The thunder finally moves,
Rolling into the distance,
Heat lightning
Flashing in the sky
Hymns of insects fill the void,
Followed by layers of birdsong
And a world that breaks and bends the light
A voice vibrates through,
Captures honey from sunrise,
Blends with the bruise of night
Rhythmic and soft,
Filling between dust motes
And mountains
Flooding my body like a scent
Bent, broken words
Fall from my lips,
Drift into your palms,
Settle into the grooves
Of your skin
You take my hands,
Your touch featherlight,
And the air between us
Begins to take shape
Plumes of breath
Paint color on my skin,
Gloss in my hair,
Bones at the base of my neck,
Strength in my spine
The stars waver,
Drunkenly moored
To our touch,
And night delivers
The shine of your eyes
Your body
Like a wisp of reflection
In a darkened window.
But I feel your blood in my skin,
Mine pumping in yours
The peace of knowing
The timelessness
The purity
The vitality
Of being bathed in life
