If only I knew back then, what I do now
When I look back upon that day
All those many a year ago
And think of what might have been
When I laid my eyes upon her beauty
On that day in the college canteen.

I wondered if she’s an angel from above
My heart began to beat faster
With the beauty, that’s before me
When I looked at her from afar
When she played pool with her friends
But could she be the one for me?

I looked up, her beautiful feminine figure
Into her beautiful blue eyes
The gateway to her soul
That’s protected with her lashes 
In an instant, I realised she’s the one
And I hoped she felt the same way.

Despite all these many years later
I still think about her and have her in my heart
When I realised I let go the one I loved
And what life could have been
Could I have been there when she needed me
And be her shoulder, her muse, her forever.

But now I know I shouldn’t have held on
To those false pretences for so long
And moved on with my life sooner
Now I hope that I haven’t left it too late
To meet that special someone.
