the skies
Remember he has the same fears that you
Could also be a monster in beautiful disguise
