What a strange phenomenon it is,
To see your whole future before you,
Fully formed in every detail,
Ready for you to reach out and grasp.

You can see the one that you will love,
That you will go on to marry,
The lives you live,
And the offspring that you will have.

Watching yourselves walking by a river,
Going along hand in hand being cute,
Watching your children run ahead,
You are as cute at ninety as you were at twenty-five.

Seeing all the things you will achieve,
Together as a unit and alone as an individual,
Seeing your highs and lows and knowing you will survive them,
Is beautiful to watch.

The difficult part however,
Is knowing that you don't want that,
Well, you do,
Just not with me.

Alas, I hold out hope,
That one day your heart will change,
And maybe you will want it with me.
