Broken Toy

This girl from my past who stole my heart
and hid it away for so many years
I wondered at our life apart
and why I had so many fears

I've searched so long to find the key
To open a box locked and hidden
Inside she held the love of me
Thinking it was so wrong and forbidden

Through the years I didn't exist
I ached and hurt for what should have been
Her memory I could never resist
Darkness has filled my life since then

In my dreams I hear her voice
Saying reach and I’ll be there
My arms extend, I have no choice
And I keep searching everywhere

In this dream she found this boy
Her body warm surrounds him
I was hobbled and bent like a broken toy
Too many years late she might have been

As I awake my eyes meet hers
She had found me in her dream
I leaned close to gently whisper
Two bodies tangled in a lover’s scene

The key was there all this time
It was the box we seemed to miss
Together we held it our bodies entwined
And opened it with our desperate kiss
