Last night I lost a dear friend in my life
A friend so close like a husband to a wife
Her thoughts and words so softly spoken
That tender heart I have now broken
Telling her often, days upon end
She is beautiful and sexy, my special friend
A promise to her that I did make
A friend like her I would not forsake
We chatted daily for hours on end
Growing together, this lady, my friend
Building a bond that grew ever stronger
Time we shared became longer and longer
A diamond has faucets, an onion it's layers
To protect her heart from those who would betray
Thus my goal, to protect and to serve
Until she found love I promised to stay
For in her life there was a broken vow
I pledged to be different. Someway. Somehow.
Her painful past, she would not share
I opened my heart because I do care
I stood by her side as she grew bolder and stronger
My time drew near, it wouldn't be much longer
We both knew that it was God's master plan
Preparing her heart for one lucky man
Then late one night she attempted to share
A personal problem for me to dwell
I hurt her deeply, this lady I know
For causing her pain, now I must go
How deep are my feelings, this you may ask
I'd live or die for you. In a heartbeat. A flash
Feelings like this, to me are new
To walk away now, is to never hurt you
I write this poem with tear filled eyes
Believe me girl, I really did try
Never to hold you, that much is true
Forgive me baby, but I'll always love you
I knew there would come a day
Her heart would find a man
One who could love her forever
More deeply than I ever can
I know him not, nor seen his face
But into her life he will walk with such grace
To him I must trust with her heart and her life
Bring love and joy to her... my best friend... your wife
A friend so close like a husband to a wife
